I have never thought about meaning of this video, but maybe I should have :P. And if I had thought about that meaning I probably would had pretty different conclusions from what is the right one. But what do you say? Is it "right" conclusion about the meaning of the video if it fits into video and at least you think its right? It would probably be better to say "sensible conclusion" than "right conclusion"

Sorry about my poor english. Hope you understand what I mean. ^^

Perhaps it's been said already, but even so I'm going to add my 2c.

The video Lift is, in my humble opinion, basically a metaphor for the loneliness life can instill in us unless we meet other who have the same ideas and visions as we do. Marko is alone, being interrogated and judged by five (I'm pretty sure it's 5) people, who can be said to represent the faces of common society: The Beautiful Woman of 'pretty people' culture, the old man of the 'Stragglers of Yester-generation" etc, etc. I don't think you see all of them in the video, but that is what it meant to me.

He sings about how he wants to meet someone, anyone, who can 'lift' him from this fate of being alone in what he sees and thinks (the moth). The hand gestures of the moth he makes to the people who cannot see them, from the perspective of the viewer, it looks so obvious that the inkblot is a moth, as we are meant to be on the side of Marko. At the very end it changes, to show us what everyone else sees, and made us question how it could possibly not be a moth, as Marko is.

The inkblot is a representation of life and how every situation can have millions of different interpretations and thoughts. It is a hard realization, and a difficult time, when you find yourself alone among your peers as the only one who thinks the way that you do.

However, the feeling you get when you finally meet someone who shares your vision is nothing short of incredible. This does not have to be love, though it obviously can be. Lift is the only word that can describe what you feel like when you meet the ones who share your vision.

The moth itself represents the struggle of a mind to find others who think the same way, and in the 2nd room we see hundreds of moths, all flapping their wings, trying to break free of the loneliness. The video does not end well for Marko, he finds no sympathy in the interrogators, and his moth, finding no partners to coexist with, returns dejectedly to his hands after experiencing its brief flight, which symbolized the desperate outcry of Marko for someone who thinks the same way.

At least that's what it meant to me 8)

And to you, Gratzi!

I don't have many things that get under my skin, but posting something serious and then having it ignored is one of the few.

You and the other one have saved me mass aggravation and possible impulses to recreate this post as a separate topic in desperation for answers.

Gratzi.

No, I am not Italian. (Ukraine all the way!)

So the room with the hundreds of moths would then be the world? Like, everyone feels like a moth, all alone, but in fact we are just to blind to see that there are people all around us, feeling the same?

That's pretty deep :)

Guys I think I might have a clue what the meaning could be!

The pinned moths and the butterfly gesture are a symbol, as the title "Lift".
It's a song about society's intolerance and fright towards dreamers, the ones who want to go a step beyond and see/think different, the ones who crave spiritual freedom.

I think at the last second we are supposed to see what the Rorschach-test REALLY looked like, everybody would have seen something different but he sees a butterfly/moth (a symbol for freedom) and for the others it seems like he's crazy because the picture at the end clearly doesn't look like that.

But Rorschach-tests usually have no wrong answer and are just supposed to analyze the personality of a person, but for thinking different she points a needle with a bag at him (01:23) to suppress his "false" opinion and that he is going to be pinned at the wall (insanity clinic) too for thinking different!

The only moth flying around represents him and his freedom as his eyes also turn black like a moth for a second. But if you think different and resist thinking like everybody else...you get pinned and punished. It's like religion: If somebody says (or said) "I believe in Satan!" / "I'm homosexual!" / "The earth is a ball and not a plate!" I'm sure everybody will look at him like a criminal, just for thinking different, even if they do no harm.

I read some comments from a few Lift-Music videos and asked some people, so maybe this is the purpose of this beautiful, magnificent masterpiece of song, even if the previous ones sound good too!

Keep rocking, Poets!
