:!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:
I've watched the "You Know My Name (Studio Live) video about a 200 times now !!!!!

This song, whilst a cover tribute to Chris Cornell's original, should definately be on the next album list !!!!!! It is a brilliant cover version & one of the best I have ever heard. I even think in many aspects it's better than Chris's version. :!:

C'mon POTF get it on the list !!!! :)

It's actually in an album already. You could buy it from here:

It's actually the best cover of a song I have heard. And that comes from a Chris Cornell fan!

The original, done for Casino Royale, written and performed by Chris Cornell, is the best Bond song ever. There are other good ones, but this one is by far the best.

Then add POTF and change it up a bit and then there is the best cover song!

Yeah, watch it all the time! 8)

Hey guys, something which I've wondered about for some time now is, is it only me or is the official You Know My Name video at the Poets' YouTube channel not available anymore? Whenever I try to watch it, the red bar telling me that it "isn't available" appears, this also happens with uploads from other channels. Has it deliberately been removed? Or is it YouTube with its copyright rules again? Nonetheless, it's indeed a wonderful cover of the original which I adore to bits. Makes you feel so cool when listening to it 8)

For some stupid copyright reasons, the video is not available in Germany.

Argh! Of course! That's always the case. And it's always just in Germany!
Glad to know though. I would have figured it's because of my country before, but if that is the case, they usually say "this video is not available in your country", this time they left out the latter. Lazy people.. :/

Yep, the copyright info of the video (only visible to the uploader) specifically states that it can't be watched in Germany. You can probably find it elsewhere though, just use Google. :)

I also know a cheeky thing called YouTubeUnblock. :D It's a bit laggy and has a low quality when watching videos through this though, but it works at least!

:D As I mentioned before, I still think this would be a great "Bonus Track" option for any new album that POTF might be working on.... I love it ! it is such a great cover !.

Generally is difficult to find a band that can perform other's artist work in a decent way...I have to say that the version of the Poets of the Fall is even better than the original....

A song suitable for a live DVD, maybe. On its own - original version better for me. Poets made too similar arrangement, i wish it had more variety - more electronic or more acoustic...

It's essentially a live version, and making it more "electronic" doesn't really work with that...

You say it like the band never uses synths and vocal filters, hehe.
I know i'm late to the party, but is it ever possible to know whether that song is all one take or it's been mixed from several takes?

I mean that when you go to a single room and play a song from the beginning to the end with the whole band, that's a totally different approach than working in the studio, several takes or not. Of course you could do lots of things to the live recording after the fact, re-record everything and replace drums with a drum machine and mangle vocals with crazy effects and so on, but somehow that wouldn't be true to the "spirit" of the live performance. Or that's how I see it, anyway. (But you can actually hear lots of synths and programmed stuff in the song too. :))

hey take it easy, i didn't ask for an explanation what you can or cannot do live, did i?
just pointed out Poets almost copied the song note-to-note, word-to-word.
do you disagree it could benefit greatly from more thoughtful reworking?

update: thank you Admin for correcting the topic's title

They pretty much had to do it like that. You are allowed to record a cover of a song only if you don't change the lyrics and arrangement too much. If you do, it's not a "cover" any more but something different (don't know what that term is in English), and then the whole thing is different from the perspective of copyright laws. You might end up paying something to the makers of the original, and of course that's not an option for a small indie band. That's at least how it works in Finland. I know they had some discussion about how much they can change the original.

Anyway. The point I was trying to make is that what you are hearing is not really a "Poets of the Fall's version of the song". That's not how they normally make music. What you hear is what happens when you throw all six of them in a room, roll the tape, and record whatever they are playing, with live instruments (of course they had done some arrangement work and practicing beforehand, but I'm exaggerating a little :)).

Had they made the version in the studio, like they normally do, with almost unlimited time and all the wonders of technology at their disposal (and a permission from the copyright holders to change the song more than that), I'm sure the end result would have been much different.

(Besides, it's far from a note-to-note copy... the key is different for starters, the vocal melody is different in places, the whole C part and the song ending are totally different in arrangement and structure, many guitar riffs are new, and so on. But I understand these things can be discussed to the end of the world and are ultimately matters of opinion. :))

Admin, at the very least, could you correct the topic's title, it hurts to read with missing letter n, thanks in advance.

Yeah, true. :) Fixed!

Oh, didn't mean to offend in any way. I don't consider it a part of Poets' catalogue.
I wrote it's too similar because i held in my hands Cornell's album booklet and the song followed exactly word by word, and i tend to pay more attention to lyrics before instrumentation.
