Well, as the title says. I got my SoL vinyl today! Arrived in great condition in the UK this morning, I had a quick listen but I'll have to wait until I finish work at 6 before I can goose it properly.
A tasty binge!

Listening to the remastered vinyl edition of Signs of Life feels like a breath of fresh air! That's my first impression. Almost like listening to SoL for the first time ever, again.

Really nice remastering by Pentti Dassum. Very balanced, sounds fuller and more fleshed out. Even Don't Mess With Me sounds OK, not as harsh as before - the only song I never liked that much from the SoL CD.

I would also say DMWM is my least favourite on the album.
The lyrics are a bit too cheesy for me I think. :D

Cheesy? Really? Funny, it does not feel cheesy to me at all. Now Fragile, that could be considered cheesy. ;) I alsways find it interesting how tastes differ. DMWM is one of my favorite tunes on the album.

On topic: I still hav enot gotten mine, but hey, I could not play it anyway.

Still ain't got time to listen to it... :(
About DMWM: it's one of my favourites, definitely!

I got my copy today. Seems I did chose the slow delivery option after all.

Oh my it looks so beautiful I don't want to unwrap it. Now how to get that to a concert inone piece to get it signed?

Yeah, mine looks pretty much the same.

I asked if the band could sign it in the 'special instructions' part of the PayPal order form. They didn't. :(
It sometimes works. I can get CDs signed by Travis Dickerson if I buy from his site. Same with John5.

Not 100% sure if I understand what you mean, but the guys don't personally mail any merchandise, nor see any order forms or similar (in fact, they live several hundred kilometers from the warehouse where the stuff is stored & shipped from). So personally signing CDs (or vinyls :)) would take some effort...

^Yeah, I kind of guessed.
When I said Travis Dickerson I should explain that he runs the record label, as well as plays on a lot of the CDs his label releases. It's called TDRS Music and he also is Buckethead's main label so I get loads of CDs from him directly and the profit goes straight to him and Buckethead. :)

Still, a signed, rare limited edition vinyl of SoL would be a pretty nice thing to own.

Man, if I could afford one of these vinyls, I'd pipe the audio straight to flac and never play the real thing again. :)

^Why don't you just copy the CD to FLAC?
I know people will disagree, but I think CDs have MUCH higher quality than Vinyl. And there are no crackles or pops.

CD is binary data, so a continuous smooth sound wave is roughly approximated as a jagged wave. A vinyl on the other hand, is an actual imprint of the music sound wave.

To read a vinyl, you pass a needle passing over the surface, and the up-and-down motion of the needle generates an electrical signal in the same shape as the sound, which is fed straight to the vinyl-player speaker. Every time the vinyl is played, the surface becomes more and more deformed as the needle runs over the sound wave imprints.

So, being a bit of a perfectionist, I'd just play the vinyl once and record the sound directly into my PC, so I don't damage the vinyl, but also get a really good sounding audio.

...

Apart from the pops and crackles. :)

So the CD is probably better. You're right. Sorry, I'm rambling. :)

Is the 'approximation as a jagged wave' something the human ear can actually hear?
(and aren't albums recorded & mixed using digital devices too? - pardon my ignorance ^^)

Mine will be sent to a friend in Finland where I will stay next week. But it hasn't arrived yet. *sigh
Oh oh! I hope nothing has happened to the package.

Some people claim to hear it. Some people just rest easy to know it's a more true form. And you're quite right with the digital device point..

^I don't believe people can hear the difference.
By the time people care enough about it, and have the money and equipment necessary to distinguish the two, I reckon their ears will not be able to detect such tiny frequency changes. After like the age of 15 your ears start deteriorating.

Like people who claim to be able to hear the difference between a 700kbs+ MP3 compared to FLAC. There is a cutoff point somewhere but some people just want to make sure in case something happens. :D
