Funny, I always thought that this was a scarf. Forgive my ignorance...

I don't manage to watch the video in whole, it gets stuck every little while, but here we go:

While the video was charging I read your comments which was a mistake, I thought that there will be something from Poets that I don't like. Luckily I managed to stay pretty open-minded, and I really, really like the video - I'd love to say 'love' instead of 'like', but can you take me seriously if I just love everything? :P

I don't know why, but for some reason (maybe because this is the first time when I've been along before the song of the music video's was released?) this is the first music video that really makes me feel like... It feels like the music video and the music are a mysterious and unknown sea that I have to dive into if I want to know what it's about. Like there is so much to know, so many treasures to find and I have to do all I can to find at least a small part of them so that I can understand the sea in my own way. The video is only a surface of the sea and the music is the dephts of it, and I just didn't realize that before I saw the video. ...Got confused? :mrgreen:

[If you don't want to read others' interpretations, watch out, here's one]
I didn't dive very deep yet, I have to do it when I have more time and a better computer, but I got this strange feeling like Marko was the house, figuratively. And about the story, for me it's something like this: she has found a new love (not sure about that?) but he still loves her and has been left in the loneliness, cherishing the memory. In spite of all, she doesn't know how to let him go and comes back to him - maybe in her thoughts only - kind of unwittingly, I think.
Then she finds that necklace and takes it with her, like it was a sign or a memory of everything they had, and at the same time he tells her that she's free to go, there's no need to be sorry. Then she leaves and he stays alone.
The end feels kind of happy, but after all, there is still a shiver of that he's not completely alright. I'm not sure why, is it only life or what? :|

I love the video because it's so deep for me. And I'm completely rapt with the song.

// that house is awesome. I'd like to visit there. :D

///I like trpiotrek's thoughts, too :)

...You of course must have known exactly when it was going to come out, eh?

not at all, take no offense please. my excitement is what makes me lose control.

how touchy are these fans, eh? (me included) :)

but the director of the video made Mark look like Marylin Manson! :(

Just because so many here seem to not like it ;) - I love the feather boa. Have liked it ever since it became part of the stage outfit (same goes for the top hat). I think it suits Marko's alter ego character very well.

I don't feel like analying the video, so I won't ;)
@tripiotrek: I really like your thoughts about it :))

Cradled in Love Video - professional review
Starring:
Marko Saaresto - as Zoltar Boa
Seinä Puoli - as Zoltar's love interest
Pneumonia Keuhkokuume - as girl in a dress without sleeves (in a cold winter day)
Sanko Kiulu - Bucket

This video tells two different love stories - one between Zoltar (Marko) and Wall (Seinä), and other between a girl in a dress without sleeves (in a cold winter day) (Pneumonia) and Bucket (Sanko). Sounds interesting at first, but all the good things end in there. Firstly, the 3D effects are PATHETIC. I could not experience any visual depth. So goes and for the CGI - too few effects were used. This clip is nothing like Avatar. If you ask me, I will not give it any Oscar at all. Hell, I would not even nominate it for any of the categories. POTF must be idiots not to include any Oscar winning actors in their videos. The chemistry between Marko and Seinä didn't work out. Sure, he gave the best he can and deserves admirations for that, but Seinä was kinda lifeless and cold, and didn't respond at all. Pneumonia's outfit was hideous. How she even agreed to wear this? Inappropriate. You must be a complete moron not to know that at this kind of year, people want to see baywatch suits, not a gothic dress. Sanko showed few waves here and there, but clearly you can see he is a shallow actor. At least his performance was far better than Seinä's. The OST was bearable, but it lacks electric guitars. Sure, some were used, but I think we all agree it could have used a bit more. I was hoping for AC/DC kind of style. Probably this video featured a sex scene too, but it was cut in the last minute. You can see the girl lying on a bed with Zoltar near her at some point, but then the camera cuts and we could not see what happened. This was probably done to avoid the PG-13 rating, I think. Overall, don't waste your money! If you are masochist, I'm sure some confused soul will upload it in YouTube and you could watch it for free!

(edit: 667 now, devil's neighbor)

Exactly, thanks for putting in words what I couldn't.
I've watched it a couple times more and I really like it, but it doesn't have that "wow" factor I usually have for most of the Poets' works. But it's nice and I'm fine with that.

The video, as simple as it was, fits the song well. The first bit with the door closing behind her, was Marko's last attempt at keeping his love for himself. It was only in the end he could finally let her go...

"Don't cry for your love, cry tears of joy, 'cus you're alive. Cradled in love."

Goes with the old saying: "Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."

I was in love with CiL from the start and after this video I really adore this song. It fits perfectly.
In the parts where Marko sits, it lookes like he is one with the wall and the castle or building ... somehow like a statue which tried to break free. I can see all the dust and plaster on is arms while he's moving....
..... and I love his moves :) and finally he got a perfect make-up.

Does the girl wear shoes of glas? Reminds me of a fairy tail and makes her a bit unreal because you can look through them.

Awwww! And the featherboa reminds me of all the very special moments during their gigs.

