Balance is a really good song :D I like how it pushes the 'cinematic rock' part of what PotF did with Twilight Theatre even further. Can we hope for more of that? ;_;

THS, eh, not so much, but since it was made for AW2, I guess I'll have to hear it in context of the game to truly appreciate it (I haven't played AW games yet). I find it a bit too repetitive/tiring at the moment.

I listened to the song a lot and I can't help the feeling that Poets' did it not only as a theme for Mr. Scratch, but also as a theme for quite a few of their fans too... Me included

*Knock Knock* Mad if I say something regarding Mr. Scratch, here? (I'm also listening to The Happy Song, so I'm in-topic, somehow...)
Why nobody told me the actor is so... GOOD LOOKING??? (Just to use a polite term)
I didn't realize that, before! Well Mr. Ilkka Villi, welcome into my own "world", gorgeous Finn man!   :P

C'mon! This is too easy! Not that I got something clear in my mind, but sure a collage of funny&distorted faces&moves of the Guys come to my mind, everytime I listen to THS, along with a weirdly awesome "psycho-dance" they undoubtedly would be so skilled in performing... :P

I never imagined video to that song, all I can see while listening is Mr. Scratch dancing (now that's an unforgettable sight  ) or I see Marko totally cracking up, bursting out laughing (well, they had to record that too) in this little recording booth of theirs.

oh, I can imagine a video for The Happy Song!
I can see it taking place in a kind of... what's the name? a club where they have cabaret-like shows. With a 'theater-like' stage, and all the tables around for the audience to sit and watch.

With the guys on stage for a crazy performance, with the camera moving and maybe distorting some images sometimes. And there could be all kind of theatrical weird stuff and characters around the place.
And in the meanwhile, there's Mr. Scratch (I love Ilkka Villi playing it ^^) wandering and dancing around, happily. Walking among the tables.. and randomly killing people while laughing (a video for THS would have a lot of crazy laughs  ).

You guys would win that "Best Finnish Video Of All Time" award again

Hi Guys,

I'm a newbie to the forums and came here to "hopefully" get an answer on a debate I've been having with my friend.
We were recently listening to the Old gods of Asgard stuff Poets had done for a video game and were trying to decifer(how do you spell that?) the lyrics from the song Balance slays the demon. big mistake, BIG FIGHT :)

Anyway, turning to you guys if someone can help. Here is the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhh3bd1hwjk

Our argument is over the lyrics starting at 2.47 ending at 3.14.

I won't write what we think it is because people always tend to hear what you tell them.

I can't seem to find the lyrics to the song anywhere on the net. If anyone can direct me to those that'd be a MASSIVE HELP:)

Also, sorry to be a newbie and asking silly questions, any assistance is much appreciated.

Aleksi

There's some kind of lyrics posted here:
http://lyricsjunction.com/lyrics/old-gods-of-asgard/balance-slays-the-demon/
They're not the official ones however, and I think there are at least a few mistakes.

My guess about the lyrics is this (when it comes to the part you asked for):
Screaming, mute darkness descend on this frail frame
I drown in fathomless black space, light never scratched the depths of this domain
I see not, yet nothing could be worse than the shades my mind calls herein
Alone at my own wake, the unraveling of reason's scheme

And don't fight with your friend! :)

I don't want to do any of those you mentioned in your posts, but I guess according to OGOA's discography, they have an album called The Unraveling of Reason's Skein, so I think it might be one of the good choices... :?

Ha ha, it's not a real fight. It's just one of those things that when you land on a subject you both have an opinion on and begin to "claim" you know how it goes:) it does get pretty heated sometimes though and I feel like putting my finger in his eye:)

Thank you for your reply. And thank you for directing me to those lyrics - this is the first time we see anything written down about those, albeit I don't think they are correct(you pointed that out too).

Awesome. This line has been driving us up the wall- scene, scheme, skane, scone:) an a bunch of others, but that album fact is a definite winner!:)

Thanks for All the help so far. Is there really no official lyrics anywhere?

Then we agree and disagree about much of the rest...

I'm bound by feathers in this place
Light attached
He wept in his domain
"?????????" ...nothing could be worse
Man and blades
My mind calls him
Alone about to break
The unraveling of reason’s skein(thanks for the help on this)

Makes no sense but this is what I reckon at least. Any opinions or help?

OK, our friend aleksi85 has found something really interesting, but due to unavailability of required means for aleksi to post it, I was chosen to be the one to put it here. (If I'd understood the message correctly)

This blog contains a post in which there's a a part of our beloved song "Balance Slays the Demon" (poem 2), the part that contains "The Unraveling of Reason's Skein". Moreover, there are also other intriguing things about this blog. First of all, the blog is about a girl who has bought a house in a city called Ordinary, which is another reference to the reversed part of the song, and finds strange things in it, such as poems, pictures, etc.. Secondly, the pictures on the blog are distorted in exactly the same way as the enemies in Alan Wake first artworks, distorted-by-ink faces. I've not played Alan Wake's American Nightmare, so I have no idea how interesting this blog could be for those who've played it. So if you enlighten me, I'd be grateful... :)

This blog...
Hey, this is really interesting. I think it's a fansite of some kind, someone came up with a brilliant idea. I wonder why the entries haven't continued since early April... maybe there hasn't been enough time for it?
I'd be interested to read more, it has a lot of potential to develop into an exciting horror tale! I got hooked already. :P

Thanks to aleksi85 for finding it and you razor for posting about it. ^^ It's cool!

Edit. Just for curiosity's sake, Ordinary is a small place (population just shy of 12 400) in coastal Virginia, USA, just north of a larger city of Newport News. There's another small town to the west of Ordinary, across the river, called Toano. It was built in early 19th century on a site called Burnt Ordinary because of a roadside tavern that had burned down in 18th century.

There's also a part of the lyrics in poem 5 at least.
"Beyond the shadow you settle for
there is a miracle
Illuminated"

I really need to look into all the poems more carefully now.
I'll edit this post if I find more connections.

I love this kind of stuff! :D

Edit:
Poem 4
"beyond the lake
He called home
Lies a deeper darker
Ocean green"

Could this mean Alan Wake 2?... :!: :?:

Or could this mean some kind of a prequel story for Alan Wake 3 (which will take place in Ordinary)? :D :P
Now that would be sweet!

I guess you didn't notice here on forum but the quote is the reversed lyrics in Balance Slays the Demon, old news to me :)
