I am a tech challenged gamer myself and don't own an Xbox but I am headed to a friend's house soon after I get home and maybe his 12 yr old can show me how it's played. I don't even know how much an Xbox station costs.

I only saw Max Payne as a movie. I really like it especially the cinematography, oh ok and Mark Walhberg.

Bright Falls prequel is very nice. Kinda confusing at the start...

The only video games I play (and am actually good at) are the Sims 2 & 3 and Farmville. LOL! But my brother is a gaming expert and probably knows more about Alan Wake already than I do. (But I know more about POTF than he does, so HA.HA.HA. I'll show him.)

But yeah, I am dying to try Max Payne and Alan Wake. They both look like really complex, interesting games. Plus I love the dark, film noir theme they both seem to have. For now, though, I think I'll just stick to harvesting crops, building houses, and making sims. hahaha...

Ok I bought it today. Um.....no I am not good at it! :D Looks like I might have to practice and I got a guide book or something like that. I do love the graphics and once I did kill a bad "thing" it was stop action which is wicked cool! I love that effect!

So back to the drawing board and I should be on schedule to beat this game in the year 2012 when all matter in the universe is destroyed and converted back into energy. The good news is I will have beaten the game!

Snow, :D I can understand you. And the guide book cannot help if you're holding the joystick in your hands for the 1st time  But now it goes much easier and I have a lot of fun.

Hehe. Looks like Alan Wake got a lot of attention on these forums. That's nice. I've been following their development over at the Alan Wake Forums for five years. The game is excellent, and I love how Remedy once again included Poets of the Fall into their game (as an even bigger surprise than we first knew!).

I don't think the review from Wired does justice to Alan Wake. It's one of the few not so favourable reviews I've come across so far.

That's because they made the same mistake so many fans expecting a horror game did. Alan Wake isn't a horror game. Was never meant to be. It's more like a thriller about horror.

Alan Wake is pretty much basically the same as Twin Peaks. Not horror in any way, but still somewhat spooky, raises a lot of questions and generally thrilling from start to end.

I don't reget at all buying it.. i Haven't played game's for 12 years.. i bought it on 14th at 00.13.. And I became a geek over that night..

I Love the game!!! It's like a good tv-series.. Better then most of real tv-series.. Even though I have to move Alan.. I just wish could play it better.. Every time Taken's attack I get so scared that I point the camera to sky.. And I have to take every attack again and again.. (I also have to ask my brother to get me going.. ) And CE pack looks good too!

Thank you all for sharing info!! I'm happy to read that I'm not only one who likes it!

The LCE (Limited Collector's Edition... that is what you meant, right?) truly enhances the game experience. Remedy (and Microsoft) has gone long ways and put a lot of effort into making this great entertainment. First comes the Bright Falls series, which functions as a prequel (you can find them on YouTube). Then the game itself. And last (but not least) we have "The Alan Wake" files (comes with the LCE) that is written by another person investigating Alan Wake, taking place a year after the game itself.

When you go through all those things you really start to realize just how deep this story runs (and how far it stretches). I really hope they continue this already fantastic franchise and continue to expand it. :D

Now that I'm ready to finish the game, only one question: why so short? And I still wonder who was acted by the person credited Marko Saaresto. No surprise at all :D And Stobe as well.

Is it a crime to watch it being played on YouTube? I just saw Episode 1, looks promising...

Haha. A crime? No. A shame? Perhaps. It is best to play it yourself. ;)

Sadly, not all of us have Xbox. Damn, I've bought only for one game and don't regret... Arvigeus, you should feel it, trust me. The game is very atmospheric..

Yes, of course, not having an XBox present a huge problem. I was just saying it is better to play yourself. It is a shame that it is exclusive to the XBox. But... that's the hand we were dealt.

True, true... a shame. Microsoft has its money, one way or another ^_^ But I guess we should thank'em 'cos we can play AW here and now because of their money. Wicked circle :D Anyway, the only bad thing for me now is that AW was too short  *WE WANT MORE! WE WANT MORE!* And wish I could discuss it without any risk of spoilers. ^___^ But have to wait for the others to finish it... 8)

Well, you could always start up an "Alan Wake (SPOILERS!) Discussion Thread". ;)

I actually suck a lot on action games, so this saves me the effort of doing same things over and over again. Speaking of that, it's really annoying for me to see that the game save checkpoints are literally on almost every step.
One question (may contain spoilers):
Is War played twice in the game? I saw it was played on the radio once and the second time was at the end of the episode, but the guy playing it cut the recording and I'm not sure is the whole song played properly or just the beginning...

Answer:
War is completely played two times, in the radio and at the end of the episode.

The whole song is played properly - twice. The first time you hear it, as you probably noticed, is during the fight. If you wait until it's complete, well then you get the hear the whole song. And, it appears again at the end of the episode, and it is played properly there as well, as long as you let it play. There's always the option of cutting it short for those who are either a) impatient or b) playing through it for the n'th time, in which most of us tend to run through the game for various reasons (be it to find all collectibles and such). But yes, it is played properly. :)

Hope that answers it. :)

Edit: Noticed that the person above me answered before me. Oh well.

I was inspired and so decided to create some fan art. It's far too big to post here, so here's my dA gallery link: Heather's Wake

You mean how many hours did this take? I don't know. I worked on it here and there for about 3 days, the end being a 15-hr shift at work, and then about a half hour on Photoshop to burn and dodge (enhancing light and shadow) and smudge the Taken a bit.

:D Glad to know I am not alone in my frustration! I haven't played it in a few days....a lot of stuff going on for the long weekend and I think I might try it later.