Okay, I don't have any deeper thoughts about the video. For me it's just as beautiful as the song is :-)

I thought the feather boa was AWESOME! It's dramatic, it has this faded glamour -sort of feel to it and it compliments the rest of the top hat look perfectly. I really hope Poets don't ditch it because of the negative comments. I loved the feather boa, and I'm pleased Marko has the balls to wear it - all men wouldn't have.

BenAkenobi wrote:

... I'm pretty sure that look was designed by Marko himself. Didn't he wear the hat, the feather boa and eyeliner on a few gigs way before the filming of the video? Anyway, I think the whole look suits both Marko and the character very well.

Sounds like typical Marko to me. I mean, if you look at any live video of PotF, he's like the master of dramatic poses. Some of which are feminine. Which is fine if you ask me.

The video reminds me Carnival of Rust (I mean the idea): 1. the girl is come; 2. Marko is singing (talking) to her; 3. the girl walks away.

Unlike the Carnival's place the castle is cold and empty.
I think all of this symbolizes THE STATE OF SOUL/MIND:

1. CoR described the soul, FULL OF temptations, torments, doubts, questions;

2. CiL describes the soul, FULL Of emptiness and coldness, because She is alone, nobody tempts or misleads her (in contrast to the CoR video), She is just suffering from her loneliness.

And THIS time the Heroine seems to consider His words )))

It's my vision. :)

Now I've finally read some comments here

The Foreboding wrote (and I wasn't aware of this comment, when I posted mine) :

".... got this strange feeling like Marko was the house, ...."

Exactly I think something similar. (Statue or something in the walls)

@Arvigeus
I really like your review (not that I agree with it) but it's so funny and made me laugh. :lol:

@Ynnead
Yes the feather boa and the whole outfit and make up is something I love. It's unique and for this video just perfect.
And yes, it is a bit strange for me too why some people suddenly are astonished about the feather boa and make up and moves. 1. It was Marko's outfit since last November in India 2. He often moves on stage like that. :)
I never heard any negative comments about it before. :o

Well, due to its style, I guess Hans Zimmer would be a better choice.

Who's the underrated one?

I found The Foreboding interpretation nice, but Marko also could be the love itself... sort of a forgotten love or something... :idea:

First time the boa was so disturbing, I couldn't actually enjoy the video. At second watch it got better, but I think it won't ever going to be my favourite PotF vide.

By the way: When I first saw Marko, he looked like a painting on the wall. Maybe he's not the house but a painting, not letting go its observer. :)

I feel like I have to say something :D. First of all, I loved the song even before the video came out. I liked the beginning of the video and its cinematic shots and was hoping for the same caliber as CoR's video. The setting was amazing and the clothes didn't bother me that much. I just felt that nothing really symbolic happened. I wished there were different shots of Marko and to include the rest of the band somewhere. Sorry if you see me as a villan but I don't think this video will be one of my top favorites. I still like the song though.

@Foreboding: I like very much your empathetic view :D

After immersing into the video and the music with an open heart and mind, having watched it several times...

... like it is said, I too visualize that something is in the house or the houses walls, like the spirit of the girls lover, his spirit which surrounds the girl in this house.
The girl comes back to what was their dwelling place, moved by her bemoaned love for him.
As she lies in the bed all her past feeling comes into her mind, as the door jumps open, like her lover wants to tell her that she now can leave behind what is gone. She runs out and stops right in front of the lightening pillar as a tower of strength. It's like she can catch his appearance through this lightening veil and leaves by going right through this tower of strength.

But then, when I saw the lover sitting in the wall, I thought that the lovers' spirit again is waiting and longing in the walls of this old house for.... well... maybe for her to come back when she`s ready to climb another degree together with him... cos true love is a spiritual thing, not of this material world, has no gender (not sure if this notion is the right one, meaning love isn't male nor female), all around and eternal ( just my view of it :) )- therefore he can let her go even though he is sad, but he knows she is 'cradled in love'.

In my humble opinion its true art and I'm very impressed by Markos immense talent to do things like he does. I love it!

Isn't it this very distinction for what we love Poets of the Fall? :lol: :lol: :lol:

Finally saw the video and I'm amazed and dazzled by it. First of all, the location is amazing: usually abandoned buildings have a very creepy, sinister feel to them, but here the crew had been able to turn it into a bright and beautiful place by using a lot of light. It gave a great setting for the video's story.

Many people comment on Marko being a ghost. I like to believe that they both are (dispite the rather modern clothing, which by the way doesn't bother me in the least). I also don't think that the two ghosts have anything to do with each other, even when they're in the same room. In fact, they don't even know the other is there. They're just trapped in their own world, memories and some kind of a loop of reaccurring events in the house where they both once lived in different eras.

That said, I started coming up with all kinds of background stories for both characters, but I think I'll keep those to myself. :wink: But even though the video is short, it feels like those ghosts have been there for a long time. Perhaps with the pillar of spakles, "seeing the light", the girl is able to leave and finds peace.

