I love this song. It's my favorite on the album. An interesting thing I remembered after hearing the song the second time is that I wrote a poem years ago has a line that reads:
passion is everything we hold nearly perfect

What are your interpretations of its meaning?

I would have to say it's about someone facing new responsibilities brought forth by dramatic changes. The responsibilities keep coming, but its completely okay because passion controls his every move, passion drives what he is. Until passion his overwritten by his lust.

What are your other thoughts? Feelings?

I like the song, like all of them...
When I heared that song for firs time, for some reason I don't know, I had a feeling that this song and its lyrics is somehow very personal and important to Marko.. I really don't know why I felt like that, but he sings it in a way that's so full of emotion.. (of course all the songs are sang with emotion, I didn't mean that...)
Don't know if anyone thinks the same way but here's my thoughts anyway..

It's my second favorite song from RR 8) it's one rock POTF song with emotional moments(toothpastes^^) and impressive lyrics :) maybe it has more Fall and that's why it's nice

I think this is absolutely a masterpiece, every part of it just appeals to me. Listening to it, it feels somehow like it's always existed, it's an instant classic of sorts. :)

Especially the part I like is Marko's vocals (big surprise) and the lyrics... but the music also makes it what it is... too hard to choose just one bit that's good about it. I love every aspect of it, it's my favourite RR song if not my favourite POTF song so far. :)

I think that it mediates the feeling that passion controls your life, in a way... like that if you've ever experienced it it'll never let go of you. Sometimes when there's someone you can't stop thinking about it colours everything you do and your every thought. It makes you look at yourself from the outside ("the face I wear behind my grin") and be amazed at things you're doing.

Also I think that particular face-grin line is saying that, "although I'm all fine in your eyes, although all you see is me when I smile, it's different on the inside". Cause he looks at the world now through a filter that's been put upon his eyes, a filter of passion that's obscuring everything.

I just love, love, LOVE this song! It's so beautiful, the lyrics are really nice. It's kind of a slow song with some rock. Great combination.
I love the point where Marko sing "I dance in tune with what I fear
To do adrenaline" Brilliant...

This was my instant favorite when I first listened to the album - everything just fits perfectly: music lyrics, the singing...
Love the advertising references (toothpaste moment, super-absorbent man). The entire lyrics are very clever and have so many different levels from "simple" wordplay to deep meaning. This song and especially the lyrics speak to me, but I can't yet decipher what they say. I have a general feeling about this song, but I cannot put in words what it means to me - yet.

i've avoided this topic so far just because Passion colors everything is the hardest song to understand on the whole album and i don't know what to say.hard to figure out the story, the feelings..... :?
but to tell the general opinion: F***** BRILLIANT 10/10 :D

What about it d'you think is hard to understand?

Maybe if we dissected it a bit together it'd make more sense. :)

i agree, its my second favorite song of all time at this point, my top favorite songs are, in this order:

1.) Carnival of Rust
2.) Passion Colors Everything
3.) Illusion and Dream

creating a list of 10, i realized this morning would be really hard, i could probably do it though.

This one's odd. It's basically a singer singing all about how sincere he is.

Or it would be if it was anyone other then Marko writing the lyrics. He's too clever for that. I'm not sure what it really is about, but I'm sure having fun trying to figure it out.

So it's about material wealth being unfullfilling and even dancing for a crowd that's feared, so it might be about the perils of fame and an inability to stop wearing his heart on his sleeve even when it causes a huge mess.

Am I imagining things or are the imprisonment/surrender themes big for Marko?

At first, it wasn't bad, but the rest of album was better....But now...I like this song very very much. And I've no idea why.

When I hear the first notes, I suddenly become sad. And that's a sign of a masterpiece if it can move with my emotions(there are very few songs except Poets who are able to do that).

In the beginning it was an average PotF song and nothing more, tough it had that special feeling that makes you wanna replay it. After a while it actually became I may say one of my favorites along with Sleep and Maybe Tomorrow...
The way I see it, it's about how life should actually be - passionate and not commercial. Everything should be done because you feel like doing, because you feel a passion to make music or whatever. And I think it has a small hint of anger in it.. anger towards all the people who do something just to do it and to get money, not to put their heart and soul into it.
And there was some more I was thinking, but I forgot it... I'm really tired I guess.

Hmm, I really think it's more about passion as a feeling, and about desire and fleeting love, than about being passionate about money

Well to me personally this song represents the state of mind also called "flow" that pretty efficiently eradicates all hunger for and meaning of materialistic things (food, money...) making them feel completely indifferent. With the exception of the hunger to create and connect mentally. Though the idea, that man will work and work only to be diminished into dust, sometimes weighs heavy on it all.
Passion is the driving force, the hyper propeller, filterer and protective cushion for all of your existence when you find it. Those who haven't found their passion, hunger for it and will consume and feed off on your's if you allow them to. It has to be cut down to manageable pieces for them with social masks and such.
and yet I still have the nagging feeling of missing the point...

I love this. The word-plays and the layers of meanings.

Some people might argue that the sort of wordplays like "overrated how we underrate" and "The mess I made to the original sin" are just symptoms of Marko's imperfect english.

Those people are stupid. And insecure that a non-native english speaker is a better writer of english then they are.

But I notice these threads are usually focused on decoding the lyrics. This isn't a book club. Lets talk music.

"Passion Colors everything" struck me with it's strange...almost haunted sound. This is someone who is tormented by a gift as much as he enjoys the thrill of it. Passion is what makes life worth living, but it also robs you of control and you'll always be struggling against it if you want to remain your own master.

Well said, marko can write english better than me, the reason i love poets of the fall is mainly becasue of the AMAZING lyrics. The depth of poetic nature that is hugged so hard is one thing that keep me wanting to listen. The style of course is a big thing too.

This is awesome!! This interpretation is perfect! I totally agree with you!

I will conclude with, this is the song that defines me at the moment. And it TIED as favorite with Carnival of Rust.

Marko's English is perfect, and the man is just creative as hell. No one sane should try and debate this.

Ollie's in fine form in this song too: for a guitarist trained for jazz he can sure bring the ROCK cords when the song calls for it, so much so that it's sometimes easy to miss his subtlety. He's doing two or three interesting things per passage, and these are NOT easy solos he's pulling off!

If Marko's lyrics and vocals are the hook of any song, it's Ollie's virtuosity that gives a song it's Replay value. And Captain who holds everything together.

Listening to the song again (10 times already and I just downloaded the album two days ago!) I'm struck by how turbulent it is: kinda like being carried along in a strong current. You can't stop, you can't turn around so you just try to keep steady.
