Do you have an iPod or iTouch? If so put the earbuds in and turn the song up real loud when the song gets to that refrain and really concentrate........

I did that and so did a couple of other people that I spoke to here and each of us heard something different! Now that is fantastic!!! :D That is what makes POTF so amazing...each phrase can say something different to each of us.

This band has the most amazing lyrics and awesome music apart from any other band I know of! Maybe that is why I listen to them the most  .

I have a similar question. In 15 min Flame, when line "Who was it who wanted every sec of the flame" is repeated, what's the voice saying in the background (That's at least what I hear, words)? Is there a discussion about this that I haven't found?

I still don't get it... sounds always too strange for me

That's probably whil this thread put such a big smile on my face. It's always interesting to see how others view the lyrics.

That's what I think too. A lot of the times poems contain a lot more in just their literal meaning of words stringed together. So many memories from English literature class. :P

It's not that weird, maybe poetic like redbossfan said:

And it's bending your will like a willow tree twisting

One of my favorite POTF lines. It's so down-to-earth and... Um... Poetic! :D

I couldn't agree more!! :)

I really love the lyrics from Roses. To be completely honest, they are probably my favorite lyrics out of all the POTF songs to date. They are pure genius and really do make sense if you really think about them. The following lines really spoke to me, so they're not necessarily "strange", just really touching to me:

"Grow me a garden of roses...paint me the colors of sky and rain" - this line always manages to lift my mood...I love it...
"Without you I'm nothing at all, and life has the face of a morbid game"
"So when I'm crying alone, yeah when I'm cold as a dying stone"
"Show me the way and I'll try again"

I will never stop loving this song. It honestly has to be my favorite POTF song. <3

Maybe the thread should be called "most interesting POTF lyrical phrases" or something. Of course the phrases aren't "weird" but that is what the title of the thread is. I love the phrases and words used in their songs and love finding some that are fun to share.

Maybe time to move on.

As a scientist I have to point out this line from Miss Impossible:

"a parallel perpendicular"

It really makes no scientific sense :P

I rarely make sense. What's the point?

The point is to be understood :P Of course if that isn't one's intention, why bother :P

OT: Also started wondering about this line:
"The child wants to know if the candyman can."
from Sorry Go 'Round

I don't care whether I am understood or not, so I write what I want. What if I only want to write for my own amusement? No one has to read it. Therefore I bother to write it whether it would be understood or not simply for my own amusement and if one person understands it then that makes two of us.

People sometimes read things they don't understand all the time even though it is the author's intention for them to understand what has been written.

So again, I don't worry about making sense. And no, it wasn't my intention.

I think he's referring to The Candy Man song from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory ("The candyman can cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good"). They already referenced the movie in CoR video.

Thanks Donna, haven't watched the film so naturally I never got that reference before :)

@Snow
Well, I know we are all different, but my experience has taught me that life is better when you share it with others, so I wouldn't want not to make sense (well, I often don't make sense, but I wouldn't want to never make sense and only amuse myself :) )

@Donna

I know that song! I believe Sammy Davis Jr (an older singer who has passed a while back, I think) sang it a lot. I know this cause my parents had his record :D I did see that movie and I think I remember them singing that song......been a while and I have a bad memory though.

@Vlad

Sorry to sound so pissy when I wrote the above comments. You are a nice person and I should not post on the board when I am in a bad mood and unfortunately it lasted a couple of days.

I thought this thread was fun when we were all first posting fun lines from the songs' lyrics, but then it got a bit serious and misconstrued and I should have opted out when I said I was going to instead of replying to your post.

With poems, well they are from the writer's point of view and maybe those that read it won't like it or understand why a person wrote it, so I suppose in that case it would be for my "amusement" or to clarify, for cathartic reasons.

