Hi, I'm new here (haven't even got my colours up yet so to speak) and I'm just so glad there are like minded fans here at last. Outside of Finland I presume POTF to be relatively unknown still, on the verge of greatness and world wide recognition. That's how seriously I feel the band's potential is, I think they are something really special and unique, and their lyrics and sound are quite amazing.

Anyway, I just wanted to know how fans on this forum discovered them, particularly any outside of Finland though I'd like to hear from everyone and anyone.

I'm from the UK, so I feel like I'm the only person who knows them, probably in my town for sure (what a boast lol). I bought Max Payne 2 for the PC quite soon after it's release, it was an Xmas present for me actually. I completed the game after a few days and was amazed by its briliance and it remains my favourite pc game ever (only Silent Hill 2 beats it and tops my game list), but I was taken aback by the music at the end credits. It was such a brilliant song and the lyrics were to diverse and expressive, not simply repeat the chorus whilst screaming over and over stuff we get a lot of nowadays. I ended up writing a POTF guide for a game site for the lyrics and band info. which by then I don't think they were even signed up or had a web site even. I thought that would be the last I'd here of them....

Then on a well known auction site (you know the one guys and gals) I came across their single for Late Goodbye and I suddenly thought 'wow, they got signed up at last, I can own the song proper now' and that's when I also saw the single for 'Lift' on there too. Sweating with excitement at new material I went to amazon and lo and behold, the album was available to buy on import. This was about 3 months ago. I managed to buy the album to go with my late goodbye single about less than a month ago now, and I'm surprised I've not knackered it with it being on repeat so much lol. This week, went back to the site to see it had flourished and I finally watched the Lift video online which blew me away. I wish I could download it somwhere for sure. And now I patiently await the moment when they become global. Won't be long....

So, that's my story (one of chance, fate and perseverance lol)[/i]

I was asking around on IRC for a good band, and a Finnish friend of mine sent me Late Goodbye and Lift.

I have a friend who lives in Helsinki, and I asked him if he knew anything good that I could look into, and he pointed me to PoTF in the beginning of the summer I think :)

I saw them at the showcase on the Popkomm in Berlin this year. guess, that's one of the best ways to discover new bands :D
got to know also some other bands through such a way.

well, my brother came to my room, said "I've got something, that you might like", then I listened to Late Goodbye. I asked, what band this, cause the vocalist has fascinating voice. Poets of the Fall - he answered.
a few months later SoL was released, and before that I knew Lift, The Beautiful Ones, Everything Fades and Maybe Tomorrow Is a Better Day - from this site :)
then, Sorrow created http://poets.unforgiven.pl, but by then my love for Poets has been already incredibly strong :)

My boyfriend was playing Max Payne 2 and when he got to the end ''Late Goodbye'' played and we both liked it straight away. From there we checked the credits, got the band's name and typed it on the Internet and downloaded other songs of theirs.

What the..- HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! You're here too?!

LMAO, first we meet because Silent Hill 2 is our favourite game, then you add me to MSN because we both LOVE Anastacia and now you show up on forum of my favourite band xD Just HOW creepy is that? o_O;;

Anyways, it's really nice to see you here!

Well, my story is... just a bit different from other's. My brother was the one obsessed with Max Payne 2, and one night he gave me some songs he wanted me to rip on a CD so he could listen to them when his PC is off. One of them was 'Late Goodbye' that he had extracted from the game. I usually don't pay much attention to songs he listens to and delete them as soon as I rip them - but by some coincidence, LG ended up on my Winamp list.
And it just STUCK.
I asked my bro to play me the MP2 credits, tracked down the band, found the website, joined forums... the rest is history.

When one of my friends beat Max Payne2 he liked Late Goodbye so much that he burned it onto a mix CD for us to listen to on our way home from school. And when it first played it went silent in the car and all of us were just shocked.
I live in the U.S. so of couse GOOD music is a shocking thing to behold

I'm one of the few who didn't hear of them off Max Payne.

3dMark2005 is to blame in my case

my ex-boyfriend played computer games quite often and that's how he discovered this wonderful song. we had very similar music-taste and he insisted that I have to listen it.I loved it and tried to search more songs by POTF, but didn't find anything. so I "forgot" them for some time, but luckily, about two-three months ago I accidentally found this forum and started to listen them again.

not very catching story, I know :)

Wow, it was really interesting hearing how each person got to know the POTF, and in their own way. Just goes to show, Max Payne 2 was not the only avenue. Also glad to see someone else from the UK in on the act, maybe it's down to us to spread the word

Donna, I was :o and then laughing out loud when I saw your reply to the topic. I kinda figured you liked late goodbye the song since Max Payne 2, but I didn't realise you were THAT into them. Seems we have a lot in common, at least musically and video game wise. Can't wait to catch up with you, I've added you to my msn again as I lost a few contacts unfortunately (long story) so I'll look out for you when you're online again. Also have to say that post of yours with various POTF goodies (the msn pics, aim pics etc) was very well done. Great seeing you here, if not a little spooky as you say lol[/i]

Hi guys! I am from a little island at the Caribbean Sea named Puerto Rico (Commonwealth state of USA). And like some of you, I discover POTF playing Max Payne. It's like a BANG reaction when I heard LATE GOODBYE. I search the band in the web and download some demos. Damn it! What a GREAT band!!! Like no other... I just send the demo to some friends, and they like the music. Nice work, keep it up!