At first I thought the video didn't have enough action in it, like the ghosts could have wandered around more in the house doing different things, but I also like the simplicity of it, it feels calmer this way, which goes better with the song.

Over all, having read other people's comments, I'm really glad that people have different thoughts about this. I don't mind if someone else doesn't like it at all and tells about it: for me it's enough that I like it, very very much.

This is a very beautiful interpretation. I love it!

You wrote: "... - therefore he can let her go even though he is sad, but he knows she is 'cradled in love'...."

For me this is what true love is about. Not being egoistic and be able to let go.
It's a very special and thoughtful video about love. It shows that love is not all happiness. It can hurt and leaves us sometimes all alone.

@DSoL

Interesting view! Especially about the two characters who have nothing to do with each other. This really leads to so many different stories. I like this idea.

Very nice interpretation DSoL. Beautifully stated!

I am going with the girl being alive because the song itself sings "you're alive, cradled in love". I am thinking she can't let go until her lover releases her through his presence and maybe when she layed on the bed and slept, he was able to ease her mind as a spirit. Does that even make sense? Because then she was able to get up and move on(leave the house) where when she came in, she was confused and lost(entering backwards).
The way that he is still there and left behind and she is now free fits perfectly with how the song, from the first time I heard it, makes me feel melancholy and a bit sad while still giving me some feelings of joy and happiness. The joy and happiness from her and the sadness from him. Another reason why I think one of them is a ghost is because the song sings of such a beautiful and strong love that I think the only thing that could have ended it would have been death, and yet it's still strong. Hmmm, so much to consider.

This video is so beautifully done...

Okay, I dove a little deeper. I'm sorry if the last try was a bit unclear, and sorry about filling this thread with nonsense, I just have to 'list' my thoughts so that I can find out what is going on in my head :| So, another interpretation on the way - I've warned you now.

I still feel like Marko is partially/kind of the house, or the house is he/his memories and thoughts, a part of him that he wants to show to her, kind of figuratively and kind of literally at the same time. Like Marko, the house is abandoned, worn and cold as well... And this 'sitting Marko' even blends into the wall. When the girl comes in, it's like he closes the door so that he can tell her what he wants to tell (though at the same time it looks like he wakes up when the door slams shut, so I'm not sure what to think).

Then she wanders around in the house like he was showing his thoughts/leaving clues of them to her and he follows her, trying to find out what she's thinking about everything she sees. Finally she comes to that room, finds the necklace (a memory of him) and lays on the bed for a while, like she was thinking what to do. Then he tells her that it's okay, go on, *the chorus of CiL here* (the chorus makes me think that maybe she has found a new love ('you're -- cradled in love')).

Then the door opens and she goes to the hallway, where she sees him and then she understands everything. And she leaves, happy and emancipated. I think the ending goes like in the life: he's happy because he let her go, but 'conclusively' alone and still loves her, so he just can't forget it and be like everything's alright.

Lots of holes in my thoughts and, for example, I've no slightest idea about Sanko Kiulu's role. And I'm really sorry if you're totally blown away. :?
//This was mostly a supplement for my last interpretation, so it's pretty repetitive.
//And all this is just my humble opinion! :)

About the clothing, if Marko's clothes weren't his idea, maybe he wore them on gigs like as a clue of the upcoming music video?

Ynnead wrote:

I agree with this.

And I don't understand why being bold and different makes people think that you're gay - I wonder this especially after reading comments on Youtube. I absolutely do not object to gayness or care about anyone's sexuality, all I try to say is I generally just don't understand this connection between being different and being gay.

@DanceOfFlame, @razor & @Unity, thank you :)
@Porthos13, good to hear that I'm not the only one :D

Foreboding, I really like your interpretation as well! It's along the same lines as how I feel. About him setting her free to move on. Nicely stated!

Also, one thing about video itself. In the vid, when the music gets that strong beat and the water splashes high in time with it, I thought that was just so amazing! So dramatic and beautiful. I think this video was brilliantly done.

And one more thing, I love Markos costuming and it didn't detract from the video at all for me. I thought it fit quite well.

@Unity, @DSoL & @Tobyanca: it's fantastic to read your interpretations. I love to hear other views, especially when they are as rich and thoughtful as yours :) Thank you very much for sharing! :D

First of all: Arvigeus, you were brilliant with your interpretation :lol:

Second of all, I like how interesting and different people's interpretations are :)

Right, back on track. I see the video like this:

A girl who is alone and looking for love / or has just broken up with her boyfriend sees this beautiful abandoned house. She wants to escape the bitter reality for a while and enters. Marko, who hasn't felt anything for so long that he became a lost soul trapped in this house, senses her feelings of desperation and comes back to life for a while thanks to that. As the girl walks through the rooms, Marko remembers how it felt like when he could feel. When he was loved and loved someone. Then he remembers when that someone broke his heart and made him become a trapped soul.

He then he sends her the message: "(...) don't cry for your love, cry tears of joy, cause you're alive." He doesn't want her to become like him. So the girl finds herself again and leaves the house to come back to reality where she'll eventually find love / find a new love after her last one.

And that's a wrap from me ^^
