Hey peeps!

I've seen stories like these in various topics, so I thought it might be a good idea to gather them in one single topic here in this section. That way we can keep ourselves up to date  and it might also serve for some inspiration for the active street teamers.

My own most wonderful story of salvation started when my sis was completely anti every song by POTF, until one day... when she suddenly requested me the following:

"Play Lift, now, and make it LOUD!"

I guess that's where her road started. After that she's learnt the melodies for practically every song although the lyrics are still a bit out of tune :D Best part of it was today when I was playing SoL in the background while having breakfast, and after half of it, she goes:

"I'm waiting for that song about roses, and it never appears...?"

So I switched to CoR on her request
This whole story is especially cool since I normally thinks she has crappy music taste and she thinks the same about me, haha

So, feel free to tell your own stories of how you've "salvated" people with POTF music :)

Most of my friends dont like my music.. any of it.. and i accept that.. but i ALWAYS try to convert them to The Poets.. i've succeeded on several occasions.

Chels.. well shes totally in love, addicted to the music, to the lyrics. Of all people its awesome that i could sway my girlfriend into liking my favorite Band.

One of my best friends Brad.. who's usually a man of Death Metal is also entranced by Marko's lyrics, and his, voice.. Brad likes every single song.. and thats rare for him, he's picky with his music.

My friend Mitchell who usually cant get anywhere past Rap or Techno was goin through a rough spot in life so i sent him the song Stay.. he now loves all the slower paced Poets songs.

My friend Emily.. well this isn't really a success story but she DOES love Miss Impossible, she doesn't like much else but STILL :P

I managed to get 4 people to like poets, or maybe 5.. I'm not sure about the 5th :P

-My mom needed rides to my grandmother's house at times, I managed to take her from there and drop her off there and stuff, and so I always played PotF. My mother loves Marko's voice and thinks their songs are 'very nice', and I know she doesn't even like or listen to rock music! let alone english music :P

-I kept singing CoR at some point, and I got 2 of my friends hooked on that.. then one of those two fell in love with all the other songs, and the other fell in love with Diamonds for Tears and the video and the fly kiss or nose wipe or wtv :D

-One of my closest friends is a big fan of HIM, so I decided to make him listen to PotF, now his favorite tracks are Lift, CoR, and Miss Impossible. Carnival of Rust even made it into his 'all time favorite songs' imaginary list :|

I put on Fire earlier tonight, and there was this older woman who looked at me and went, "What music is this?"

I handed her the CoR album and let her look for herself, not having the energy to explain from scratch as I usually do, "Well, it's a band called Poets of the Fall"... but to my big surprise she says, "Ohhh, I know this."

I go, "You do?"

And she says, "Sure, I've heard a bit of their stuff. It's good stuff."

And then we sat talking about LG and how it started everything out

Weird how even when not actually involved POTF can make my day and bring a smile to my face :D It's just always terrific when someone else realizes their bestness too

All you people have made nice efforts to divert the people to potf.

I usually refer LG to the newbies, because that's one of the songs which immediately lead them to addiction.

What I observed that if the person is in to pop music than LG, 3AM, Shallow, I&D, Someone Special, Roses, Fragile, Stay etc are the best tracks to get the attention.
Some of my friends who are in to pop stuff, now-a-days they are listening to Potf.

For metal heads, I think Fire, More, Lift, Don't mess with me, Delicious, TUF, RR, Save Me etc can be the best choice to refer. Recently I was succeeded in getting appreciation from one SlipKnot fan about Potf. He's my college friend. He specially liked More, TUF, Don't Mess with Me & LUTS.

Another thing which I observed that some of the girls in my college who liked Potf is because of their soft ballads numbers & those jazz tracks like Dawn & Where Do We Draw The Line.

Anyways my quest is still going on to increase more & more Potf fans in my city.

Just saying. Me and Satu were wondering what "salvating" means.. the dictionary didn't know either.

But I guess the point's been understood, anyway :)

(It's not meant to be "salivate" is it? :D)

A showed Signs of Life to a good friend of mine. I gave him a copy. He put off listening to for for weeks. I asked him every week if he had listened to them yet. He listened to them for the first time to shut me up, but he was blown away. He absolutely loved them. Our music tastes differ pretty strongly.

There is no such word as 'salvate', but

Quote:
Salvation
1. (in Christianity) the state of being saved from the power of evil.

2. a way of protecting sb from danger, disaster, loss, etc.

To be honest, I first thought this was some sort of religion-thread again, judging by the title, but I guess you do eventually get the point of the thread after reading the posts. :)

Hahaha, my mistake  I really thought you could use the word "salvate" from the word "salvation". Man, maybe I gotta rethink a little.

