And they played DWA again on CityFM :D :D It's in their top40, as new entry (ranked 28 \o/) We can vote for it, so I'll vote like crazy to get it higher :D

You can vote here http://www.cityfm.ro/content/top-40-05-februarie-2010 But you have to create an account (it's free). It's all in Romanian :P But I can translate :)

Hmm, right now I see that you can't vote :? It says ''top 40 the 5th of February'' Weird, I don't get it.

I have a web page in Finnish, but my showreel is right on top of it so I'm sure you'll find it, http://oskari.welhofilmi.com/

I've also directed videos for Phoenix Effect: Broken Promises and King See No Evil, they can be found on YouTube.

About keying, I understand it's a joke but I'd just like to add that it's a very time consuming process and as such, it's also very expensive and difficult to do :) But yeah, it's possible, if you have the time and the talent to do it. We used a tiny bit of keying in this video, on the flower disappearing when the man reaches for it. That effect took about four hours to complete.

About working on chaos - Absolutely, it's a lot more freeing to work in a way that things don't have to be linked to each other. We did something of the like on Broken Promises, but took it a lot further this time. It's fun! It takes a special kind of a project to do, though.

By the way, could you post full cast & crew, not just these two guys? I think the other people that worked on this project also deserve to know their names... :)

Amazing! I love the video, it shows that a lot of time and effort was put into it, and I like the imagery in it a lot. It's nice that it feels more "real" than the other POTF vids, which are mostly more abstract than this :) Although I think I'll have to watch it a few more times to fully understand it, and my experience with POTF tells me this was created on purpose

I dream someday mr. Harju and mr. Sipola will collaborate together for a future POTF video. It will be great to see them fully working together. :)

You know, art is not democracy - putting two (or more) greats together when doing creative stuff does not mean the end result will be any better (could be just the opposite). Not to say it wouldn't be interesting to see what these two could do together, but there's a reason why movies and music videos usually only have one director.

Anyway I think this could born something beautiful. Like "keep it real" style of Oskari wrapped in some abstract layer from Stobe. Besides, POTF have the final word and will keep the balance between them. I don't mean that this ship needs two captains (no, no that Captain!)

Here's the "current version" of the lyrics (created by Gambit, and many others):

Dreaming Wide Awake

Too late, the melody is over
The joke seems to be only
‘Cause I’m the one who’s laughing
Down here on the floor
Deflate, the mystery of living
In the most heartless fashion I could ever imagine
No pretense or decoy

Chorus:
Another place and time
We got to break devine
And we could be flying deadly high
I’ll sell my soul to dream you wide awake

Another place and time
Without a warning sign
And we could be dying angels-like
I’ll sell my soul to dream you wide awake
I’ll dream you, I’ll dream you, I’ll dream you wide awake

With me, disaster finds a playfield
Love seems to draw dark twisted, pleasure tearing at me
‘Cause I can’t let you go
Mercy! Like water in the dessert
Shines through my memory like jewelry in the sun
Where are you now?

Chorus

It’s like I’m racing to the sun
The lighting face, the blazing ...
Is that the fate I will be left here without you?
That I can brace enough to run
You give me more when I have none
‘Cause I’m afraid I will be left here without you
I will wait, I will wait

Chorus

Edit: used suggestion from Elemental as it does sound like that, although mczolly's could also be right and would be the more fitting one. Maybe the line above is wrong?
Edit 2: I think it's "brace" in the meaning of "preparing"

The chorus is just insane. It's another well done job from PotF! :)

Actually, the correct lyrics (as printed in the single) are these:

SAREK wrote:
Too late, the melody is over, the joke seems to be on me cos I'm the one not laughing down here on the floor. Deflate, the mystery of living, in the most heartless fashion I could ever imagine, no pretense of decor.

Another place and time, without a great divide and we could be flying deadly high I'll sell my soul to dream you wide awake. Another place and time, without a warning sign and we could be dying angel style. I'll sell my soul to dream you wide awake.

I'll dream you ... wide awake.

With me, disaster finds a playfield. Love seems to draw dark, twisted pleasure tearing at me, cos I can't let you go. Mercy, like water in a desert, shine through my memory like jewelry in the sun. Where are you now.

Another place and time, without a great divide and we could be flying deadly high I'll sell my soul to dream you wide awake. Another place and time, without a warning sign and we could be dying angel style. I'll sell my soul to dream you wide awake.

I'll dream you ... wide awake.

