I feel a tad nonsensical creating this topic but what the hell.. I think we deserve one

..and I wanted to ask some of you what you thought about the new coins that are coming into circulation this summer;
http://www.royalmint.com/newdesigns/designsRevealed.aspxAnybody know why we're retaining 1p and 2p coins at all? In Australia, the 1 and 2-cent coins are long gone, and the 5 cents (=2p) should join them. Prices are still given in cents, with rounding up or down of totals to the nearest 5 cents.
Also, shame they took Britannia off the 50 pence coin. I think that she is a magnificent symbolism of Britain who should've always remained there.. somehow. Overall, I think it's a contemporary over design but this is the first time that a single design has been used across a range of British coins. So why not?

K, I'm going to shut up now

I think it's because they feel that 1p and 2p are historical with Britain as they have been around for centuries (dating back to 1714 well before decimalisation in 1971, which is what we know the Penny to be these days), for me I am very glad we didn't move to the Euro and they held a competition on the new reverse design of all the coins as they felt the Britannia design had become a little jaded and started to show its age, you can thank Matthew Dent for the new design lol.
Surprisingly I actually like the new designed coins, it marks a step into the 21st century, I always felt the old design was too 1970's (even when they updated the old chunky 50p to the newer slim version) I dunno it's just something about that new design that I like they look smart.
