Hi my dear friends.
first of all , i wanna give a warm thanks to everyone who visited me in the forums. :D
I made this topic cos' i wanna discuss about POTF's finest video , CARNIVAL OF RUST.
I think it's the best musicvideo ever! I really mean it , it contains a large amount of meanings.

Someone Touches your heart , Revives you , 'n finally leaves you without any attention.
And why she leaves you ? 'cos She had found herself a new toy , 'cos she had been tricked by worthless , but shiny Pelf , presented by devils masquerading as angels... AND LEAVES HER REAL LOVER ALONE...
This is a fate... A fact ... we are all losing ourselves in this bare night...

I've watched it several times now and I'm still trying to interpret its meaning, but I think it's such a magnificant video that you can't comprehend it's meaning, you can only acknowledge it.

But I do like your version Lonewolf-Mauser. The girl in the mask gets tempted by the carnival and dosen't hear the cries of the puppet (marko)...or something like that!

I unfortunately don't really get this video.

The only thing I have is that perhaps it signifies our obsession with Gimmicks and how we are never patient enough to stick around and see if what we just did will turn into something that will make us happy.

The women in the mask pays attention to Marko only for a brief time, then is drawn away by gimmicks and shiny things, forgetting him even though it could have been the best thing for her.

It's been said before me though, but I figured I should add something or another.

Heyyy... Why are you trying to interpretate everything with words? Do you feel love to anyone? And you don't try to describe it with a simple text, do you? So PoTF are Feeliings, not Words or Chords. You've seen CoR video. You felt it fully. So, you already have an answer. Looking for words may be your step back. Don't do that, just keep on loving and feeling.

actually, this lyric tell me everything about video ;

D' you breath the name of your saviour in your hour of need,
n' taste the blame if the flavor should remind you of greed,
Of implication, insinuation and ill will, till' you cannot lie still,
In all this turmoil, before red cape and foil come closing in for a kill

Come feed the rain
Cos I'm thirsty for your love dancing underneath the skies of lust

Yeah feed the rain
Cos without your love my life ain't nothing but this carnival of rust

It's all a game, avoiding failure, when true colors will bleed
All in the name of misbehavior and the things we don't need
I lust for after no disaster can touch us anymore
And more than ever, I hope to never fall, where enough is not the same it was before

Come feed the rain...

Don't walk away, don't walk away, oh, when the world is burning
Don't walk away, don't walk away, oh, when the heart is yearning

Old topic, I know.

I was just watching the COR video for the 1,000th time and it suddenly hit me. Although the song and video are up to personal interpretations, I noticed the imagery in the video supports a new "possibility".

The girl gives her last amount of money for a change to win a doll. She wins it, and leaves.

"Don't walk away, when the world is burning. Don't walk away when the heart is yearning."

Along with some other key lines in the lyrics and video, I wonder if the video is talking about the woman wanting a child, and the man not being able to give one to her, so she attempts to get it from somewhere else.

A far fetched idea, I know, but I was curious.

Well it's nice to notice that so many of you are really watching this magnificant video... :)

I haven't had time to really watch it, but if I quickly think about the video, the beginner of this topic is right...So am I completely wrong or did the topic beginner (I can't remember his/her nic) mean that when someone thouches your heart, it is that situation on the video when someone starts the machine in which Marko is singing as a some kind of "doll"? Touches the machine as in touches your heart? Does anyone understand me now?

I do understand it, Stella and yes, that is what Lonewolf (the thread-starter) said.

Meaning of the video ? Huh... I think we must understand both the song AND the video to understand this meaning.

At first, the title "Carnival of Rust" : I think that there is a link with the sentence "Come feed the rain" 'cause metal + water = rust ^^ This "rain" may be a sort of pain of the woman and other feelings ("...should remind you of greed...")
For the mask, I have no idea...
The woman's big sweet is decorate with a spiral. That spiral may mean an endless trouble, confusion, despair ("in all this turmoil...") between the two people. (Mark and the woman)
But that's all I could understand...

So, if it's her pain, why should she feed it? Or do I get the meaning of the word "feed" wrong?

