Honestly, this is a really, really, really difficult question to answer. It's impossible to choose just one. The first song I heard was Carnival of Rust, so of course it's very important to me - almost sentimental even. I think instead of choosing just one song, I'll list all my favorites and explain briefly how I relate to each one:

Carnival of Rust - Like I said, though unfortunately not my favorite (close, though), this song has sentimental value because it introduced me to this amazing band I had been completely in the dark about for six years.

Stay - During this past school year, I listened to this song constantly on repeat on my way to and from school. I don't know why, but it always put my mind at ease because my school is very stressful and I don't handle stress well. This song helped me get through long nights of coffee-drinking and essay-writing. It has a really calming melody and soft, yet strong vocals that are gentle enough for late nights. The lyrics are also really motivational to me, for some reason. But I guess that's the way it is with all of POTF's songs. :D

Roses - I'm not sure why this song is so nostalgic to me. Not to be completely blunt, but this song reminds me of a beautiful, zen-like rose garden. It's really special to me because when I was a child, my old house had a huge, overgrown flower garden with tons of rosehip bushes (trees?) which really attracted me (and the bees). I used to be very psychic - more than I am now I believe, though I think all children are naturally more psychic than adults...that's a whole other post entirely... Anywho, whoever's reading this will think it's absolutely absurd, but I actually used to find and play with balls of energy that I found in this garden. Call them "chakra balls", "spirit balls", "energy orbs", whatever...I used to be able to see and actually manipulate them. Strange, huh? Anyway, this song is hugely reminiscent of that strange experience that all children seem to have had at one point or another. Plus, I really just love this song. It's that simple.

Late Goodbye - I've never played, nor have I seen Max Payne, and to be completely honest, I have no idea what the film and video games are about. Some of you may have realized by now that I'm really interested in parapsychology and...well to be kind of blunt again...ghosts. I don't care if people think I'm a freak for believing in the paranormal. I know I'm not crazy because I've seen, heard, felt, and experienced the paranormal, specifically in my old upstate New York house. This song has a really dark, "minor-key", almost noir sound that is strangely reminiscent of well...the paranormal and all the history behind haunted locations. I live in a really haunted area of the United States and well, this song just...fits. (Plus, if you live in an area with tons of deer like I do, you know what it's like to drive in rural locations at night).

Illusion and Dream - Well first of all, let me start out by mentioning that I absolutely LOVE the acoustic guitar at the beginning and the strings as well - (thank you Olli and Captain). This song is a perfect description of my life, I'm not even kidding. Seriously - I feel like I had Marko's mind in a past life (or at least I wish). I also love the guitar solo at the end. As Guy Fieri would say, it's "dynamite".

Sleep - OK, I'm not going to joke around with this song, simply because it's too perfect and delicate to interpret. It's a lullaby...and since I'm a total insomniac with anxiety problems, this song has helped me fall asleep all year. Thank you, Marko.

Locking Up The Sun - This is kind of a random one, but aside from being a great rock song, it helps me to believe the POTF are just as eco-conscious as I am. Now don't yell at me for interpreting this "the wrong way". I'm not saying it's the only way of interpreting the song, I'm saying it's ONE way, and certainly not my only way either. I love the "it's a bad trip on a sinking ship where no one seems responsible...scapegoat to rock the boat yeah we need someone expendable...volunteers to face their fears, can't we be sensible and find a way to break the fall...find out the cure for all..." verse. It would be really ironic if POTF knew about the impending BP oil crisis when they were writing this a few years ago. Anyway, to me this song is about spreading awareness and taking action when it's truly needed, and right now, well...hopefully you get the idea.

Rewind - Because I wish I could do this past year over again. It's that simple. Plus I love this song with a passion. It's beautiful..."rewind I wanna play it again...and again...and again..."

Given and Denied - Because I feel like I wasted a lot of my adolescence being sick and depressed, and all I want to do is get it back. I want my innocence. I do wish to dream again (without dreaming about work). And personally, I think it would be pretty awesome to play in that orchestra that doesn't produce any sound. I wonder if Marko knows about John Cage's "4'33"...just a thought.

OK I think I went OVERBOARD a little bit (ugh love that song to pieces...haha no pun intended...). But honestly, at the end of the day, POTF are all I have. Thank you to the six most genius musicians in the world. :)

"War" is the song that describes my life and relationship with Poets. It is also the only thing that has made me emotional in a long while. I hadn't cried for at least three years but then I saw and heard it live... These were the tears of recognition and understanding.

I feel a similar way too for that song:
"When I thought that I fought without a cause, you gave me a reason to try"
as cheesy as it may sound, their music has given me a lot of help when I needed it... a reason to try.

