I listen to Cradled in Love and I live a moment of grace <3

I bought Cradled in Love at Thursday (and some other songs, too - one of them twice due to my awesome mistake). But I'd still like to get a physical CD...

The upcoming album will be released as a CD. The reason why more and more singles are released as downloads only is purely financial. No-one (expect some hardcore fans ) really buys physical singles any more, so while they of course have some promotional value, a simple download does pretty much the same thing with much less money and effort. Not to mention that manufacturing a physical single takes a lot of extra work and time (if you have ever been involved in anything that has something to do with designing & printing artwork, you know what I mean), and right now the guys are very busy finishing the album and can't afford to lose any time.

@POTF_admin I know, I know! And I still hope. It helps a bit. A hardcore fan? No way!
However, I'm really happy to be allowed to buy "at least" the new album as a CD!

^^ you can buy the FLAC files in the digistore, convert them to wav/aiff and burn them to CD. Then all you need is to print the cover and ... you have a single. I've done it with Can you hear me and I will with Cradled in Love.

I've also done it with them, but it's not the same. I'm stubborn.. And I got what I wanted, so naturally I want more.
No, just kidding. Having everything you want isn't good, so I just need to get on with self-made CDs If I try really hard, they may even look slightly cool

Then about CiL, it gets better every time when listening to it. I'm irritated 'cause it seems like many people (I'm talking mostly about my circle of acquaintances, etc) don't like the song because of kinda unusual, very beautiful falsetto. What's the reason? Is it too different compared to mainstream? Luckily I'm not only one who identifies with this piece of art.

Well, falsetto is just what makes Cradled in Love the song which is (or it is?)... for me, at least...
Feeling and lyrics of this song couldn't be represented/expressed better than this way...
And not a common falsetto, indeed, but a so very masterly modulated one, so as to enhance the pureness, sweetness, softness which this song is imbued with... Oh guys, this is just Pure Art!!!

By the way, thinking on the sadness and melancholy someone feels, listening to CiL, without finding a reason why: it might also be referred to someone who is gone forever... And "Don't cry for your love, cry tears of joy, cos you're alive cradled in love" it's something the character tells himself, as if it's the lost loved one telling him that...
And actually, the character might tell himself it even in the case of an ended love...

Claudia that is an interesting interpretation and it does fit. Oh how I love the fact that POTF songs can always be viewed from different angles.

The falsetto is indeed unusual and while I prefer Marko singing in a lower register, I can still marvel at how well he sings here. It fits the song very well, I cannot imagine it any other way and it's not only beautiful, but flawless. I really can't think of any other singer in rock/pop today who can cover such a range - it must take lots of practice to get there.
As for your question The Foreboding, my guess is that people are just not used to hearing falsetto and that's why they don't like it - so indeed "too far from mainstream"

One more word on the only digital release: While I prefer a physical CD, I understand how it does not make much sense to make them and I am very grateful, that Poets of the Fall offer FLAC files. There are so many digital only releases these days and I usually find myself searching for the store that offers the mp3 in the best compression rate. In this case, I don't have to - I just download the FLAC. That's a lot mare than many other artists offer. So thank you for that guys!

You're both right. I think CiL is just perfect (or divine!), too bad some people still don't get it. Falsetto isn't easy and, in my humble opinion, sounds awful when it goes wrong. But I don't need to grin painfully when listening to CiL, rather I get jelly or something 'cause it sounds so beautiful and... I have no words to describe the feeling!

@redbossfan You're right again. They really do a lot, and I'm very thankful to them. I just love the feeling when I get the new CD in my hands, but as I said, I can still feel it with the upcoming album(s?). It would be amazing to have CYHM and CiL as physical CDs, but I won't die without them.