Le envié el demo a algunos amigos, y les gustó la música. Buen trabajo, sigan adelante!

Same here :P

He's been "promoting" it on our Dutch game-forum Powerzone and when I found out that it was the same band that made the beautiful soundtrack of "Max Payne 2" I just had to hear the entire album. And it's just great! :D

It started when i bought Max Payne 2 in November last year. I even liked the little samples of Late Goodbye from the Janitor, Mona and the Cleaners and i hoped that there may be a complete song of it.
Then i finished this brilliant game and i was hooked when i heard the song.
It fitted so perfectly in the situation because the game has an sad ending and it left me in a sad/melancholy mood and no other song i heard before had this effect on me.

So i followed the link to this site to get more info about them. I was lucky that Maybe tomorrow is a better day was released at that point. So i got more into them with listening to these two songs everyday and starting to read the forum.

I recognised that this was a nice and friendly place so i registered here and looked for a way to get my hands on SoL. With an helpful hint from SAREK i imported the album. It was the expensivst album, (25 € with the importing) but one of the best i've ever bought.

The next level was that i changed my whole holiday plans and flew to Finland to see them live.
And also an trip through the whole country to see them again in Berlin

And all this because of a song in a computergame

Someone recommended them to me on a LiveJournal community, knowing that I'm into lots of Finnish bands already, so I gave them a listen and now I'm hooked 8)

I've played Max Payne 2 and just like "Rasputin" i liked the samples of the Janitor, Mona and the Cleaners. I even stopped for a moment when the janitor was singing his "sample". And the end of the game I heard the whole theme and i was hooked, did some searching on the internet and found out it was PoTF. The next thing I did was order the cd from finland and now i'm promoting the music to all the dutchies ^_^,

I heared Lift and Late Goodbye from Finnish radiostation City.
I think it was about november 2004 :?
I heared the bands name many times wrongly, until I was in front of my Pc when Lift came out,
I went to radiostations website and saw what was on air at the monent!
Then I went to the local music shop to ask if they had any singles or anything from this amazing band, but they didn´t find any,
even they searched a lot :(

Well I came home and I realized that Google is a good friend of mine and I found this website.
From here I discovered that singles are available from webshops,
so I bought em and joined the forum on january 14th :D
At the same day? (I think) I ordered SoL at advance and it came to me one day before official release!
One of the happiest days of this year!
The second one was my first gig in march 18th :D

I have to thank my brother for buying max payne 1 with a pc games magazine. I hate shooter games but I kinda liked it so I downloaded MP2 and at the end of the game I was fired by that great song. In the first 30 seconds I thought: "why Micheal Stipe makes songs for videogames? I hate him but it suonds good" Than I realized that Late Goodbye is not a Rem song, and started searching on internet.
I don't even remember if this site already existed at that time but i found something useful to be in contact with the band

later I downloaded Lift and maybe tomorrow... and after the chat on IRC (I didn' t ask questions but it was great, hope to do it again) I officially become a fan. Some time ago I bought SOL with Stupido and it costed only 20 euros.

The only thing that I miss is to see them live... Hope that this can happen as soon as possible

I have this great finnish friend that is totaly nuts about music and he got me addicted to lots of bands,
most are finnish, like Sonata Arctica & Negative.
Anyway, one day he said 'here check this out' and he send me Lift ...
needless to say I totaly fell in love with it.
So he got me more songs and he even bought the cd for me.
After playing it to death, I went out to check the website,
fell from my chair when I finaly saw the video and eventualy got myself reg'd here.

I read in a computermagazine, that the characters in the game all sing the same song, but I didnt pay attention to that when I played it the first time.
Anyway, when the credits were played, I immediately fell in love with the song and looked in the internet about the Poets Of The Fall. But the site was brand new, only two pictures of the mummified bird and not much more. There wasnt a forum either, so I created a save right before the encounter with Vlad, so I could beat him and hear the song (Yeah, I know there is a button "Credits" but that is just not the same).
After some time I came back and by chance saw that there was a forum with some people and a frequently visited "Germans"-Thread. So I registered, downloaded Tomorrow Will Be A Better Day and liked it, too. I bought the CD at ebay and... well, thats where I am now.