It's like I'm racing to the sun, blindly face the blazing gun, cos I'm afraid I will be left here without you. Like I'm racing not to run, give more when I have none, cos I'm afraid I will be left here without you ... wide awake.

#1 reason being that most creatives don't like other people interfering with their vision, especially if it's very different from their own. But, you never know!

Was a bit disappointed about the song. The sound production is poorer than before, and together with the uninspired use of synth I think the song became quite flat, both in structure and sound. I liked the opening, the buildup, the lyrics, but it just doesn't sustain.
I miss the crystal clear acoustic sounds and innovative songwriting they had.

I liked the song, but my hopes were too high I guess. Atleast they can try to recapture their usually great sound production.

Well, it's pretty nice to hear the song on the radio again, though it's quality is even worse than that very 1st time. Marko sounds amazing, such a great voice, heh... this is my 1st time hearing him on the radio. I could even understand some words

LyricalScavenger, I'm agree with you but in spite of all this still love the song

Since this is the first POTF song ever with the whole band playing, there are actually very few synth sounds used. It could be you are thinking about the heavily effected guitars, which sound very synth-ish in a couple of places?

Each song calls for a different kind of approach, you don't put "crystal clear acoustic sounds" in every song just for the sake of it. Anyway, the album as a whole sounds to me much more acoustic than anything POTF has done before, so you acoustic-freaks should get what you crave. :P

I'm sorry Admin, but you can't please them all... Metal freaks will always complain it is too soft, acoustic freaks will always complain it is too hard. We had this discussion once when RR came out. I'm glad that POTF play what they love to play, not some commercial-bloated rock. As long as it sounds good to me, I will listen to them.
I think DWA is superior in every aspects than their previous work. My only critic for RR was that it was a bit... predictable (not a surprise, I still wounder how they did manage to record it in such short amount of time). This time it is clear that TT is going to be more complicated since they had recorded it for almost half an year. I just pray it will not fit in a single genre only :)
The only "bad" part of DWA is that the radio edit lacks of some really good parts.

I believe the background at 4 seconds and throughout the intro is synth (and 2:48 etc). I have no problem with synth per se, it takes as much creativity as everything else, and sounds awesome at the right places, as Poets is a good example of. I just think this didn't in particular don't sound very good, and was a little plain. Drums weren't awesome either. Perhaps this is their first shot at real drums recording, don't know. I think the instrumental part of chorus, for instance, is a bit flat. Note that I liked the song, but wasn't blown away in the same manner as with earlier songs.

I'll listen to it more and see if it can grow on me. Looking forward to hear the whole album.

First of all, I think admin can do without you excusing my opinion for him. For the record, i'm neither a metal freak nor an acoustic freak. I listen to music for what it is, regardless of genre. If I find the music interesting or not is down to case by case basis. And I just said that this wasn't the most intersting I've heard lately (although a fair song).

I hope they do. This song follows a not-all-original recipe, but hey. It's okay.

I suppose that this conversation is really interesting, although I can’t understand anything
I’m curious what mean something like “ni to to ni” (I don’t know how to write it in finnish) Marko says it in every interview I’ve heard…

This song has already gotten more radio play outside Finland than anything they have done before, so apparently they did _something_ right with it, like it or not. :) But DWA is maybe not a very typical song for the forthcoming album, which will have very interesting new things explored...

Yes, they did something right. They made a radio-friendly song. But generally though, as we all know, good music and radio isn't 100% correlated. Meaning, I wouldn't put that as a measure of musical quality. If it were, Britney Spears would be a musical genius  . Still I'm not one of those who hate music BECAUSE it is mainstream either. I've grown too old for that.

Can't wait :)
(And yes, I do love this band. They've inspired me like none other in the the past).

The song is awesome, no matter sounds it a bit flat or not... the video is brilliant, no matter Stobe wasn't it's director... that's the most important things for me. The last thing I'll do about the Poets is to judge them (performing, composing, producing) since they do their best to please us. I mean... they do REALLY good work. It means much for me. 8) Sorry, for such an expression... nothing new.

Just one more note about this since you mentioned Phoenix Effect in another thread: it was the same drummer, same drumkit, same mics, same studio, same recording engineer, same mixing engineer, same producer and same equipment that were used on PE's debut album as well as in DWA. OK, they maybe changed some wires and maybe not all mics were in the same positions :), but my point is that this was not definitely their first time with live drums. My guess is (again) that different songs require different approaches, and in DWA they simply chose to make drums sound like that in order to make the whole song work.
