PotF needs to have an American Tour!
They are my favorite band and I can't travel around the world to see them!
If I could, I would!

Seriously choosing between those two albums is like choosing between your two bestfriends.

Well, here's a crazy thought: start sending letters to Conan O'Brien and tell him of the band and that you think he should have them on his show. I hope that as soon as his invitation to the PoTF arrives in Finland, they will fly to NY (*humming Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York"*) and play on his show. Just if you didn't know, Conan has been to Finland before and did a special episode on that visit (which was hilarious in so many ways) and he might just consider taking in a small Finnish band to play live if enough Americans show their interest. ;)

After that, next step is better sales on Amazon.com and an American tour! 8)

Ok, that's enough of my crazy talk... :D I will now return to my regularly scheduled programming.

I'm totally with you on this! It'd be great if you guys overseas requested them so it wouldn't seem like some Finnish "let's get a local band on Conan" thingy :)

EDIT: When he was in Finland I actually left CoR for him at his hotel reception :) dunno if he got it, hope he did.

That's a fantastic idea! We should make a petition! :D I can't go to MySpace on this comp (I'm at work and it's been banned here) so someone send a note to the USA Street Team page to get people on it immediately! I'll write it if no one else will, and send it to everyone to get their siggys on it! Let's make it happen!

Maybe people from different countries should take part.. everyone would send their cards, try to get them on their way so that they'd reach their destination within a few days on a certain week.

It would be like an international old-fashioned petition :) AND I'd LOVE to create different kinds of Potf-themed cards in our Cheerios Sweatshop!! :D

All right, I have no idea how to do this, so any help would be greatly appreciated. All right, let's do this! What do you think?

To Conan O'Brian and Co,

Hello from several voices around the world! No, this isn't someone with Multiple Personality Disorder, though that would make for an interesting guest, wouldn't it? Nope, I'm just an ordinary American with some extraordinary friends from all over the world, and well, we need your help.

No, we're not asking for money or fame, or to help with some great cause to save the world. Actually, scratch that last statement, because I and my friends truly feel that music goes a long way to heal hearts, souls and minds. Music is a form of communication and healing, and is a far better way to deal with something you can't express in just words.

Well, how did I meet these friends of mine, all of whose signatures are at the bottom of this clever (I hope) little piece of literature? I'm glad you asked, for it's the very reason why we need your help. I mentioned music, and music is indeed how I found myself greeting people who I have come to love as friends. The music I'm writing about comes from a little band hailing from a country you, Mr. O'Brian, came to visit and did a show about. I'm talking about Finland, and the music is from the band, Poets of the Fall.

Poets of the Fall is without a doubt the most unique, refreshing rock music on the planet. I may not be a music critic, but I can tell you that their blend of catchy melodies, powerful rhythm, and thought-provoking lyrics are a breath of fresh air in the rock music scene. This is something that is so desperately needed, especially in America, and so this is why we have created this petition. You have the power to bring this band to the attention of America and thus, the world. It's not often I hear music that strikes my heart and makes me feel more alive than I did a minute ago. I do not compliment these men lightly, but they did exactly that for me, and for many others.

All of their songs are in English and are unlike anything you've heard today, primarily because of the very different musical backgrounds of the core 3 Poets, Mark, Ollie, and Captain. They merged three different worlds together to form POTF: a rock singer, a jazz guitarist, and an "industrial-machine-trance-man".

Here are the facts as well as we know: Poets of the Fall (POTF) are an independent rock band from Helsinki, Finland that was founded by Marko Saaresto and Olli Tukiainen in 2003. The members are Marko "Mark" Saaresto, (lead vocals/guitar), Olli Tukiainen (guitar), and Markus "Captain" Kaarlonen (producer/keyboards); during concerts, they are accompanied by a bassist, a rhythm guitarist and a drummer.
The Poets released the singles Late Goodbye and Lift before releasing their full-length debut album Signs of Life in Finland. The album was certified gold in May 2005[2] and platinum in April 2006. It topped the Finnish Top 40 chart in weeks 4 and 7 of 2005, and stayed on the list for more than a year (56 weeks), which makes it one of the most successful self-produced and self-distributed albums in the history of Finnish music.