Love the idea that POTF's music has the power to save us from evil though. Or well, you get the idea. Salvated from all the other crappy music style out there :D

Hardik, I think you got a good point. Normally what I do is I make a playlist with tracks from all the albums and play it through to people. I let them skip the songs they want to skip. That way they can find which tracks suits them best. But if I know the person I recommend certain songs that I believe will entrance them most :)

Also with POTF I have found that it doesn't really matter what people normally listen to, which genre etcetera, most fall in love with their variety of songs either way.

Yeah! You are right.

But what I feel now is that POTF really needs to divert their songs to particular one genre. In all their three albums, there are every kind of song..like from heavy stuff to soft ballads...from psychedelic to progressive stuff.

Jazz kind of songs are also included in their albums.
It's a whole mixture we are getting.

But I think now is the time to divert their sound with one particular genre either psy rock, hard rock or alternative rock. That will be way better.

Even I found difficulties in describing the genre of the band to some of my friend who haven't listened to potf.

Why should they restrain themselves to just one small genre? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought they chose to stay independent because that would enable them to make the music they like to make without any restraints set upon them by a music label.
I think variety is the spice of life. Musical variety doubly so. Is it a bad thing that you can get different genres from one band?
The problem with defining what genre a band belongs to is also the fact that each genre means something a bit different to everyone. If you wanna define Poets' genre, why not just say "It's mostly rock" and leave it at that or - even better - grab an mp3 player and let them hear the music, allowing them to name it themselves? ;)

I love the fact that the songs have different genres.
How to define them? That's hard.. I'd say something like "melodic rock" (or poetic rock  )

When I want to get some friends to listen to POTF I like that I'm choosing for each the songs that I think each of them might like most: I mean, it's not like they have just a few big songs... POTF have a lot of very good songs, of many different kinds

(I hope you understand what I wrote: it's late and I'm sleepy..)

Mostly Music label aka banner never forces band to record the music in particular genre. It depends up on bands nature like in which genre they like to record.

They should divert their music to particular genre to maintain the energy level & continuity of iron clad riffs. When first time I listened Revolution Roulette, as by their order of tracks, I listened 'More' --> 'The Ultimate Fling' --> 'Revolution Roulette' --> 'Psychosis'.

Each of these tracks contains psychedelic sessions and distorted guitar loops. It was mind blowing experience. But than came the soft ballad 'Fragile' which spoiled my mood. Even after energetic 'Save Me' comes 'Where do we draw the line' which degrades the album.

There is nothing like bad. I have never wanted to define Poets' genre. But if you look up on the mainstream popular bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, AC DC, Linkin Park, Korn etc than you will find that most of the albums of them always been recorded within their particular genres. These bands always stick to their particular sound except some albums. And that makes it more energetic.

I actually think that always recording in the same genre makes most other bands a lot more boring than POTF. I love the variety and I know for sure that I would not like them so much if they only played heavy rock or only balled for that matter. I like how they switch effortlessly from on eto the other. (And I have other favorites who try out different genres too).

To get back to the topic of this thread: I've been trying to give CDs to friends and colleague sto listed to, but so far no luck :( None of them really liked it (or they have not old me )

I think it's one of the best tracks in it, if not the best one... and I'm one who usually prefers "rockier" songs

I love the fact that they close each album with slower songs, that seem to take you and sweetly accompany you out of the album

Actually that was my personal opinion. Inclusion of jazz track in rock album doesn't seem correct to me. And as you said that it sweetly accompany us out of the album and you are right. It calms the nerves & invokes the sleep which I don't like.

Alright folks we won't start that debate again!

@topic
Another idea to get attention of people to POTF is to play their song in the local city rock band concerts. If you have any skill with guitar or keyboard than performing their songs live on stage can be best way to get attention of people to POTF.

Though I don't about how to get POTF's permission or rights to perform or play their songs live in concert.

Vocals, Keyboard, stings, saxophones & trumpet etc etc
These are the instrument generally used for Jazz style music.

And WDWDTL is the song which sounds like Jazz. It's vocals, keyboard, strings etc. So I said it. Although I don't listen to Jazz now-a-days. I had heard some tracks of Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington years ago. WDWDTL is very similar with that kind of style.

Was over at my friend's house last night, we were talking about something, me gesturing far too much, as usual, and she noticed my PotF tattoo, asking where it came from and everything. I just couldn't help myself but play her Maybe Tomorrow Is A Better Day! :D She asked for more, I played her Carnival of Rust along with the video and finally Sleep and... well, we have a new fan amongst us. :D She got really stuck on CoR, played whoooole night long.
