What I liked best was how he just lit up when talking about what really amounts to fulfilling a dream-playing in L.A. and seeing the Pacific. He told of how crazy Olli was because Olli apparently dove right in and swam in it! :D

As well he should! Good man, that Olli.

TheArtist wrote:

Yeah, the people in charge yelled at everyone to get out, but I stayed put, and boy, was I glad I did. Olli came out a little later. It took him about 3 extra seconds to recognize me.

Yeah, I didn't think they would really have dragged us from the hall right in front of the Band. What the Band wants should come first in any good venue. Artist, it is still so cool you know them like you do.

TheArtist wrote:

Later on, after getting buttons from Tiia (Thank you!) I introduced myself to Jani. Jani, like Jaska, sort of knew who I was from my adventures in captioning, which was cool.[/i]

TheArtist is the crowned queen of the Caption thread. Man, I wish I could have stayed there that long: bouncers don't scare me but my Ride was fretting about his parking....

TheArtist wrote:

I was so glad that Marko was well and Cap was almost there.

Are you kidding me? Captain performed like that while feeling ill? Yeesh, if he's that lively while sick I can only imagine the wild force he is when healthy.

TheArtist wrote:

Cap told me the gig felt like their first one, because the crowd didn't know them, but I told him what I saw.

AND, silver lining: by arriving late you actually were in a position to make that observation, at least, a better position then we up in the front were, with our attention fixed as it was.

Poets music does have a bit of a learning curve: it's easy to dismiss their stuff as good but generic the VERY first time you hear it. But it sticks with you, soon you can't get it out of your head. By the time you can't stop thinking about it either and start pondering it's deeper meanings, you're done for, you're hooked.

I think if they'd played a longer set, they would have attracted more and more people. But if my Ride, a very smart man with no industry experience, said that he could easily picture these guys commanding a much larger crowd, then it's hard to imagine an experienced Music Producer can't.

TheArtist wrote:

The House of Blues sits on a steep hillside, and it was at the top where the taxis were. As I walked along, Jaska was the perfect gentleman and pulled my little carry-on for me. (Knock me down with a feather, why don'tcha?) Sami followed along. I hugged them both (Heh, I think I surprised Sami...he wasn't expecting that!) wished them well, and walked over to the taxi. I yelled, "Good night, gentlemen!" over my shoulder, for they were still standing back on the corner, making sure I was okay. I can't tell you how awesome that felt.

Talk about a story fit to warm the heart. TA, you are one lucky, lucky lady, and yet at the same time, I feel they're the nice guys who don't think too much about such small acts of consideration. How many Rock Stars can say that?

TheArtist wrote:

In all, I was probably there for no longer than an hour and a half...and yet, if I had to do it all over again, I would. In a heartbeat. :D

Well said, TA. VERY well said. 8)

I was also at Musexpo. I had the most awesome experience last night.

Then as we were leaving past the front of the building, Marko comes walking out. My friend and I went up and talked to him for about a good 20 minutes or so, a lot more time than the first time we met him earlier in the day. I have to say, Marko is the most down to earth, easy going singer I've ever met. He doesn't come across as a rock star at all, but as an awesome drinking buddy, or a best friend. He's genuine when we talks, has major depth, but is also light hearted and fun. Very articulate as well. I think Marko speaks better English than most people in Los Angles do. And I totally got a few autographs from Marko, but I did forget to get a picture with me and him! AHH! I can't believe I forgot that! Marko has a very captivating presence, he draws you in when he talks.

By the way, I have to say it. Tiia is AWESOME. She's a lot like Marko, really fun, and extremely kind.

I wanna move to Finland now.

So that was you talking to Marko forever! I wanted to chat him up a bit when he came out but you got to him first.

It was awesome getting to shake Marko's hand right after the show. I stood kind of behind some other people because I didn't want to interrupt others talking to him but he looked at me and said, "I haven't shaken your hand yet." and it was so great. All I could get out was "It's nice to meet you." Curse my shy nature! I wanted to speak to Ollie, too but that security lady was starting to get really annoyed so we obliged and left.

Tiia and Jutta were so amazingly nice. My boyfriend and I love our shirts and pins. Thank you!

We had the absolute best time of our lives. The twelve hour drive to LA was exhausting and I was so nervous but the 12 hour drive back home was great because of our adrenaline induced minds from seeing the best band in the world!

Hear all ye our sister AliB, for she speaks the TRUTH, you see!

Man, I wish I'd gotten a shirt. I'd live in that damn thing. Oh well. My button is my good-luck charm now, so victory is mine!

If we all left that buzzed from just a half-hour set, imagine the kind of kites we'd be if we'd been there for a full-length show. Not that I'd wish a longer set on the guys when they're playing to such a tough crowd.