She feed it uncousciously, I think. She suffer, so the rain grows and I think the rain can be itself a cause of its pain (because of love too). It's an endless circle.

I took a look at the song's lyrics. I haven't got a possibility to see the actual video now but I'd like to comment the lyrics.

When the man (who is obviously Marko) sings that

"Come feed the rain
Cos I'm thirsty for your love dancing underneath the skies of lust

Yeah feed the rain
Cos without your love my life ain't nothing but this carnival of rust"

So if undestand these lyrics at all, Marko is saying that he needs the woman's love although the love makes him even more rusty than he already is. The woman's love makes him go through pain (which never heals) but it is worth it? Or did I just say the obvious things? I don't know, this interpreting is complex...

"I lust for after no disaster can touch us anymore"

So he comprehends the pain which the love is causing but still wants it...

Although I'm technical person, who looks for logical explanations EVERYWHERE, I don't think that CoR should be taken like 'rust = metal + water'....it's unpoetical imho :D No offense of course, just my opinion :)

This video makes me think Tim Burton: the color-palate might be largely black and white, but not much else is. There aren't any easy answers.

This video gives ME the big impression that it's just selected snippets from a longer story.

First - I love it.

For me it's "album video"... in it I see almost all CoR songs...In the video we can see fragments from and for: Roses, Delicious, Dawn (The Moon), All the Way 4U, Fire, King Of Fools (She leaves him... so... she makes him like king of fools... he say:"I worry that I can't give you what you need"), Desire, Gravity (Gravity in love), Sorry Go 'Round (at the end all she can say is sorry but...), MTiaBD("the road won't set The Woman free). Can you understand what I'm writing about?

I think... about the lyric:
She is the savior."if the flavor should remind" - when he see her... he lose control in inevitability... he fall in "greed" and "lust"...I think he wants from her to "feed the rain"... to save him somehow from the "carnival of rust" and from the masquerade...

I personally think that Carnival of Rust is really big in meaning and it has a lot more beautiful meanings in itself(as many other ppl have described it) but about other album songs..yes i think it has these refers too :)

One of my all time fav. songs ,it's perfect in every ascpect in my opinion.
The videoclip in my mind and eyes might mean this:
The fortune-teller: is locked up in a tinny room and unable to escape meaning he can tell the future but he cannot get out and try to change it so he is left to suffer as he watches others go on by
The 2 playing cello: might mean that music can unite 2 people, cand be made perfect and armonios, but at some point it may be turned into profit, loosing somewhat it's soul

The girl: she is wearing a gas mask, to show a certain protection from the cruel and deadly world around, meaning purity, virginity, childhood maybe. she is confused and lost in the things around her and seeks beauty and perfection (the doll)posibly an avatar of her, "breaking for freedom" if needed, breaking everything to get there in the end getting lost and alone
The end: when the girl leaves everything comes to a complete stop, motionless, lifeless, as if the girl it self, could give life

Here is the opinion of someone on youtube.

Here's my interpretation of the video:

The girl, is trapped in this "carnival" which is a prison of sorts, possible created within her own psyche. Anyway, she's in this place and she discovers the puppet, she gives it her money and it comes to life, instantly in love with her, however something else catches her eye, the man with the doll (both the puppet and the man with the doll are played by Marko to symbolise the fact that they're complete opposites) She goes to the man with the doll, coaxed by his charms and wins the doll while the puppet yearns for her attention and her love. She leaves the carnival having got what she wants, but as she leaves she begins to drop the doll in regret, not only for ignoring the puppet, but for leaving altogether and not acknowledging the puppets adoration.

Oh, and for those of you saying that the gas mask is meant to represent something, I disagree. I think the gas mask is there to alienate the girl and prevent her from developing a character as if she developed a character, people would instantly think that the video is about her and not the themes in the song, in all likely hood she is not the main subject of this video, the puppet is.

I think that's true. And in fact I have a feeling that someone (Marko in some interview maybe???) has said that thing as a fact. I'm not really sure, but for some reason I have that kind of memory... :?

True enough. You should not try to interpretate every single thing which seems seldom to you. There would be no surprise, no question anymore and therefore the song (or whatever you are trying to explain) would become shallow with nothing to reveal.
