I have seen it yesterday. It's just bad - I was really pesimistic about it. And still, it wasn't enough. They changed names, they changed plot. they changed everything. :x All the time I hoped that they will at least use some of the game quotes, at least Lupino could. But no. They have completely destroyed it. Completely. :evil:

@Luke Morgan-Rowe: I believe in you. And I can't wait until I see your movie. :) I keep all fingers crossed, good luck! :wink: Crush them!!

At least there's one positive fact - they haven't done a horrible videogame based on a Max Payne movie :lol: ..........yet :?

So I have finally seen it.
Well, lack of resemblance to the original game aside (let's be honest, no videogame movie has any), it was not really that bad.
Fairly decent, actually, if it wasn't for the last 1/2hour or so, when it went way downhill. And their attempt at bullet-time was very... unimpressive.
Also, if you would pardon my language: WHAT THE FUCK WAS LUDACRIS DOING IN THAT MOVIE?

Ok, so now I saw it. :D I'm not as sceptic as most of you guys seem to be, but then again I am one of few who didn't get introduced to POTF through the games. I've only played the beginnings of them both and seen maybe a thousand trailers on the Tube. 8)

I think it was actually a decent movie :lol: Very stylistic. And I like Mona :wink:

The new Max Payne movie was probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I figured it wasn't going to be good but I wanted to see it since I'm a big fan of the game. After watching it I was pretty pissed off. The acting, the plot, the characters and the action scenes were all terrible. To be fair, The only cool part lasted 2 seconds when he charged the guys across the parking garage shooting from the dark. By no means does it redeem the film.

I just recently watched Payback: Straight Up - the directors cut since Max Payne was based on the Parker character created by Donald Westlake aka Richard Stark. I hadn't seen Payback in so long and thought this version was pretty good. If they added the strings soundtrack from the game along with a Sin City comic style, it would've been Max Payne. Mel Gibson is Max Payne. 8)

Recently watched it. All connections to the game were useless, Max is turned to looser (what is he doing in Cold Case unit, he was working undercover). Second: who the hell is Natasha? What happened to Lisa? Like all Russian chicks are named Natasha. Ludacris was acting well, but Jim Bravura was not the good guy, he was neutral. I miss all the monologues, and mostly the line "I would laugh if I remembered how". The trailer was showing much more better view. I preffer watching Sin City again instead of this crap.

It seems everyone who idolize the games are disappointed in the movie :D I guess I am lucky not to have played through the games yet, so I have nothing to compare it with. I actually liked it. I've watched it many times :) I can imagine playing the games now will just make the games turn out even better :D

Sure! Fans are fans. I've watched the movie first and was toooo much disappointed with it. Then played both games and fell in love with them (though shooters are not my favorite ones). I watched it one more time with original voices and it's not so disgusting you know ^_^ Just an ordinary movie...
I like two screenings. Silent Hill isn't as genius as the game but still a good movie. And GunGrave is much greater than it's original.

As a fan I was actually impressed with the movie, I love MP and usually quote Max an offle lot lolz, you may know that. But I respected that they made their own thing and they stayed closer to the storyline from the game than most game movies, I mean it was pretty far off but closer than Resident Evil.

I'd have to say the best though is Silent Hill that guy stuck close to the game and evoked the feeling and style of the game. If we want good game movies that stick true lets try and corrupt Hollywood into having Zack Snyder (Watchman & 300) or Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) direct them, they kept their films completely close to the graphic novels on which they were based, and did their own thing as well while not pissing off fans.

Haha, "Bioshock" film! I doubt it will be any good, but let's wait and see. I can't wait to see Prince of Persia film, which is coming out in 2010. I think we will be seeing more and more video game movies in coming years (if the world doesn't end in 2012, ofc :|).

I totally agree. I also didn't like Mark Weilburg as Max Payne. Weilburg.

Ok, I know I'm raising this thread from the dead. This film was on the Danish tv last night so I thought I'd see it (being a gargantuan Max Payne (game) fan as I am) :roll:

Anyway, now that I have played the game I am not able to judge this film without comparing it to the game, so I will: This movie had so little in common with the original game that I could hardly see the connection! And why did they choose to kill practically everything noir about it?
They completely changed Max Payne's personality. He went from being a very charismatic person in the game to a man without personality, even though his family had been killed. WTF?
I also lack understanding what the point in this film was. What morale, if any, did it have?
Finally I have a billion questions I would like to get solved: Why was Mona Russian? Why was Jim Bravura African American? And why was he from internal affairs? Why was Mona even in the film? Her character had virtually no influence on the plotline. etc etc etc.
Sorry, I can only say if you're a fan of the games, don't watch it. If you aren't a fan: Play the games and don't waste time on this film.
Sorry, that's all I had to say...

Unfortunately, the weak connection to the game is it's least flaw. If we look at it as completely original film, it still sucks. Poor plot, dumb story, all action sequences are replaced by some boring cliches just to fill the movie's lenght. We don't need Uwe Boll to have a disaster result...

This thread always makes me laugh! :D

Game does not equal movie and the other way around......impossible.

@kngkilgore

Weilburg :shock: :D Nice name, but I don't know any actor by that name

@DMCMaster550 & @beccali

Without reading all the way down, seriously, we are the only ones who liked the Max Payne movie? :shock: :D

Mark Wahlberg is an excellent actor and the cinematography was dark with the light snow.....I mean charismatic when your wife and child are murdered? Ok then..... :?

I LOVE this movie, own it, have seen it many times, Mark rocks!

I'm sure I said something like that before, but since it was re-secreted...... :wink:

@Skyjumper05

Mel Gibson? OMG.....not seriously right? Mel is a washed up actor who is starring in a movie with a beaver hand puppet....yeah.....right on......

Liam Neeson and the movie Taken so overshadow Payback, I forgot Payback existed.

Max Payne = Mark Wahlberg, and that is from someone who never ever played the game or even knew it existed until I heard about it after seeing the movie. And I wouldn't ever judge a game, which is a totally different format which one can play for days, weeks, months to a two hour movie.

I like my appp games, i.e. Death Rally, those are the best!

i didnt see this movie as a max payne movie. it was really really good action movie in its own way. maybe i felt this way because i didnt get my hopes up in the first place and expected that the story line will be altered.

Nope, even as a standalone story, it sucks...

I don't want to sound like a b*tch, but the talking in this movie was way much bigger than action. Summary, all the action can be seen in the trailer.

There's really not much to like about the movie at all, but having that said when i watched it for the first time, seeing SOME nods to the game was a welcomed surprise... and it got a few smiles out of me, mostly the crazies in the subway scene which definitely rang similar to the classic Roscoe Street Station level, of course though the biggest surprise was that the movie turned out to be a pile of junk that i wasted my money on and Mark Wahlberg was a horrible choice for Payne.

Have to admit that i loved that one scene where Max takes the "Valkyr" and goes ape for a while, the visuals and aesthetics during that part were especially great.

Those are the only positive things i can say.