The song Late Goodbye should be mentioned as the beginning of the band's popularity since it is featured in Max Payne 2 as the game's ending song, as well as a recurring theme in the game. The second single, Lift, is featured in the computer benchmarking program 3DMark 05 by Futuremark which has close ties with Remedy Entertainment, the developers of Max Payne 2.

The band has won several awards which include the 2004 Game Audio Network Guild (G.A.N.G.) Award in the "Best Original Vocal Song – Pop" category for Late Goodbye, "Best Finnish Newcomer" in YleX's "Best of 2004", "Newcomer of '05" during Musiikki & Media Events, two Emma Awards for "Best Newcomer of the Year" and "Best Debut Album of the Year" and also the "Best Finnish Act" at the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Poets of the Fall performed live for the first time ever outside Finland in Berlin during Popkomm 2005 and released Signs of Life in selected countries. The second album, Carnival of Rust, was released in Sweden in September 2006, in Australia, Russia and Ukraine in October 2006 and in Germany on April 20, 2007.

The Poets are currently working on their third album, which is supposed to be released in spring 2008. A new single called The Ultimate Fling will be released in Finland on February 6, 2008. The whole song can already be listened to on the band's official MySpace-website.

Sirs, if you are willing, please have Poets of the Fall as your guests, and let them show you what they can do. You can see on their website, www.poetsofthefall.com or www.myspace.com/poetsofthefall just how successful they have been so far, even though they are as yet unsigned by a major label. I encourage you to see for yourselves the sort of impact they have had in Finland and in other countries. I guarantee that they are also the kindest, most down-to-earth gentlemen you'll meet. Truly, you'd be doing the world a favor.
Sincerely,
The Fans

Or something like that. Then we'd make a list and everyone can type their name or something. I don't know, does it sound too desperate or cheesy? Any comments would be great! I'm going to post this in the Street Team thread, too.

Impressive letter you wrote there! :) I would like to shorten it down a bit, since Conan or his assistant will probably not like to read a too long letter. In other words, a short, witty letter will get their attention, I believe. ;)

So, here is my shorter version:

Quote:
To Mr. Conan O'Brien and Co,

Hello from several voices around the world! No, this isn't someone with Multiple Personality Disorder, though that would make for an interesting guest, wouldn't it? Nope, I'm just an ordinary American with some extraordinary friends from all over the world, and well, we need your help.

You have the power to bring this band to the attention of America and thus, the world.

All of their songs are in English and are unlike anything you've heard today, primarily because of the very different musical backgrounds of the core 3 'Poets'. They have released two albums to this date, and their first platinum selling album "Signs of Life" is one of the most successful self-produced and self-distributed albums in the history of Finnish music. The band has won several awards which include the 2004 Game Audio Network Guild Award in the "Best Original Vocal Song – Pop", two Finnish Grammys, aka. 'Emma Awards' for "Best Newcomer of the Year" and "Best Debut Album of the Year" and the "Best Finnish Act" at the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards.

So, if you are willing, please have Poets of the Fall as your musical guests. You can visit their websites, www.poetsofthefall.com or www.myspace.com/poetsofthefall to hear just how inspiring music they make. If you do bring them to play on your show, then truly, you'd be doing the world a favor.

Sincerely,
The Fans

Sorry for deleting some of your excellent introduction (don't take it personally, I loved the longer version :) ), but assuming they have only 30 seconds to read each letter they get, the shortened intro should get them hooked enough to read the rest of the letter. ;)

(Update 1: Conan's lastname and the unsigned thingy removed.)

Please get Conan's surname right - it's O'Brien not O'Brian.

Hmmm, do we have to mention the "yet unsigned by a major label"? To me, it INSTANTLY gives the impression that we're talking about some demo band with a few songs and a few covers and no experience or success whatsoever :)

Otherwise, good stuff. I was thinking about the length, tho, too, and if they really have time to read all this.

And if I got to decide, I'd instantly rule out an online petition... I don't see that as effective as a gorgeous package of some kind, delivered to the staff, for example :) postcards, pictures, I dunno what?

So true, I thought I'd have to remove it just to see how it looks... :)

Sending in "real stuff" is probably much more effective than any online petition. Just look at the "Nuts for Jericho" project. ;) What could be a strategy is: someone sends in a letter, e.g. maybe one of the above, where we are giving a postcard storm warning. Then everybody else in the forums sends in a postcard saying something like "We vote for PoTF" , "We want PoTF!" or "Get PoTF on the show".
