"Pain is just weakness leaving your body."

"If you'd done something differently, you wouldn't be you. It would be someone else looking back, asking a different set of questions."

And my all-time favorite:

"It's fear that gives men wings."

Those are the things that keep me going on those hard days :)

I also use the phrase "Leap of Faith" at every opportunity :)

I guess one of mine is "Nothing in this world that's worth having comes easy."
Heard it in the TV series Scrubs.

Found a nice one today:

Here is one of my fav sayings... and its so true :

"If you dont like me, thats your problem, not mine!"

The reasoning behind it, I'm not going to change. So accept me for who I am.

The lines from Save Me that touched me really:

Save me
You're the only out I see
And I need your love the most when I least deserve it

 Do you guys actually say the things you posted IN PUBLIC???

The "sayings" that I mostly use in my life is "lol", "eleos" (which literally means "mercy", but it's used to express debelief/shock) and "Whatever" (oti na nai).

And yes, my "favourite" "sayings" are in greeklish... O_o

Amaranthos, the sayings that are referred to mean expressions or so that are in full sentences. Like, moral stories that can be applied on every day situations. Like "early bird catches the worm" :D

I think if there was a thread with the most commonly used single words, the contents would be slightly less wise.

I found some new ones today, But before you read them... know I don't mean to be mean or anything or be... oh I don't know the word... anyway these are my new ones....

1) When the rich wage war, it's the poor that die.

2) What's life without pain? - The scares and ink are only pieces of the puzzle.

Here are a few more:

When you're at the end of your rope, tie a knot and swing!

Sometimes you have to take the leap, and build your wings on the way down.

Whatever you are, be a good one. -A. Lincoln

Never place a period where God has placed a comma.

And last, but not least, Desiderata, by Max Erhmann, which is too long to be a proper saying, but I can't pick it apart, either. Here's the whole thing:

Desiderata

Mum says:

Life is like a two way ladder. You take one step up, another step, then another step. Sometimes you're on a roll and take many steps in a row. Other times you'll be knocked down two steps, or more. Sometimes, every time you step up, you fall down one step right after. The closer you get to the top, the harder you'll have to work; but just maybe, one day, without you even noticing, you will have taken all those steps, and maybe, just maybe, even that last final step to take you on top of the ladder. That is where it all begins. That's where it's downhill all the way from there.

A very close friend of mine asked, what if you start from the bottom then?

And then answered her own question.

There'll be no way left to go but up.

Up one step, down one... up two steps, down one... up two steps, down two steps... eventually you'll be there. :)

Gives me hope, this one.

More from Max Erhmann. He's quickly becoming one of my favorite poets.

A Prayer

Let me do my work each day; and if the darkened hours of despair
overcome me, may I not forget the strength that comforted me
in the desolation of other times.

May I still remember the bright hours that found me walking over
the silent hills of my childhood, or dreaming on the margin of a quiet
river, when a light glowed within me, and I promised my early God
to have courage amid the tempests of the changing years.

Spare me from bitterness and from the sharp passions of unguarded
moments. May I not forget that poverty and riches are of the spirit.
Though the world knows me not, may my thoughts and actions be
such as shall keep me friendly with myself.

Lift up my eyes from the earth, and let me not forget the uses of the
stars. Forbid that I should judge others lest I condemn myself.
Let me not follow the clamor of the world, but walk calmly in my
path.

Give me a few friends who will love me for what I am; and keep ever
burning before my vagrant steps the kindly light of hope.

And though age and infirmity overtake me, and I come not within
sight of the castle of my dreams, teach me still to be thankful for
life, and for time's olden memories that are good and sweet; and
may the evening's twilight find me gentle still.

Max Ehrmann
1872-1945

How could I say it perfectly... :|

"It doesn´t matter what you do now, but in the long run you have to love it or you better stop and find something else to do. and keep on going towards what you want, someday and somehow you will get there."

not very short one :P not my idea, I just put it on "paper".

and let´s see. I have a box where I put sayings that hit me. Can´t remember them all. Just a few from the box:

"human is wise as long as he looks for wisdom; when he believes that he has found it, he´s a fool. "
- Jewish saying from Talmud

"It´s weird, that you start to think a person after he has died or gone away."
-S.E Hinton

"You will never forget the moments that you don´t remember."

"It seems to me that we are not here for getting answers."
-Gaétan Sovoy

"the only difference between me and a crazy is that I´m not crazy."
-Salvador Dali
