Time for a little fundraiser.
Our good friend Jacky, is saving up for rent, so she won't be able to join us for a fun week in Helsinki in August. UNLESS you darlings help her out! We're a small group who are supposed to meet in Finland, and some of us have already bought tickets, and I am especially looking forward to meeting Jacky, since she's such a great friend to me.

A few of these people coming over have already made fun plans, and Jackie (TheArtist) has been a BIG PART of it all, helping out with the accomodations and such as much as it's been possible for her all the way over the other side of the Atlantic.. it would be shame if she couldn't make it herself now!!!

I'm sure she doesn't like this idea since she's a humble and hardworking and independent person, but what can she do about it? NUFFIN I say, mwahhahaa

Okay, I'm back to myself, now! Thanks so much to those who have already donated. I really don't know what to say, except I am deeply honored, whether or not this goal is met. I feel somewhat guilty, because I know things are tight everywhere, not just over here. But I am very grateful for the generosity of my friends. I only hope I can return the favor in kind one day, again, whether or not I go.

For those who are wondering what the hey is going on, I'll tell you the story, warts and all.

Yes, there's a small group of us meeting each other in Finland, many for the first time. This would be the 2nd time I'd visit Europe, period, so I was looking forward to meeting the people I chat with on a daily basis.

Life threw me a few curveballs, as it is wont to do. The reason I myself cannot pay at this time is because right now I'm only working 14 hours a week. No, that's not enough to pay bills, so I am also getting unemployment insurance. It helps, but just barely. As the saying goes, I'm making it by the skin of my teeth! Now, I'm currently a licensed security guard. Here's the kicker of it all: I do have a chance to get some work at a few places, but if I do, I'm moving out in the fall.

Yes, as old as I am (32) I've had to live with the "Parental Units" as it were. Times are tough, and you gotta do what you gotta do. I really wish I had a better explanation, but I don't. Maybe that's not so strange for some of you over there, but it is here. (Many "leave the nest" as soon as they turn 18.) I was paying rent until my hours were severely chopped when my last assignment ended. Right now, this is the only "permanent" position I have. Now that it's summertime, I will be getting a few more assignments here and there. What I'm looking for is something full-time and permanent. (Health insurance would be nice, too. Haven't had that in years.)

A friend of mine also went through some tough times (lost a parent) and is just now getting back on her feet. She's going to rent a place in the fall and invited me to be her roommate. It's a nice place, great neighborhood, etc. The rent will be very reasonable, but it all hinges on whether or not I get either of these jobs. Or, my current employer will send me to a new permanent, full-time position.

Since June is about half over already, I was pretty sure I wasn't going to Europe this year, and so told Mariamus what was going on. You can be sure to blame her and Tiia for this ridiculously wonderful idea, because there's no way I would ever dare to ask for such a thing!! I'm not going to beg, but I'm not going to refuse, either. Whatever you feel in your heart to be good and right, do it. And thanks.

Now serious... For now I can send you only my spiritual support. Nobody's life is easy, so I'm glad that there are good people here willing to help you. Don't feel in debt, you always cheers us up, so it is time somebody else to cheer you up. All thumbs up!

I really, really want to meet with Jackie too! I was so heartbroken when I heard she couldn't join us. But now there's a possibility that she can. And it was always my belief that the greatest thing you can do is reach out your hand and help.

(The fact that I lost all the photos from the last forum session and desperately want to make up for it next time has nothing to do with it. )

Well, I already live in Finland, but distance to Helsinki is about 700km and traveling inside Finland is very very expensive, even with the student discount I'm getting.

Yeah, I could walk but I'm needed in Oulu too. So.. Oh well, I'm heading to Southern Finland (Turku) at the end of July if everything goes as planned so if I'm lucky I might be able to continue my stay at Southern Finland with few days and visit Helsinki too.