So peace ok? :)

Of course, I never saw this as a "war" at all :) Opinions are opinions, and I agree that poems are surely writers' minds on paper, and often the beautiful thing about poetry is when two contradictions line up against eachother (as in the Miss Impossible example). I only posted the line cos I found it to belong among the weirdest phrase/sentence/line in a POTF song :P (or at least that I could think of at the time) :)

Hey opinions are opinions, like Vlad said. We all have them. This should be a thread to enlighten others with our personal experiences listening to Poets of the Fall. It should be a place for us to say "Hey that's an interesting line! ___ is how it affected me and I wonder why Marko used it. How did you interpret it?" and if you'd rather not listen to music like this, then that's fine too! :) Heck, half the time I don't even listen to the lyrics because I'm so absorbed in the actual music. But when I'm feeling inspired about the lyrics, sometimes I get curious. It's only natural. :P

@Donna

I was thinking about Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory too! I can think of some other POTF references to candy besides Sorry Go' Round:
-the album art for CoR
-the line in Delicious that goes "With a delicious dark appeal" (reminds me of dark chocolate whenever I listen to this song.)
-"candles on sugar icing" and "sweet talking, mesmerizing, juicy and appetizing" from Don't Mess With Me
-"sleep sugar" and "sleep sweetie" from Sleep

ahahaha I love Marko...

:D Well dang if I didn't miss that! I misconstrued the whole thing! Now that's funny cause the jokes on me!

I do love Miss Impossible! Great song!

So now I am posting some of the lines and stanzas that I love the most:

1. Shine through my memory like jewelry in the sun

2. Fall like a leaf in the wind on the ocean
Of blue like your eyes in the twilight theater
With symphonies playing in the world without sound

3. The dance of flames and shadows in the street
Make poetry nobody's ever heard
The weight of loneliness stands on your feet
The cage already there around the bird

Where's the cooling wind
Where's the evergreen field
Where's my mother's open arms
Where's my father lionheart
S'like the sun's gone down
Sleeps in the hallowed ground now
With the autumn's browns leaves
With the one who never grieves

Where Do We Draw The Line is one of the most beautiful poems I have ever read and I love the imagery........so dark and romantic (not in the love sense).

When first time I heard "Save me" I found these lines funny

Looking at myself in the mirror
Funny I should see only headlines and ads with my name
I was told I'd see my ally
So who are these skeletons with guns taking aim

But when i actually experienced something similar to this, I understood the depth of the words.

Maybe sometimes we find some weird or atypical phrases in POTF lyrics but these phrases have dark, deep and moreover realistic meaning.

Save Me is one of the songs I think of a lot. So much raw emotion and desperation:

If I wanna be the man
Should I open my wrist again
Would that make it excellent, yeah
If I wanna be the one
Should I book me an interview
To get an audition

Save me
I'm my own worst enemy
Running headlong to the wall cos I want my freebie
Save me
You're the only out I see
N' I need your love the most when I least deserve it

Gotta get a shot of something
Before I'll enter the ring
Gimme just a minute, just a minute

Those are my favorite stanzas@

A phrase from the song Miss Impossible (RR)

"A parallel perpendicular"

What a paradox!!!!
Love it 8)

Exquisite poetry in these lyrics (YSH) :

"Hold on to your memories of sundogs and rainbows, as time writes a premature eulogy
And I feel summertime passing in haste, like running out of patience

Quilted with knit and umbrellas and scarfs and a mild understanding of irony
I feel autumn leaving the race, all done with the exhilaration"

And in Someone special :

"A foggy morning greets me quietly today
I smell a fragrance in the wind blowing my way
And ever further I run to find her
I yearn to define my life
Placing my faith in chance to meet me in half way"

I love Poets

The tightrope walker take the final fall (at his house, in the bathroom, on a holiday, and that's in the news)
from Sorry go round. this is really a great and fancy song, but this particular line logically fails me XD
well, poetry isn't made to be perceived with logic is it?

i understand this one. let me explain
"truth will make a liar" mean someone is lying because they try to hide truth. so without truth, there can be no lies , because there are nothing to be hidden.

i thought this way too apollooo, seems like the Desire is compared to Truth, like when you kill desire you kill truth at the same time and no desire makes you liar.
