Well, I love Germany, and I love German as well, so I guess you're right!

I´m Finnish so I speak Finnish. I can also do a bit of Swedish and German. English is like my mother tongue dispite the fact that I´ve never even been to a country where english is spoken. I´ve just always found it very natural to me, dunno why really!

I woudl love to learn Italien, Spanish and French at least. It would be cool to understand what they speak in Iceland as well, or Denmark. I´m starting my Russian courses next week so maybe I´ll learn that in time. :)

Ich spreche etwas Deutsches.

I had German in High School 23 yrs ago. I remember how to say my name, a common greeting, how old I am, my family members, my alphabet, my number up to 1,000, colors and some nouns. My sentence structure isnt very good. Some of my german friends on forum laugh at me.. but thats ok.. Ich liebe meine freunde. :D :D  :P

I speak Slovak (mother tongue), Czech (naturally), English (thank you, videogames) and a bit Russian (still learning).
I'm also learning German, but only because I have to.
I'd like to learn Japanese someday, but I don't know if I'll be able to get my lazy ass to actually do something about it. Maybe I'll just stick to the tiny bits I've caught from anime. :P :|

I speak Polish ( perfectly ), English ( learning ), German ( also learning ). I'd wish to learn Japanese in the future and Finnish. Why? Because I love Japan and I'd like to go there ( and make my dream ( that one where I meet Hideo Kojima :) ) true ). And Finnish for a well-known reason. That is languages that I am going to work on but if I could I want to known more languages, it just feels good when you can speak with someone from other part of Earth.

Native language is English, but I speak just a really little bit of German. I'd like to learn more; also to learn Suomeksi (so I could understand what's being said in all those video-taped interviews  ), Swedish, Russian, Spanish, and French.

Until I do learn all those languages (or at least a couple), I have to rely on this online translating program (I use it when I'm on Facebook and my friends post in their native languages):

I think they're quite different. Well, they're also quite close, but I can tell you that us Italians usually understand Spanish enough, while it's harder to understand something in Portoguese :?

I guess it's a bit like dutch vs german.. I can understand german pretty well, if I read it.. and if it's spoken only if they speak slowly xD

I don't know either language, but soundwise they are very different. My Portuguese colleagues says that Portuguese sounds like "Spanish spoken with potatoes in your mouth." :D

I'm from the Netherlands, so I speak Dutch... I can speak English (almost) fluently, and although I've had almost 7 years of education in German and French I'm not even nearly capable of speaking it... I've had four years of Ancient Greek, and I've been learning Latin for 6 years. I'm not any good with both of them, though.
I'd like to learn Italian and Spanish, and I'd like to get better with German and French, but school is somewhat lacking in that department.. ;)

No it's not...
It's pretty simple, especially if you had Latin in school...
But you'll have to practice a lot...

I found it very useful, because one I learned to speak Italian, Spanish and Portuguese were piece of cake..

Okay, thanks. :) I really would like to start studying a new language and my options are Italian, French or German. And I have decided to start studying Spanish, but it's only short course so I'm probably gonna take one of those three languages too.

Compared to your mother tongue any of these should be a piece of cake. I do admit that I never tried learning Spanish or French, but I learned a bit of Italian and it was nowhere near as complicated as Finnish is. The pronounciation could be tricky for you as in Finnish the emphasis in every word is on the first syllable whereas in Italian it is generally on the third but you'll get the hang of it. Plus a combination of Spanish and Italian should work well - they are similar.
German I heard is tough but can't say because I've been speaking it all my life. It still must be easier than Finnish ;)

if something is your mother tongue, it isn't complicated at all ;) you've grown up with it so mostly it's completely natural ^^
it's easier to learn italian/spanish if you live more near there; since the finnish language is derived from the vikingstuff, and italian/spanish from romans, they are very different.. and therefore harder to learn I think..

Well, German is neither "related" to Italian not to Finnish and I still think Italian is a lot easier than Finnish. Of course this might be different if I had spent all vacations of my childhood in Finland and not in Italy. ;)

I'm surprised there are people who know some Italian... I thought it was more unusual. And I also thought it would be hard to learn, but everybody who's been studying it told me it's not difficult.
German I've been studying for some time years and years ago; it's not hard (too bad then for over 8 years I've had no chance to either study again or practice, which is a shame :( ), and in my opinion is a beautiful language :)

I've been told something like that too.. then I guess the sounds are a bit different, but the two languages must be similar :)

Don't know if it is unusual in other parts of Germany, but where I grew up we had a large Italian cummunity. Many workers came from Italy in the 1960ies and their children or grandchildren even went to school with me. I had Italian classmates all my life and my school was offering Italian as a language choice along with the more common French or Latin. Unfortunately I chose Latin back then and tried to learn Italian at university later. Gave up because I was too lazy. Still, one day I'm sure I'll get back to it as it is a language I really like. :) So far I cannot do more than order food, ask for directions and maybe ask for a room at a hotel.

Right now though I am trying to learn Finnish and I somehow don't think I can master two new languages at the same time....
