@Porthos13 @DanceOfFlame, thank you so for appreciated it so much! :)

@VesQ, I totally agree with you!! :mrgreen:

@Flyra, welcome to ALCHEMY club! I'm really happy for you! :D

@Half Light: for you it's just a CD-cover... for me it's more than this and yes, it's just like an archaeologic discovery! Because what is represented in is concerning some of my personal interests and my philosophy of life; and finding that into a creation of my soul mate in music, if you please, it gives me an incredible emotion that, I can understand, isn't comprehensible by everyone, cos not interested in such matters. I just gave some possible interpretations of what is, for me, a "beautiful mind" opus, which caught my interest... :mrgreen:
And I'm completely agreed with Porthos13... as much as I know, Poets give all their got in everything they do, CD-cover included, so to say "it's a CD- cover" it sounds like it's nothing important and for me this is a bit reductive... :roll:
And if someone is able to see pink elephants in Poets artwork, I absolutely wanna know him/her, cos that person is really "someone special"!! :wink:

@Porthos13!! I'm ready to have ALCHEMY party and to drink!!! When does the party start?? :mrgreen:

@claudia72, You're welcome! :)

I must say, for me each CD cover has a story to tell and is full of symbols. They reflect Poets' world". I'm sure the amount of work they put in all that they do is beyond what we can imagine... passion can be felt in each of their creations... in my opinion :)

@ Claudia I agree with you! You know that already, don't you? We're on the same wavelength, on which we are riding through Poets world :)

@Half Light ...And when it comes to elephants we are in good company, I think ...

The link leeds us to the evidence :wink:

Okay, and now to our party:

Claudia, DanceOfFlame

We start when ever we like ... insert DVD or CD into player and after that it's OPEN END. Yeah! Let's party until we see some pink, violet or blue elephants :P

Hmm, if Marko himself is seeing them already, then it won't take long until we see them on a cover :D

Where? :shock: Do you speak about carousel-horse which can be found in the carnivals? :P

Sad news about Alchemy :( But you know, it's a compilation, so it isn't so much 'popular' like albums.

My Alchemy arrived yesterday, all safe and sound! 8) I'm so glad I can watch all the videos without having to wait for YouTube to load. :P The extra production stills were great to watch, too.

Oh, too bad!! But I'm quite sure this is not ALCHEMY End, but just ALCHEMY Beginning... :wink: You'll see... Tomorrow will be a better day for ALCHEMY! :mrgreen:

ALCHEMY Vol 1
- ABOUT THE SONGS

Five from Sign of Life, three from Carnival of Rust, two from Revolution Roulette, three from Twilight Theatre and two new singles.
Five songs from the first album could be a predictable choice, even if with Poets nothing is so predictable, for me at least, having still so much to learn about them... Late Goodbye: to be honest is not among my super-favorite ones, but live is really great. Lift: just one of my super-favs! Simply incredible, I just adore that reef (is it the right word?)! And Poets almost discared it from the album??! "MAD MEN"!!! Illusion & Dream: beautiful, lyrics takes you at first hearing; I'd like to know exactly the reason why Poets found their inner voice as musicians with this song... Stay: short lyrics, but so effective, useless to say my favorite line is "It's little things... that make the world."; and I apreciated very much the fragment of memories about this song, I started learning that lesson around nineteen years ago, this learning is going on, to a deeper level now... My adored Sleep! The piano, "that" voice, so warm and in a so delicated singing, that in a final "crescendo" wraps you in a so protective embrace... How much this song would has been comforting in past! I wouldn't felt so alone in those tears-wet nights... I didn't expect such a fragment of memories, actually... Carnival of Rust: my "galeotto" with Poets! A no-time and no-dimension song, infinitely beautiful and, as I already said other times, a Poets' creativity&mastery symbol-song. Locking Up the Sun!!! How much I love this song!! I put it as my "political views" on my FaceBook profile, I get totally mad for this song: music, melody, lyrics, GUITARS!! And my answer to memories' fragment is :"WHAT??!"... Oh Roses! Adorable Roses... it has been the second Poets' song I heard, after listening to this song I realized I had to check out this band, absolutely! Her "rural" taste gets you immediately and leads you to a love-path of fullcolored and nature-scented images... This is one of those POTF songs that let on me a sweet smile and a sense of interior peace/calm... There's a thing I really love in Roses, it's the way Marko "drags" (sorry but just don't know to explain it in a better way) his voice in the words: dying, sky, try... The Ultimate Fling: great reef and fantastic guitar solo in the final, I like so much two moments of final part of this song: "Did I act like a fool (...) everytime you died." and "Can you gimme a reason, (...) I know what's the deal.", in their own totality... And Poets really had time in their hands, if they have been able to write such great song (and the beautiful Fragile) at a backstage of a show! Diamonds for Tears: great rythm, great lyrics, all the power of feelings comes out through music and melody and by transport of Marko's "interpretation". Funny the fragment of memories about this song! Dreaming Wide Awake!! What a dream! WHAT A DREAM!!! An unstoppable power river in flood of energy and emotions!! Expressing all desperation for the lost of "something" so precious and unique, to which you never resign yourself... When I finally discovered Poets, entering in this official site, this song was already released as new single and I realized I found my favorite band ever... And if from live song writing improvisation comes out such a powering product, then welcome to improvisations!! War: beautiful, I love music's "stateliness" in this song. Pretty hard to separate it from Alan Wake, sometimes I forget War hasn't been written purposely for that subject... When I remember it, I read deepness and complexity of a relationship that sometimes comes to a dualism that only a strong and deep feeling is able to overcome... At least that's what I see through the lyrics... Given and Denied: awesome and of such a grace and harmonious, with an unpretentious elegance. Listening to this song I imagine an old lord sit in front of a twilight sight on the sea, representing the time of his age, thinking on his (long) ending life, conscious of some things can't be lived again and other ones got lost forever; with a last nostalgic look to the time gone by of his youth... A so "thoughtful" song all, in its making too, if this is its eleventh version, indeed! And now the two new songs. Can You Hear Me: I already posted a comment for it in its own thread; this song has been a delayed-action bomb, for me! And when "exploded", it revealed all its beauty, its being so touching, deep and pure in its own meaning... A perfect POTF song, new in sound, "puzzle" in lyrics, a treasure disclosed by its video too, really awesome in its own simplicity... And my last huge love No End, No Beginning: what can I say? I'm totally in love with this song... I have no words to express what merging of emotions She makes me feel... I listen and re-listen to Her to infinite, completely hypnotized by her music, her melody, her lyrics... which, once again, seems to be fitted so perfectly in my life... I don't know... I really don't know how it's possible to create such a wonder and enchantment... I just can say thanks to Poets of the Fall, once again... :oops: :roll: :)

