Hi everyone
I'm not really sure I'm in the good section, but I don't see where else to ask. :?
Maybe someone has already said that, but while I was searching for "trance" music made by captain, I fell on this :
http://www.niksula.hut.fi/~tive/captain.html
Then I went to nectarine and found :
http://www.scenemusic.net/research.htm?author=Captain
And there are many other allusions to this captain on the web (you can also notice that he is Finnish : coincidence ?)...
So, is markus a member of "the demoscene", or is this guy another captain ?
Some of the amiga mods sound quite like "mantronix and tip" ones, have a ear at them cause they are great by the way... :)

PS : I'm French so please excuse my bad English

I'm not sure but it would be very cool if there were 2 captains with exactly the same name :P So, Yes, I think it's from "our" Captain from PotF

But what is this? Some sounds you can use in a music making program?

Yes he originates from demoscene. Space debris and beyond music being my favorites .. me & my friend have been begging from him to play at least few notes from those tracks at poets gigs but no luck.

There's also video from Lapsuus by Maturefurk (Amiga), Assembly 2001 demoparty winner, which has soundtrack by Captain. http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=3284

Yes he does, I'm also involved with demoscene as member of Byterapers, inc. Trust facts :) In demoscene you just don't take anothers alias and good artists are well known & respected (like Captain or Purple Motion for example)

Thx for your answers all

Still_life > i'm not a specialist, but if you want to know more about mods, you can have a look at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Module_file
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tracker

To be simple (and from my "newbie" point of view) it's like a midi file but the sounds are embeded with the file and don't come from the wavetable of your soundcard. Therefore, you can have small files with a really good quality (not like mids).
I think you can ask mikron : he seems a lot more competent than i am, and... ...he knows "scene", I don't :)

mikron > I don't have an amiga (yeah, i know, what a shame !!!) and i'm too lazy to get my winUAE back, i'll have to download the video
edit : i watched the video : it's huge !

Just came from Tampere gig, which was excellent btw. I talked with Captain and got his "blessing" to keep updating that wikipedia entry with my friends Dice and DBT, so keep checking it out.. updates coming next 1-2 weeks, after we get some facts straighten out from Kapu. (I promised to keep few secrets unfold though)

Edit: Intro/Outro theme for Poets (the tune which plays before starting 1st song and after last song) is from 3DMark06 and has elements from Lapsuus soundtrack.

And yes, Shallow was ex-tempore, not planned. Ppl just started banging chairs and tables which kinda forced them to do encore. Captains Mac was already offline, Olli had some problems etc but still Shallow was great cooldown for best Poets gig I have ever seen (total:4) Cu at Tavastia!

btw. Poets warmup band Sadetanssi sucked. Someone shoot the pianist.

Well, I was not talking about this "dance nation stuff" but about the demoscene life of captain. if you search demoscene in the forum, you get only 3 results and nothing convinced me...

My last comment was written after concert, after huge amount of beer :) But still I didn't like the band. And in some songs, piano stuff just didn't fit in, there were too loud and "stinging".

your right, dramadance, lol. I was just reminded of a famous movie quote that fits this subject:

Dead "Poets" Society:
"Oh Captain, My Captain!"

Anyone find that interesting?