Funny how I relate some of their lyrics just to how I feel about their music. Another example is Lift's chorus: it says exactly how I feel when listening to potf

I think many of us have this similar relation/feeling about the POTF lyrics,I had those nice feelings about some of their songs:

Save me
I'm my own worst enemy
Running headlong to the wall cos I want my freebie

So I'll seek you out, just to find myself
And I'll worry 'bout consequences later
I hear you out, till I hear myself
Hear myself in you

Without you I'm nothing at all
And life has the face of a morbid game

and yes..as well as 'War' :)

I agree with Change. It's my absolute favourite from TT and touches each time from the inside.
Oh, this is a hard choice. The songs of PotF are like little pieces of my mind and personality and only together they make a whole.
But, to be honest, I see myself mostly as Miss Impossible.

I know what you mean, every song has a reflection on your life itself, its amazing how POTF does that... But my 'emotional mood' right now is the song Change, it will change by the week I guess... :P

Well, some of my favorites are Where Do We Draw The Line, Given and Denied, Carnival of Rust, Delicious, Sleep, and pretty much every other song. I listen to Sleep whenever I'm struck with insomnia, which is really quite frequent I'm a horrible insomniac. (Sorta why I'm doing this at 4:30 in the morning).
However, the Poets' song that I am ..... It's hard to decide because I can relate to all of them, but Clevermind describes my life pretty well. Well, it at least my relationship with my father which got to the point were I just needed to get away and start over. Which is why these parts especially apply:

The moments gone, there's no surrender
Forever now unsaid
The words that might've warmed December
Cos it's all inside your head
Like fragments of a dream you remember

Time isn't made for waiting
Past isn't worth debating

Feeling like a fool again
Just need a new direction
a new beginning , a new beginning
I can't hold back and I can't hold on
It's all about gratification
See me running, see me running

Another one that's a bit "me" is All The Way / 4U. Most this one little bit:

Seems to matter what I say, so I'll hold my tongue at bay
And rather use my mouth to kiss your frown away

This really applies, my tongue can be rather ... sharp, but when I care for someone I really do try to, ah, hold my tongue at bay. And I'm very happy to kiss a frown away!

Again, it's really impossible to pick a Poets' song that is me. That's why I love them so much, the lyrics and meaning are so universal that pretty much every song is applicable in some way. Well, I've gone way overboard (haha) with this, and I could go on and say something I love about every Poets' song, but that would take awhile so I'll just end it here.

It used to be "Illusion and Dream"... a lot of words accurately described my feelings towards the world at the time.

But now it has got to be "Change"... that seems to be the only constant in my life! :P

Given and Denied is myself. The very first time I heard the first lyrics it felt like it came from inside.

Carnival of Rust, pretty definitely...
It was the first song I ever heard from the Poets, and it is the most beautiful song that I ever heard as well. It lies very deep in my heart, the amazing music and lyrics, and also when they played it on their gig in Germany this year as an encore, something very uplifting happened (: This song reminds me of so many good and hard times, it's definitely what I would answer to this question... Even though each of their song involves features of me, I feel... but if everyone here says so, the Peots' songs must be made of many human characteristics put together. Hmm.. This is probably even true :D

Guess "Fragile" could be the song, which represents me (at least a part of me) :

"You've been bullets all these years, I know there besides yourself, choking back tears
And you aced avoiding possibility, when you made your bed upon the bittersweet (...)

Cos the love you used to feel is still in there, inside
It maybe a faded photograph, the lock of hair, don't hide..."

THAT'S ME

"(...)Now don't you worry, no need to be sorry, there's still time to step lightly/ life will carry, just take it slowly (...)

If you're scared, I'm here to hold you,
if you get lost I'm here to guide you and I give you peace when peace is fragile..."

THAT'S ME WITH MY DAUGHTER

'sleep' ..

that song's helped me lately to wake up from a nightmare and sleep again..
i dont know how many times i listened and i will..

these sentences make me sleep in peace

Sleep, sugar, let your dreams flood in
Like waves of sweet fire, you're safe within
Sleep, sweetie, let your floods come rushing in
And carry you over to a new morning

The Beautiful Ones or Maybe Tomorrow is a Better Day.

Roses and 3AM are also ones that I had obsessions over for a while, like listening to each one 10 times in a day. :D

WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE

The dance of flames and shadows in the street
Make poetry nobody's ever heard
The weight of loneliness stands on your feet
The cage already there around the bird

(...)

Whatever tomorrow wants from me
At least I'm here, at least I'm free
Free to choose to see the signs
This is my line

That's me...