@Claudia,

When you wrote: "My adored Sleep! The piano, "that" voice, so warm and in a so delicated singing, that in a final "crescendo" wraps you in a so protective embrace..."

You put into words the emotion that I feel each time I listen to this heavenly song.

Your comments on other songs are so heartfelt, so true, so touching... It's a real talent being able to express with words what is felt deep inside one's heart. :roll:

wow Claudia, thank you for writing all this interesting and heartfelt analysis ^^
I was going to write some "Hey, I agree with this about this detail", or "hey, i thought this too", but then after some lines I realized it'd be a way too long (and useless) list.... so I'm just saying that I really loved reading this :)

@ Claudia:

You did it once again or should I say like every time? You have the wonderful talent to put feelings into words. I sat here infront of my computer screen and nodded the whole time in agreement. Thank you, sweet sister, for your very special Alchemy review. :)

Hmm, looking at charts, one artist caught my eye: Jenni Vartiainen and her album Seili. Damn, it's been 50 weeks in the charts, and it's number 6! I guess Poets of the Fall's record is about to fall... :(

Edit: Wrong week! This week it's gone, among with Alchemy :( So sad to see POTF album falling so fast...

Well, the chart doesn't really tell the whole, absolute truth about the sales or success. It only includes the sales from some Finnish music stores and supermarket/department store chains. It doesn't include sales from POTF shop or cdon.com for example, which are also places where a lot of people buy music from. I think the reason for that is that most webshops also deliver outside Finland, and so it would too much trouble to take statistics on how much of the total has been sold to Finland :)

really? I thought sales from webshops were counted in charts :?
It's delivered abroad but it's 'bought' in Finalnd, isn't it?

At the bottom of the album chart webpage there's a list of the shops that are included in the chart statistics. http://www.ifpi.fi/tilastot/virallinen-lista/albumit/2011/15
It says the following:
Suomen Virallinen Lista kerätään seuraavien liikkeiden ilmoittamiin äänitemyyntitietoihin:
Which translates to English as:
Finland's Official Chart is put together from record sales data of the following shops:

And then there's the list of the shops. POTF shop is not included (or any band's own webshop), nor is cdon.com and I'm sure at least a few others too are missing from it. Not to mention all the places that sell digital albums.

@DSoL:

so we are in a real dilemma: if we buy it in Finland in those shops we "push" the rates up (but who could really affort to travel for it to Finland :?: )... if we buy it from the PotF shop the boys get the money but it doesn't' count. :o

I always was wondering how we could raise the CD quotes in Germany, but we really can't do it because most of us buy the CDs when they are released and so we have to buy it in the PotF shop because we can't wait until they come out in our country.

Actually I think that statistics never tell us about the real data...

Those statistics are for Finland only, it does make sense why they don't count webshops. Say, if you live in Germany and order a CD from webshop, it would make sense to count that purchase towards German charts, not Finnish (even if it's shipped from there). And of course recording every sale and attaching it to the charts of buyer's country would be too much work.

Or am I overcomplicating things here?

The music and the message it carries is far more important then the chart position, don't you think?

Just heard a radio station playing No End, No Beginning which is a great thing in my opionion. No end, no beginning just, in my opinion, has a more appealing style to become a radio hit if we compare it to Can You Hear Me.
