I'm from Finland and, therefore, have heard a lot of Finnish bands. One thing a lot of Finnish bands (who sing in English) have in common is that they have a finnish accent when speaking English (some have a stronger one than others). If it's really strong it can sound kinda stupid (in my oppinion). Well, this isn't the case with POTF. I swear the first time I heard Late Goodbye I had no idea that they where Finnish! I thought they were Americans! Then, when I found out that they are Finnish I was so happy! I really think that POTF will succeed overseas and they are a band all Finns can be proud of!

Same here! It just added to the appeal when I found out they weren't another American band.

Actually, Mark's english is really superb. I think that's the reason why people think they are Americans ;)

Yeah, it's ridicilous. Why should everyone sound the same anyways. The music's the focal point, at least to me. And I love the way how many of the french pronounce english. I accentuate personality.

This is probably easier to understand if you are Finnish. The English pronounciation has traditionally been very difficult for Finnish bands (and all other Finns too :) ), and this is probably one of the reasons why there are no more internationally successful Finnish bands or artists. I tell you, there are not many native Finns who can fool non-Finns with their accent. And there are even less who can also sing. :)

I think it's more due to the lack of PR and marketing connections (and money) why that is/was. Now we've seen that the route is getting clearer and bands have moved onward on the market in suction of the pioneers.

About the language business - I've noticed that there's been significant improvement with the new generations. I also think that it is we finns who put the issue under a microscope more than anyone else. We're a self-critical nation.

True, true. I personally can't stand the Finnish-English accent (which most Finns, including me, speak... :) ), but it's true that we probably pay more attention to it than anyone else.

..If you have ever listened to Mika Häkkinen (an ex-formula-driver, you know?) or some Finnish skijumpers speaking English, you know why we are so proud about Mark's pronounciation.. (is that written correct? Such a weird word..)
