Dude, the problem with casting Ludacris is not that he's black. It's that he's Ludacris.

His hip-hop "career" has been circling the drain for a good while now, so he's agreeing to any project that comes along in an attempt to make people care about him again.

A black guy, IF he was a decent, professional actor, could play Jim and I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's that they cast a has-been-at-31 former rap star that bothers me.

Mark Wahlburg is an excellent actor. But he's not Max.

Ok I'm not racist, but oh shit, Jim Bravura is a white man! :D
God damn it, Fox, leave the Max Payne story alone!

I don't know if anybody else noticed, but the Independant Film "Max Payne: Payne and Redemption" has to be completely re-done. because of a dispute with FOX, the writer and director are no longer allowed to mention "Max Payne" anywhere in the film.
The story is original, not from either of the games, so it will still be going on with filming. But unless the people who are in charge of this operation can find some sort of slip out of this bind, their film will never be a max payne film again

Ok, the first trailer is out and it looks quite ok, but for me the typical Max Payne atmosphere is still missing :(

Heh, Raspu, I was about to post it, but you were quicker this time. It's not the game, but I'm generally surprised that it does not look like total crap. Who knows, maybe it will be good? And there's a nice dream sequence from what I've noticed.

This isn't Max Payne. Ok, it has bullet-time. And also the Mona in the elevator looked fine, nearly like in game. But it's not Max Payne. It's blasphemy. :x

But since when did it have to be a perfect imitation?

When adapting to screen there's a certain amount of interpretation that has to be made and everyone probably has their own idea of how the film would look like. And yet that hasn't stopped a few movies from still being good even though they're not the imitation or mirror image of the game.

Correct me if I'm wrong :P

I think it looks good, it might just be an incredible movie. Give it a chance, you cant expect perfection, sometimes you just need to settle for a decent movie :)

Yes....but still - Max Payne was always a movie from a part. And when you try to copy the movie, you should make an exact copy at least I think so... you can use your imagination when you're creating a movie based on a novel or something...but when you simply copy a movie, you should copy it well

I think beccali is right. Also, perfect imitations are usually average, so let's give it a chance. I still have high hopes especially few scenes were really game-like, especially Mona in elevator, I loved it. Just one thing - I wonder if they are going to use the original Max Payne theme music. That would be amazing.

Yeah, I wonder about that too! That would be just awesome. But I'm sure Fox will find a way to ruin that too. :?

Is Max Payne supposed to have skeletal angels in it? I thought it was a crime drama, not a supernatural thing.

And Mark Wahlberg is a good actor, very professional, he'll do a good job but he didn't get the part by being Max Payne, he got it by being Mark Wahlberg. He's getting paid to be Mark Wahlburg. Max is not in this movie.

The whole cast-well-known-actor-as-video-game-hero thing should stop. It stops the characters themselves from coming through. Makes me sad.

They don't get any points for bullet time. Everyone these days has bullet time.

I'm not expecting much from this movie anyway. I have no idea what Remedy was thinking when they handed over the rights for shooting a movie to Fox, the most paranoid and stupid broadcasting network there is. :?

Next to Silent Hill Max Payne is looking like it's going to be the only other good video game to silver screen adaptation

Thanks for the link, penyuwan25. I just read the synopsis and I'm really worried. It says that "Max is forced to battle enemies beyond the natural world" - does it mean that these demons are not just nightmares, but are real? Please, tell me I'm wrong. Tell me these are not just another superhumans created by Aesir or something.

Oh they are real. I am sure of that much; they are very real. They introduced the supernatural beasties before they even mentioned Payne's family, so I'm very sure this is a Max Payne vs. Supernatural Monsters story.

I'm very sure of it.

As long as people keep going to see loose, generic movie adaptations of hit games, they will keep destroying title after title making them. :(

I hope its not another Constantine-ish movie, Hope that meaning beyond the natural world, is the freaky-Valkyrie dream of his. But looking at the trailer the background is there, the heavy blizzard and story driven like the game. But Jack Lupino does not look Italian. Hoped is much better than 'Hitman', shown almost the same time last year...

17th October 2008, Everyone, Max Payne release date.
