I finished this yesterday:

Image

Shades of Grey: the road to High Saffron, by Jasper Fforde.

Even though the cover doesn't make it clear that the novel is the first part of a trilogy and I expected it to be a full story, I really enjoyed being taken into a different world set centuries after a mysterious apocalypse. I hope the next books will explain what really happened to the world, as the protagonists barely know that there used to be another civilisation and have no clue as to what happened to them (us).

Anna Quindlen - Blessings (2002)
I enjoyed it. It weaves so many people's stories through memories, other people's perspectives, touches issues of what's the right thing to do and how some things simply were done decades ago. There's a family secret uncovered as well, but it's all told in such an undramatic and understated way that makes it more fascinating than just "oooh, drama". It's a sad novel in some ways, but you end up feeling that the people in it aren't sorry they experienced the things they did, even though the ending wasn't happy in all cases.
Also, there is an interesting misunderstanding that takes place twice.

I recommend.

Just rereading Philip Pullman's Northern Lights Trilogy. Have finished The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife, just reading The Amber Spyglass. These books are awesome.

Also: Smoke and Mirrors - a short story collection by Neil Gaiman. I enjoyed that very much too.

Few days ago I've finished My friend Flicka. I first read it when I was like 13 years old. I wanted to reread it again a long time ago but never had the time for it. I really liked it when I was a young girl (it's about horses - so of course I enjoyed reading it :P).
But it's kind of fascinating how my imaginations differ from the ones I had almost 6 years ago while reading the book. As a child I imagined so much more than I do now.

Terry Pratchett's "The Colour of Magic".

Got me hooked, and now I have the whole Discworld series to look forward to read/watch *.*
Given the number of books it has, I think I have something to do for the rest of lifetime :D

I like Dan Brown books except for the last one. That was absolutely terrible. Predictable, thin plot and a bad guy that spent far to much of the word count naked and getting his junk described by Brown. lol.

Im reading a book about Greek and Roman mythology at the moment and a book on the Third Riech. (history student)

I finished "A Great and Terrible Beauty" by Libba Bray couple weeks ago. I got it from the library just because during the summer I wanted to read something light. I liked that book even though I prefer reading heavy and symbolic books.

The Shining by Stephen King.

He is incredibly talented, since he actually makes the reader get scared.

I actually just started re-reading Raymond E. Feist's "Riftwar Cycle" series. Since I have the first 30 books in it, it should keep me busy for a while......

Read it a few months back. It was as if I had found Douglas Adams' long lost identical twin. Do read 'The Truth', it was one entertaining read indeed!

Just finished reading "The Wizard and the Glass" - the fourth book of the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. This series is amazing, such breath-taking scope of imagination... King's a true master at weaving tales. Will move on to The Wolves of Calla once my exams are over.

Thanks for recommendation :) Now I'm reading the second book (The Light Fantastic), and more books from Discworld are on my "to read" list  Too bad they're not popular here

If you guys liked even a little bit, The Stand by Stephen King, you should read Swan Song by Robert McCammon. It's classic end of the world, good versus evil and even better than The Stand. Just as long too, lol. I pick it up every couple years and reread it. It's the first book that actually made me cheer and cry :') It's my fav book of all time.

I'm a sucker for Fantasy Books though and my favourite book ever is "The Redemption of Althalus" by David and Leigh Eddings

The Shack-William P. Young

Absolutely brilliant. One of the best novel's I've ever read. For anyone who has doubts about God and wonders why He seems to allow evil actions to occur. Keep an open mind. It will make you think.

I just finished a funny german book and started yesterday with "50 shades of grey" after everyone seems to have already read it. I read the first 150 sites but it doesn´t blow me away so far. I ordered "Games of thrones" on amazon yesterday, that will be next!
