NOTE - Sorry for all of the random topics I've created. I'm not trying to spam the board or anything. I'm just curious about people and their lives. Is that creepy?

My chemisty teacher has this book called "I am neurotic and so are you", which is about crazy things people do. If you have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or if you go to great measures to avoid certain things, this thread is for you. I want to know what makes you neurotic.

How am I neurotic?
- When I'm sitting in class, the teacher has to erase ALL of the marker from the whiteboard or I get extremely uncomfortable and cannot concentrate on my work.
- I have to constantly shuffle my papers because I can't stand it when a stack of papers looks untidy. I have a similar thing with books and journals. If I'm carrying books, they have to all have the binding facing the same direction.
- I can only wash my hands with hot water. Otherwise, it doesn't feel clean to me.
- I cannot touch my ipod without its cover on. I'm too afraid it will get covered in fingerprints. If I do find a fingerprint on something, I have to immediately wash it off.

Oh, these are always nice. *laugh*

Well, I guess the most weirdest thing is the fact I can't stand drawers and cupboard doors which are open just a tiny bit. I really need to close them properly or I can't concentrate on anything. You can just imagine how nice English lesson I had on the 9th grade when I saw a half-open drawer in front of the class and I was sitting in the back... I really didn't remember anything about that lesson afterwards.
This is pretty contradicting since otherwise I'm pretty messy person. *laugh*

I once had this tremendous urge to find a completely round potato chip from the bag... I examined everyone and if it wasn't round, I ate it. I never found the perfect chip, however.

And then this nice thing. I'm always too early everywhere. In school, meetings etc. I get to school earlier than our group teacher! That's just... Weird.

But I read somewhere the neurotic people are the most creative ones also. No wonder I have so good imagination...

Surely another neurotic person here! Famous for that, actually.

Don't leave books unattended anywhere, especially open on any page. I get fixated on that.
Whenever I go - I may just be going to the bathroom of something - I always check if I have my wallet, my mobile and my keys with me. At least twice.
If I am to leave some place, I will check if I have taken everything few times, including moving the chairs, plates on the tables and so on. At least twice.
I check if I closed doors and if I closed the car and I do it at least six times (my friends count it and it's bloody irritating).
When going out I will check if the stove is off, the iron's off, all the animals on their places with water to drink, all the windows closed. It does not matter if I did turn on the stove or ironed anything during the day. I will check anyway, at least two or three times.
I check the lights, including turning them on again just tu be sure. The I turn the lights off again, I look suspicously if I really turned it off and go.
I doublecheck if the fridge is closed, almost every time I just walk through the kitchen.

Yeah, that's it for a start. Dunno how many buses I missed because of my neurotic behaviour.
:)

Hmmmmm..........well it really depends on one's definition of neurotic. Checking to make sure you have things with you and making sure that things are done many times are obsessive compulsive which is a form of neurosis but there are others as well.

I am always listening to POTF which is an addiction and is classified as neurotic (a good one of course  ) and I keep a "list" I have compiled of various things and check it to update it often which is also an addiction, but I like my strange habits and don't plan on getting rid of them.

I noticed one more a bit neurotic thing with me last night.
When I go to bed, I must check my alarm at least once before I can soundly fall asleep or even think of it. I know I have set the alarm but I really must check if it's the right time.
But I think that's just useful neurosis. : D

Oh yeah, count me on that one too! Though I check it around 4-5 times :?

@Snow yeah, I know there are other types of neurosis :) I'm obsessive compulsive, true. Could be worse, so I usually don't mind, unless it really disturbs my daily rhythm.
Your neurosis sounds like a pretty nice one, to be honest :)

that's a tough one..

Count me in with those who check the alarm clock before falling asleep. But I do it also when I don't have to set it: I just need to see the time (even when I'm on holiday).
Actually almost everyone needs to do some little things when they go to bed. they're not neurosis, I heard it's something that helps the brain switch off from the day.

I also check a few times if I left anything when I'm leaving, if I closed the car, etc.
Nothing serious.
I used to have some more in the past.
Maybe it's living with people who have tons of neurosis that made me get rid of mine... or maybe my mind just went from neurosis to paranoias: so much 'funnier'.

Every time I look at Alphawolf's avatar I think he is laughing at me.

Oh wait, that would be paranoid

I don't consider myself a neurotic, but when I'm shopping I never take the first item in the pile and I always have to arrange my stuff so that the side with the product's name is on the front.

The toothpaste always has to be squeezed from the bottom of the tube up, so that all of the paste is at the top of the tube. Otherwise, I can't brush my teeth without getting really nervous about whether the paste was properly mixed. That stuff settles, you know.

