Well, I'm not from Canada, but I'm just across the lake in the USA. (btw, thanks for sending all this icy weather our way, you limey kanuck !!!###@$%&&& lol)

I discovered Poets through Max Payne...I don't think I would've heard of them otherwise. Normally I listen to hardcore and classical. So, go figure. I guess they're just that good.

My latest thing is to open two browser windows to youtube, and have the band accompany itself in the round. It rocks; I just wish my pc's sound system was better.

I read the tour schedule, and the band is going to LA for some blues fest, but they might as well be in Finland, as LA is 3000 miles away from me. Too bad; I would love to see a show. *sigh* I wonder how much it would cost to book them for a private show? I have a milestone birthday coming up...

Well, anyways, hello from the USA!

I too reside in Calgary, Alberta and i also caught Poets of the Fall on the end credits of Max Payne 2.

First played the game shortly after it's initial release for PC so i guess i have been listening for a few years now.

Hello people from Canada!

I'm French and I have a dream: travelling from Montreal to Vancouver by train, it means 4 days and 4 nights on rails... What a trip!...

I am Canadian!

I won't say where I am in Canada, because I call my part of Canada "Moose Land." It used to be deer land, but moose have taken over.

It's not uncommon to see about 7 - 8 moose where I live...
The people in town even end up with them in their yard, and take pictures going "Oooh! Look at it, it's so cute!" And then I :| face at them and tell them that they are 2000 pound machines of deathly death. But they don't listen to the crazy farm girl. D:

Anywho, Hi. My name is 'Sie. :D

Hmm you must live in Northern Ontario or BC maybe? but then again there's Moose all over Canada in the most forested areas. I've definitely seen some of those in my days as well as deer, black bears, coyotes and cougars. Good ol' Canadian wildlife huh?

Hey guys!

So I figure this would be the best place to post this. As a huge fan of Poets of the Fall for the last few years and located nice and far away in Toronto, Canada I have decided to save up some money for a vacation. I want to head over the pond to Finland (or somewhere in Europe) to see POTF live in concert at least once in my life.

This is where the board comes in... I literally have no idea when and where I should do this. I'd like to assume the best shows to see would be in Helsinki or those areas but I figure asking here a few months in advance will help me plan the trip.

(I'm not just going for POTF but it's on my to see list)

Hey V1rax!

Really great your planning to go through a huge effort to see the awesome band live. Most of POTF gigs happen in Finland, cos that's where POTF is still best known. As an indie band they yet don't have enough contacts around Europe or the world to make a consistent, long tour. They do play some gigs outside Finland though.

I don't know what kinds of gigs you like... during fall, winter and pring they have club gigs. Bigger clubs are usually in our bigger towns, such as Helsinki, Turku, Tampere, Seinäjoki... Some clubs in the smaller towns have really small stages so you might not get the most energetic and "move-around the stage" performance, but what you may lack in that is compensated by a closeness to the stage and a more intimate mood. Tavastia club in Helsinki is famous place for gigs and some people see it as a "must". Many bands start their tours there right after their album release. Helsinki also offers a lot of

If you like bigger shows you should come to Finland during the summer, when POTF are touring the big open air festivals. You don't get so close up to the stage even on front row, but the stage show makes up for that more than enough. Finnish summer is unpredictable so you might get the concert in a cold rain or scorching sun. Or both during the one and same concert. :P Most open air concerts are very well accessible with public transportation and different possibilities for accommodation (from tent camping areas to decent hotels or renting your own cottage). To a couple of them, Ruisrock for example, you have to walk quite a bit though.

There are quite a few low-cost airlines flying from Finland to different locations in Europe, if you don't want to stay in Finland only.

As for Finnish sights, Helsinki has a lot to offer from historical to modern, so does Turku and many other of our towns as well.

If you need more help, just go ahead and ask. It would be best if you have some specific questions on your mind.

Oh, one more thing. This is a great thread for asking more questions and obtaining information.

Edit: OH, I see DSoL was faster than I am. I hope this isn't too repetitive of what she said. :)

Hey and welcome here!

before I can help you, I think I need to know a little more of what you want to do.
You say you are not only going to see POTF, so I assume you are planning a vacation in Europe? If so, is there a specific time you want/need to go there (for example it has to be sumer, because you can't get vacation any other time or in the winter, because skiing in Switzerland is also on your to do list)? Or can you plan your trip around a POTF concert?

If you are free to plan anything, the next question is for me is about your budget. I don't know about Canada, but from Germany flights to Finland are a lot more expensive in summer. Also it is easier to find an affordable hotel when it's not the main season (June, July, August).

If that is not an issue the basic question is: club gig or festival. With a festival you will get many other bands, but the tickets will be more expensive (between 40 and 80 € depending on where) and POTF will likely only play 45 minutes, at least in Finland. A club gig is more intimate, usually about 90 minutes long and cheaper (15 - 25 €), but usually starts later (anything before midnight can be considered early) and might sell out fast (at least in Helsinki or Tampere). That being said, festivals are in summer, club gigs in spring or fall - usually anyway.

