The big three:

1. Deep Purple
2. King Crimson
3. Dream Theater

After them it's mainly the whole 70s. They made some great music back then. But I haven't got anything against modern music, it just has to be very good. :)

I love the Whitlams. Tim Freedman has such an awesome voice. I also love MGF (their lead singer Pinky Beecroft co-wrote No Aphrodisiac with Freedman). And Midnight Oil (Peter Garrett). And Powderfinger (Bernard Fanning). And Magic Dirt (Adalita). Aussie bands are the greatest.

Hm, that's a tough one. But...Linkin Park just seems to just top the rest. Plus they are very funny in person.

An Aussie online buddy of mine got me listening to JJJ, which is much better than any American station I can find. So I started listening to it all the time. That was my introduction to Aussie music. Now, I'm obsessed with a ton of Aussie bands, but since I live in the wrong hemisphere, I can't go to their concerts and it's hard to get their new albums. :(
Which is similar to the situation I'm in since I discovered the Poets. I must be a sucker for pain . . .