This little creature here is unsure whether following quircs could count as neurotic or not.
Whereever I go if it has to be at a specific time Imust be there at last 30 (up to 60) minutes early
In irregular intervals I (for lack of a better word) 'crack' my neck for fear of it getting stiff
Then of course I have to listen to music most of the time and my thoughts drift away almost constantly o.O

Lol, goodnes, another list person :D I am too. I actually sometimes have a hard time getting some things done unless it's written on a darned list. It's like I get lost or confused and don't know what to do, almost. I have to plan a lot beforehand, everything on the list has to be on the right order, sometimes with a timetable... If I change my mind about the order, I have to make a new, correct list before I can continue. But what's funny is that I don't care if something on the list doesn't get done. I can all of a sudden decide to leave something for tomorrow, for example, and it's not a problem at all.
But the need for making a list only includes some specific activities, so my whole life doesn't revolve around all kinds of lists. Just some things.
I also make lists for fun, even though I don't even plan to follow them. Like, a lunch and dinner menu for the next month that I will not follow even for a week.
Yes, I'm absolutely crazy.

I'm also the "have to be there a little early" person. But last weekend when I was late for something (meeting my friends before a gig) it didn't really matter to me at all. So it's just all about some kind of a strange, beforehand dread of being late, but when it actually happens, who cares.

Wonder why I haven't wander to that thread before...

Of course I have my quirks, I've never counted myself among exactly normal people (although there is a saying I like very much that goes: Everyone is slightly mental, just not everyone is diagnosed  No offence.)

But this thing about keeping a list DSoL, reminded me of one of my behaviour, that bugs me sometimes. I have to get _everything_ written down, whether it's a shopping list, to-do-list, my random thoughts (not that they're so genius after all). If I don't have this written down, usually on my laptop, I won't have my peace. If I don't have a laptop at hand I write on my mobile phone, sheets of paper, sometimes my own arm. I can get up in the middle of the night to write something. I can pause the film I'm watching to write down a comment I won't even show to anybody. And I wasn't like that at first, someone taught me that and then just left me with it.

About being early on meetings: I also do that, but that just because I am very capable of getting lost everywhere, even in Poland where I can always ask for directions I carry a map with me

hmmm, let me count the ways. I am just a little lacking in sanity sometimes lapses in sanity and fits of madness but I am stable and that is the important bit. After all as long as your sane enough to think relativity cleanly and are not killing anyone you have more then enough.
I have asperger's syndrome, certain sounds, smells texture I just can not stand. the vacuum cleaner, chemical cleaners or spider weds to name a few, If I get over stimulated my mind can get stuck on thoughts spinning around and around. Till it's like trying to take a bow by the horns, and I can feel a wrongness that is hard to describe. I can stand sudden changes to my daily patterns, I can get up set if someone moves one thing but not others or if someone does something different to my food (I will try all sort of new food but once you do something odd to a normal food, no thank you). I hate being late, I will squeeze my hot tea bags to get the last bit of tea out of them my hands have a fair resistance to heat. I find certain and often annoying sounds fascinating and I can pick out something that is the slights bit out of place. I had once found a little green tree frog out of the corner of my eye hanging upside down one a branch that as a little below eye level. Oh and I have a twisted sense of humor, so yeah I am all sorts of neurotic but in all of the right ways

... I have to get up one hour before I have to go, even though I can get ready in 20 minutes. If I get up just 2 minutes too late, I get really stressed xD
That's the only thing I can remember right now.. I'll write here again when I remember more things xD

yeah, now my mind is at rest - there are a lot of 'like-minded' people in here
I'm not alone.

I don't like open drawers, not at all. Every time I see one, I have to close it. When I go into bathroom or kitchen and someone had left one open but a little bit - bang - closed! :D The same with a cabinet door. 'Cos I got the weird talent to break out in blue spots

In the evening I have to look at the entrance door if its locked, go to all our rooms, if all lights are off.

And off course the toilet lid has to be closed - always, and all of my men (husband and boys) must not let it open, because something could fall into it :? weird?

when the poets wrote illusion and dreams they depicted me totally "I've got no hand in matters worldly, I hardly care at all, What's going on fails to concern me 'Cause I'm locked behind my wall" I don't care if the blackboard in the classroom is clean or not because I'm not anyway going to listen much, unless I'm really interested on the lesson; in which case, whatever else is not important; when I go to shop I simply grab the first item on the shelf (well the fruit and vegetables need a good look if they are still edible), hot water cold water, still water is (unless I'm freezing); I never double check anything and sometimes I got closed outside because I've forgot the keys inside the house; I sigh and call the housekeeper to open the door (I suppose he sighs and comes to open it for me hopelessly), I fall asleep deeply and very easily, my telephone is set to wake me up on working days at the same time, and when I am in holiday I can definitely tell the difference.
I don't like, though, when I realize that people are trying to fool me, or when they're abusing of my availability. I keep my house clean, but I'm not spending every second of my life to keep it aseptic. do I have the same psyche of an ameba? hmmm according to my boss not; I'd rather define myself as not really living in this planet, I am living, at the same time, in my imaginary worlds (oh they are many) but none of them came ever in conflict with each other; they exist separately and in harmony...oh yeah I am pretty neurotic myself too