The tricky part is that gigs sometimes get confirmed rather late. This year the spring gigs were announced early (i.e. in November/December), but for some summer gigs it was less than a months before the concert. It is sometimes difficult to get confirmation from all parties. So if you want to do some long term planning, you'll have to hope that something is announced early on. Word of warning: If a venue announces a gig, even if they sell tickets, it does not mean the concert will happen. Only if you find the date either on Live Nation's site or on POTF's official site it is confirmed. As of now, there is no telling what will happen in the fall or next year. There will be concerts for sure, but the when and where nobody knows yet. Currently, the summer our is being planned and announced.

Best shows? Well, that depends really. I have seen great shows at festivals and in clubs, in Helsinki as well as remote parts of Finland and in other countries too. Helsinki has an easy crowd (meaning they are appreciative of the band and the band does not have to work hard to get them into the show), but there's no guarantee that shows there will be the best. The advantage is, that Helsinki is easily accessible via plane. This also means that many foreigners come to the shows there. Finland has good public transport, so as long as a gig is in a big city, you can easily get there by train or bus (or plane).
Outside Finland I have seen amazing shows in Russia, Ukraine, Germany and Estonia. For Russia you'll need a visa and it's hard to get tickets from outside the country, so unless you have Russian friends to help you, it might be difficult. Also the gigs there always seem to be in winter. The other countries are easier, but there is no guarantee for concerts there. The Poets do not regularly play gigs anywhere but Finland and Russia. The advantage of concerts outside Finland is that you will understand what is being said on stage. In Finland, they will speak Finnish and unless you understand the language, you can only guess.
I have to add that there is no such thing as a bad Poets of the Fall concert. They are all great. Some, however, are amazing, magical and there is no telling in advance which it will be. It all depends on the mood, the audience, the spark that either is there or isn't. It also depends on how you personally feel that day and what you like. The one thing that is guaranteed though is that their concerts are highly addictive and whichever one you see it will be unforgettable.

So there, this is all I can tell you for now. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. (PM is fine too)

Sorry it took me a couple days I'm working 12 hour shifts

I haven't really planned it 100% I just know I want to hit Finland (for Poets of the fall) and Denmark (for the metal band Raunchy) at least once before both bands break up. They are both at the 5 CD mark and that means that sooner or later they will call it quits and I have the time and the money to do it now so why the heck not.

I'm not really worried about seeing anything I can see from my computer (for example I would never go to Paris to see the Eiffel tower). So I'll figure out the touristy stuff closer to finding out which shows to hit and when.

Now for the actual shows I'd much rather a club/bar/pub kind of setting. Big festivals look amazing but from my experience (U.S and Canada only) they tend to lack a atmosphere.

The actual trip will be between 1-2 weeks. Depends on what I get off for vacation in the fall and what I want to do. Money isn't an issue at moment because I can get as much overtime as I want over the summer. I'm determined to travel before I hit thirty so I have about 5 years to hit all the major countries I want to.

Don't worry about not replying right away. :) Looks like your best bet to wait until fall tour dates are announced and go from there. We'll be around to help you along then. :)

Oh and being a fan of two bands that have been around for well over 30 years, I am not worried about break-ups. ;)

Hey, I was just wondering if there was ever a possibility for a Canadian Tour? Or at least a North American Tour? I'd love it if PotF were my first concert, but I'm only 17 and still in school here in Canada, so I can't spend lots of money to fly to Europe, regardless of how awesome it is over there. I'm not asking for a tour just for me, or even right away, but perhaps the next touring season, is there a chance they could hop across the pond?

Hey, TheDutchin and welcome to POTF Forum. Poets of the Fall gets this question asked a lot. Not necessarily for a tour to Canada all the time, but fans everywhere would be happy if they visited their country and the band would be more than happy too if they could go anywhere at all. But...

For the almost 10 years that POTF has been making music, they have been an independent band with their own record label. This basically means two things: they don't have the money for extensive large scale marketing and they don't have extensive global music business connections either. Yet, anyway. They have been, and still are, slowly and surely building on both areas within their resources.

Even though Poets of the Fall has a rather large international fan base, it's still somewhat scattered and it seems there still are many countries where the fan base just isn't large enough to raise the interest of concert organizers. Even so, Poets of the Fall and their international booking agency are continually in talks for different concert possibilities in different countries. Sometimes these negotiations are fruitful but sometimes they fall through.

Right now I at least don't have any knowlege of plans for Canada or North America in general but you never know what great things can happen in the future. If a possibility for a concert there becomes available, I'm sure the guys would love to come over and give you one heck of a show.

In the mean while, if you want you could join the USA Street Team (Canada doesn't have a street team yet, but a few Canadians have already joined the US one) and participate in different campaigns to spread awareness of Poets of the Fall. Here's the US Street Team on FaceBook:
http://www.facebook.com/groups/POTFUSAStreetTeam/
You can ask them what's going on right now and they'll let you in on everything and help you for sure, they're a fun, friendly bunch!