I know I've said this before, but not only was it easy to see they could command a much larger crowd, they ALSO successfully managed the smaller group they had. Things like shout-backs and clapping didn't work, there were too few of us, so instead the performance turned more personal. Marko in particular is a master at engaging an audience, of any size.

Man. I am so glad I got to see them live. There is no reason in the world why they wouldn't be a huge hit here in the states: a stong single like "Lift" would only need a few radio playings to generate the kind of buzz that'd guarantee the crowd at their next LA performance would be....a bit larger.

Because I couldn't be there, I decided to check out the MUSEXPO site to see what they had to say (don't know if anyone saw it). This was from their blog:

"Finnish artists Poets of the Fall will be…erm, finishing… this evening’s musical selections. They’re a favorite of fellow Finn Steven Stewart, Nokia Music honcho who had naught but grand things to say about the band during a recent conversation. The sextet’s bracing, muscular rock & roll represents the perfect conclusion to this evening’s MUSEXPO entertainment, priming the crowd for another stellar lineup tomorrow night."

Did you guys know about Steven Stewart? That sounds good...but I take issue with them "priming the crowd for...tomorrow night." Please!

My biggest regret is that I didn't ask him about that myself. I would have loved to hear that. I must have been doing something else in that moment...

Who knows though, maybe he'll sing about it on the next album. :)

Noticed the blog didn't mention the late start-up. I'm not sure what the problem was, but they knew it was going to be late before the previous band had even finished their set. Means it probably wasn't Poets fault: someone at MuseExpo screwed up.

I can't warm too much to the MuseExpo guys for using Poets to wrap the evening. Yeah they get points for bringing over all these acts that American producers otherwise might not get to see, but I take issue with the fact that they're trying to pretend that the acts are supposed to relate to each other in some way. I guess they want to pat themselves on the back for all the work they put into assembling the scheduling, but how well they flow into each other could not be any further from the point of the show, for both the acts and the attendees. They're not supposed to work in harmony with everyone else for a week of perfect entertainment, they're supposed to make enough of an impression that you go away thinking about them and whether or not they're a thing you could market to the American Public.

These MuseExpo blogs are insufferably self-congratulatory. Welcome to Hollywood Industries: please check your BS-Detector by the door. -_-

Well said, DreamerM, but as I'm sure you noticed, the guys put everything they had into it anyway, and made the very best with it. And we all saw how it grabbed the people's attention! 8)

Oh I was there Artist, I saw it for myself. Not only did they not let it throw off their act, they didn't get chips on their shoulders or act testy about the situation either. They just threw their whole hearts into it. They both played, in fact, to a small group (a tougher job then playing to a large, enthusiastic crowd) AND demonstrated their ability to rise above a less-then-ideal set-up to play a show more energetic and exhilarating then most of the full-length concerts I've been to.

MusExpo doesn't get much credit for the night being a success though. It succeeded because our guys are awesome. 8) We're some of the luckiest fans in the world.

Well, LA is pretty much the epicenter of the music industry, and I imagine the producers out there think it's all about them anyway. It's a real accomplishent for the guys, but one of the things I love about being a POTF fan is that we're a small community. I wish the guys the very best, but I kind of like being one of the few that know about them. I honestly think they will take off like a rocket, and probably soon, now that the industry has seen what they can do.

Thank you so much, man!

I'm going to make a mirror for these just in case. I'll edit with the link.

Welcome to everyone for the pics. Feel free to use them for whatever non-commercial use you have, a simple credit to the original album is all I would like, feel free to mirror/them whatnot.

Obviously, the video is not up there because I gto tow wondering about the issues with it, so I was wondering where Poets stands on this issue. It's a video of them performing "More," audio is about a 3/10, videos not bad though. If anyone has any guidance on whether its okay to post it or not let me know :D

Yeah, me and my friend kind of got into a deep conversation with Marko, I didn't realize how long we were talking to him until we parted ways. Sorry about that, hope you got at least some time to talk to him.

Hee hee. No problem. I only got to greet him...but I probably would have just stood there smiling, looking like a nerd if I had more time to speak to him. There's always next time! I can't wait. :D

Even without the full sound I heard on their MySpace page, they still rocked the place (it was a living room, after all).

In fact, I liked them so much I stayed up past my bed time to catch their midnight showcase at the House of Blues the following night.

The man knows a good thing when he hears one. 8)

And it's cool that he wanted to show the guys around Sunset after their gig. LA is incredibly proud of it's music scene, and the Strip is the heart of it. It is kinda lame that the guys got shipped off right away like they did. Here's hoping the next time they're in town, they'll be here a bit longer!
