So heres the deal... i was just checking for new things at youtube.com, as we all do and i was searching for something connected to a keyword - Marko Saaresto... and i discovered this:

POTF89 posted these videos.. :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhF06LRESUw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zt_dhtEaifo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iq3xDNt4OA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQXvDfMQojg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaih_vN1WXA

These are songs from the solo album of Marko, before Poets Of The Fall actually came to be... SO COOL... :)

So, what would be this topic about?

How do you think, if this is a property of Marko Saaresto, would it be nice if Captain took these songs under hes supervision and make something like the sound we are use to now...???

Sorry for my bad English...! :) :D

This has already been covered in other threads, but just in case there is any confusion: Playground was a band, not Marko's solo project.

Playground wasn't Marko Solo, Olli was there too I think. This was their band before PotF.

Does anyone know anything about who else was in this band, or why it broke up?

As far as I know, there was only Marko, not Olli.

But some guitar solos really sound like it's Olli Tukiainen...

Really? I heard they had played together in a band previous to PotF, though that might not have been Playground.

The Playground thread went the way of the dodo a while ago, I heard.

So who WAS in Playground then? Mark, obviously, but who else? And what happened?

I'm not complaining, PotF = Way Better then what I'm hearing on youtube.

I notified POTF89 on this matter as soon as I stumbled upon the videos and it has been corrected as far as I'm concerned.

Last time I wondered where any of the old Playground topics had gone, it had gone with the wind :D Either I'll go use search function or I'll just settle for discussing them here

I like all of the songs on this album, although some tend to stand out among the others. Hmm, I think my favourite ones are "Inevitable", "Amber", "Far Too Far" and "Whisper". Well, damn that. All of them are my favourites :D

For god knows what? This is the POETS OF THE FALL forum and nothing else. Why do we need sticky topics for something that happened ages ago and has nothing to do with the particular band POTF...it's a closed chapter of Marko's past. More or less everyone knows about that.

Please understand. :)

It probably should. By the way, too bad that we don't know who else was in Playground. The guys did some really great tracks and I think the "other guys" also deserve attention.

I agree, it's almost impossible finding anything out about this band and it's definitely not just Marko's vocals that does the trick. 8)

See this thread is now where it belongs :D

That's the thing though: we get new people popping up around here all the time. And the oldest fact in the world is new if you've never heard it before.

There should be some kind of F.A.Q section or something, just so that those new kids don't come around here thinking that the stuff that's new to them will also be new to everyone else.

I was just gonna ask if anyone knew if the lyrics'd been transcribed somewhere. I can see a lot is still missing among these but it still thrills me to see someone is as curious as me.

I'll see if I can complement these in any way and we'll have to work together to figure them out... or anyone got a better idea? :?

:| Probably not, seeing not many are posting in this thread :?

Oh and I don't know how I could forget to mention "Fool's Game" and "Different Light". Both beauties. I like this sound because it's a bit rough and old and still it's something quite special, not like the other music that was made this time.

I wish I knew all the songs. So far I have only heard the ones that are currently on you tube.
I don't like all of them, but Different Light, Far to far and Inevitable are really good.

It's got some good elements in it (mostly Mark, who is a powerhouse on his worst possible day) but I can see why this band died. It's got no oomph. If they didn't have Mark, they wouldn't have much. Even with Mark they didn't have much.

I'll take Poets of the Fall, with Ollie's jazzy solos and Captain's ambient world-building, any day. 8)

I still don't see why they should have to be compared to POTF. They're two far apart things that differ very much from eachother and these old songs still deserve to be viewed as individual art, even if you may not be fond of it. It's just so much more than just the "pre-POTF" thingy.

As for me the lyrics for these songs have been pure lifesavers and I'm really in deep with the songs. Every time I hear them I mourn a little bit that this band isn't still around.

"And you must turn it around, turn it around until you see
the veil of meaning in a different light"

Pure poetry, fellas. <3

yes i totally agree

they belong to my top 10 artists and they have just one album - that should make my love for this band clear *g*

but if i have to choose (and lucky i dont have to) i would pick potf :)

i agree with Becca in that they should never be compared, simply because its two different bands, two different sounds. The fact that I don't like Playground doesn't take away from the fact that I know that they are a GOOD band.

Raves, you're just such a wise soul :)

I thought of more lines today when I was driving... from Forgiveness <3

"Something's moving
at the edge of my vision
flickering by
like a dream gone bad
flowing through my
memory for something
a bit more tangible, yeah
to get me down where it counts"

Also these lines of the chorus:

"I have come here for forgiveness
Be my saviour, take my cross to bear
For of worries I've had my share"

So deep. Wow. :o

I could keep picking lines forever :D

Yeah, lyrics are really good, without a doubt. I guess they were written by Marko, too. And to the discussion from previous posts - beccali totally got a point. Once again :D
