I'd like you all to post here teh basics of what you know about the Falklands (or Malvinas) War.
I know that there are different sides of the story and this is no place for anyone from the UK, Argentina and/or anywhere else to post agressive comments, I just want to see what you've been taught about it, and how the versions of the story may differ (Well... I asume this is a common history topic in Argentina and the UK, but I guess it's also something people in general know about).

"I don't know anything about the Falklands War" replies are welcome as well :)

Thank you!

I've read that article and there are things missing, and in the spnanish article those things are there but there are other things missing.

That's why I wanted to see what story is told in other countries, so, if possible, if you read a wikipedia article read the one written in your native language.

I haven't read anything about it yet and as far as I remember it has not been taught in school. Waht I know is from a song by my favrite German band.

Aparently their lead singer was on vacation in Patagonia where he saw a monument/memorial for the falkland war. So he took one name on there and told a story o a young man wo died there. And the story of Basil Biggs who worked in a lighthouse and took the invadors in for a coffee.
The rest of the song of course is about war and dying and about people starting a war for the sole reason of deflecting from other problems in the country and getting draftees to fight it. Also about a country retaliating with too much force. So there - Falkland wars from the POV of a pacifists who believes all wars are evil (which is an opinion I share).

And now I will go off and read the wiki article.

Tell me about it. I've been a fan for over 20 years. And I'll see them live this Friday :)

Back to topic: I'm still not through with reading the article. Considering I had never heard of this war before I am surprised at the sheer amount of available information.

It was in the news here in the US. I was young, but mostly I remember comedians making jokes about it, more than the actual news stories. I was too young to appreciate the seriousness of it.

And, of course, this was well before September 11th, 2001, so our relationship with the UK wasn't as tight as it is now.

it looks like england think that we (argentina) have a mega army ready to strike the island, actually it doesn't left much remain of our army, military dictatorship leave a really bad impresion about the army, today the only country we could invade maybe MAYBE will be Uruguay

for those who don't understand what the hell i'm talking about, england want to start to extract petroleum from las malvinas and they have send a lot of reinforces to the island even a nuclear submarine I think
