anyone read Manga? or watch Anime?

buys and read One Piece and Shaman King

loans and read Neon Genesis Evangelion, Naruto, and Masterdetective Conan

watch Shaman king, and sometime Naruto and Love Hina

(Manga is a backwards comic from japan, and anime is the cartoon/movie version)

Anime/Manga thread! YAY! I was thinking about starting one for some time... well, you're first. :P

The only manga I read was Gantz - I finished Phase1 and then kind of forgot to check for updates on the site I got it from.

I'm watching Hellsing right now. Pretty damn cool, especially the soundtrack. Finished Elfen Lied recently.

More than certain we don't now. At least the search tells so.
Yeah, I actually used search. :P

We however DID have a topic in which some guy ranted about why he hates anime, if that's what you're talking about. ;)

it was and truthfully the topic of manga wasn't dealt justice, not even by myself, who at the time hadn't found an anime which I saw as more than a saturday morning cartoon, but a while back I started watching Death Note and I pull away all my pre-measured thoughts of manga and see them as simply incredible

Has anyone seen Basilsk? My Avatar is a photo of it and I find it to be the most well done anime I have ever seen, both story and animation. It is utterly beautiful in every way, and the ending made me cry so much
I highly recomend seeing it
Another one I recomend seeing is Chrono Crusade.
So much anime and manga, so little time :)

I've seen this one. Really good and the ending was very nice, though it's not among my top whatnot, :)
I've run out of things to watch - what's Basilisk about?

It is about two Ninja Clans, Kouga and Iga, in early Japanese history who are selected to battle one another to determine the next succesor to the Japanese throne. Iga clan represents one heir, while Kouga represents the other and the clan that wins not only determines the next Japanese shougen, but also obtains one hundred years of glory.

In the midst of this are lovers, Oboro of the Iga clan, and Gennosuke of the Kouga clan. They want the clans to be united instead of battling to the death. It is basically a Romeo and Juliet story, but ninja style :D
It is based on a famous Japanese novel. It is a very mature, and heart wrenching story.
I loved it anyway, maybe you will too :|

Hmm.. actually it doesn't sound like my cup of tea. But I may give it a chance if I remember it the next time I get in touch with the guy I get my anime from. ;)

Well, I"m afraid it is one of those things where you like, or you hate it. I am obviously one of those who loves it. I have yet to find a person where they are in between.

AmoSLEEP,

I have seen "Basilsk". They play it here on IFC (International Film Channel). Don't know why tho. I seen the esposide with the two lovers who have to fight each other in their old age. The story was about how they met. For some reason, it just wasnt what I look for in Anime. But it was better than what my daughter watches, Bleach!

I sooo sick of hearing about Bleach. Not only does my daughter watch it but a woman I work with and a friend of ours watches it too. I never know what they are talking about.

Basilisk IS different from other animes. They have no over exaggerated expression, everything, from the lighting to the scenery, is very realistic. I was shocked as well when i first watched it, and thought it very strange. But it really grew on me. I really like that episode, when they actually kill each other the animation is a little strange, but i still like it. It is a famous story in Japan so i think that they wanted to make it a serious and realistic project.
It a shocking contrast from, lets say, Fruits Baskets or Special A, both of which i LOVE.
By the way, you live in America am i right?????? Just wondering, cause i do as well and i am shocked to hear that they play it over here :)

I think, that Death Note is better than Shaman king, but Shaman king is good too. It's a pity, that Shaman king have only two series (or more?).
