I haven't seen a question like this. (Unless I'm really blind ) Many of you have cool/freaky/scary pictures displayed in 20 kilobytes next to your name and I want to ask you, what does it mean? Where is it from?


As for me, I got my avatar picture from the Old Gods of Asgard website from their 1978 album, In the Valley of My Shadow which contains one of my favorite songs, "Children of the Elder God"

My avatar is a picture of a sign in Freehold, New Jersey.

Freehold is the city where Bruce Springsteen grew up and in 1999 I went there and took a look around. Nice little city. Took the picture of the sign, have had it as my avatar for about ten years now in all forums I'm on.

Well my avatar is just stolen from a famous album of a famous band

Mine is just an angry(scary) looking kitten. I put it on in a different fan forum when I was angry and I liked it so I use in a few places. I actually find it cute now anyway, not scary at all...not at all...

Well, I was attending a conference about the relation between roleplaying games and creative writing, and wearing one of my trademark hats (I did my latest book signing without a hat and pretty much everyone asked me why I didn't have one, so I guess that's part of my public image now).
A few days later, I found out that a photographer had taken this lovely picture, focusing on the hat and leaving the rest in an artistic blur.
I asked for permission to use it as an avatar, permission was granted, and voilà!

My avatar represents the feeling I'm always having after submitting a forum post.

Mine is with me almost from the beginning of "being online" just like the nickname so I'm really used to it. It comes from the happy times when I was called an angel by my friend. And I like how it is kinda melancholic.

My avatar should represent my hobby: playing the guitar. And since this is a forum about music I think it fits. ^^

My avatar is one of a whole set of pics. They are a gift from one of my friends. Most of them with different kinds of flowers, all pics show extracts of a book called 'The Zohar' written in Hebrew.

My pic is of a comic book concept that I've been working on for some time. He has a gene needle that comes out of his mask like a mosquito and tests whether the subject is human or a goth virus victim. Also can be used as a close combat weapon - like an alien tongue strike.

I have loved Garfield since I discovered him as a kid. He and I are very much alike.

Well it's a drawing of some creature I drew on a white board. One boring day, after the last lecture before Christmas vacation few years ago, there was this empty class room with an unattended white board with all these nice little markers. Oh, and throw one bored student doing some extra work for a project in the mix.


I love Garfield too! Me and my dad used to be huge fans when I was little.

I love fairies. I usually use them, or something else I love.

My avatar represents a story Nikki Sixx told in his first book "The Heroin Diaries - A Year In The Life of A Shattered Rockstar".. He was sitting in his chamber in the bed room doing drugs and getting psychotic and paranoid..

Mine is a drawing of the guitarist Buckethead, taken from the inner liner sleeve of the album A Real Diamond in the Rough.
Buckethead is my favourite guitarist, and he's probably the most skilled musician I've ever seen. If you can name a style to be played on guitar, he's done it/is capable of it/has released an album in that vein.

My avatar shows my little (yet big) furry love, my cat named Rysik.
He's sitting on the top of an armchair and behind him is a window, so thanks to play of lights, he looks so dark and mysterious ^^

Mine is Judge Dredd. An iconic future law man who protects Mega City One a giant city on the East Coast of America.

It all stems from the British weekly science fiction comic '2000AD' which has been running since 1977 and Dredd has been in it constantly since issue 2.
I'm a fan and have on my laptop 1699 issues.

I saw him play when he was in Guns N Roses and he was excellent.

Mine is from the famous game "Assassin's Creed". One of the best games ever created in my opinion.