I don't know about meaning of CiL, I'm not good to analyze anything but especially this part of chorus means a lot for me: "cry tears of joy, cos you're alive". It feels like with those words I can survive through all adversities in my life. They also remind me of these lines: "If it's just one life we're given, one time you're living" (NENB), "At least I'm here, at least I'm free" (WDWDTL) & "Don't mourn what is gone, greet the dawn" (Dawn).

@ Redbossfan: I'm not a fan of falsetto either, because usually the singer's voice is only higher and very shrill - which is The Foreboding's opinion ".... sounds awful when it goes wrong..."

Marko's voice has still this beautiful resonance. I wish I could explain it better in English but I'm not sure if I could explain it very well in German
I think Claudia came very near with "...so very masterly modulated...".

What Poets song I'm listening to depends on how I feel and so I always listen to songs that fit my mood right at this time.
I think CiL was the first song that was able to switch my mood and that is something very comforting.

About the lyrics: It's always like it is with Poets of the Fall. For everyone it means something different depending on the situation in life and on personal experience.

I noticed that the beginning of CiL is in past tense: .... Told me I'll never be alone ... You were my beacon of salvation, I was your starlight .... etc.
But the refrain and in the end it's in present tense:
... So with the fire still burning bright, I wanna gaze into your light ....

I think, this is the reason why I am sad and happy at the same time while listening to it and for sure it is the music and the voice that give me these feelings.

Thank God no mainstream but a beautiful piece of art.

There's this one thing concerning the chorus, apart from the fact that this is obviously love song, I noticed I tend to concentrate mostly on the chorus while listening cause it reminds me... it's like I said earlier "lifetime of love". Maybe it's because of that "cradle" thing but this gives me that feeling: we are loved unconditionally and protected as children (at least in "perfect world") then we are loved dearly by our friends, we start our own families and so on... and even if in that particular moment we happen to be alone we should remember there always is/was that someone for us in the world and if we go on maybe we'll meet again... at least I like to believe that and the song reminds me of that. Feels warm and safe.

Explaining feelings with words is not so easy... but I thought I'd share.

Funny, until this thread I have always avaoided interpretations. Mainly because many of the songs have a very personal meaning for me and I don't like to take that apart. To me, disecting lyrics can kill a song so I usually stay away from it. Also, as many others have said here, I find it difficult to put my feelings into words. With CiL it is different, because it does not hit me emotionally like some other songs do so I can take a step back and look at it from different angles. I must say this has been very intersting, maybe I should do this more often. So thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts, you gave me so many new perspectves on this song.

When I read this, I immediately thought of a few songs that made me cringe, because they just sounded wrong. Not the case here. I think it's amazing how Marko does not only manage to sing that high, but still make his voice sound full and strong. Many other singers fail right there - even if they manage to hit the high notes, their voice loses power.
(Am I the only one who really wants to hear the Poets cover Queen at least once. *cough* Bohemian hapsody * cough* - yeah, I know this belongs in the "covers..." thread.)

Falsetto is little too much for me. I cannot handle this Sigur Ros style of singing, I just get the image of balls getting stuck on zipper or something.

Don't get me wrong, I've cried like a baby when listening their stuff while driving - and karaoking (when hopefully no one notices, at least anyone I know or care) - but new single will implode my sympathetic nervous system eventually. It's like some sonic weapon from future.

Too much falsetto for me. I do feel the intention to do a "sweet" song (and this feeling's bad for me), and the result is that it seems to have been written for teenager. Ok the "poetry", but...i don't like this new single. Well, we'll see next songs.

I've actually been hoping Marko would sing longer parts through with falsetto because he can really use it and it does work out well IMO.........

Another feature I like in the song is the vibrating sense created by the Clevermind-like support guitars coming in for the 2nd chorus and the rhythmic keys..... Also the little echo in the end, the TT way of ending a song pleases one's ear............

The lyrics look like classic Poets on the first glimpse but I'm gonna need more time to think to look for the possible mind twisters....... Well, maybe more of those will show up at the release of ToT.............................................................................................................
