I.R.I. = Indie Radio Invasion (unofficial abbreviation)

So, lately we've been witnessing Poets of the Fall retweets about a song of theirs being played on a new radio station (mostly in the US). Almost every time we hear about it they are precisely hitting the charts as the most played or the most popular or something like that. Of course the stations are still indie web radios and such but you have to start somewhere, right? Nevertheless there's been a tremendous success for a wide range of songs.

What do you think about this slight trend that's been going on? Can it become an invasion? Does this indicate any rise in popularity or reputation? Is there a chance that this might give birth to adaptive radiation of Poets' music and so help the band distribute their marketing to new locations? Even though it all sounds like delusional dreamer's desperate droppings (=DDDD) I defy skepticism and dare you to see this in a different light, not always in a blue one.

Indie cred for an indie crew? Could it work anyhow to make it in bigger circles?

YOUR opinion down below, please......

I think the invasion has just begun... the whole World is about to wake up and realize what real music means... :)

I think it's taken a lot of work from the US Street Team (you guys are amazing!) to get things where they are now with internet radios. And, if I got it right, even a "real" mainstream radio.

It's difficult to predict what things go truly viral, so that it reaches millions of people and sticks. But keep in mind that these online radios were around and had listeners before the US Street Teams got POTF "trending" in them by requesting and voting. I'd say it's already an invasion, and it can only get bigger from here. :)

Yes. The amount of USA fans seems to have grown a lot within the last two years. And I don't see why this should stop: the US Street Team is still going strong. They keep gaining new members, they keep trying to find ways to break to mainstream radios as well, in addition to the online ones.

I have no idea. To make marketing in the US sensible, they would need to get their CD distribution working as well. There isn't much point in marketing something if all you can tell to your potential buyers is that "but it's not available here, you have to buy an expensive import with overseas shipping costs". And getting a distribution deal in the US... I don't think it's the easiest thing to do, and it takes a lot of work (and possibly a lot of money too) to get there.

Why ever not? There's always the possibility of partnering up with different professionals in different countries, while keeping the artistic independence.

Thanks for the kind words about the US street Team DSOL! We really want Poets here and are trying our best!
As for the online stations, we call this our internet station takeover :P and while it takes some time and persistence to find the right stations and then get them to play Poets, we have a lot of fun doing it! And you should see our excitement when we get to add a new station to our list!
And yes, there was one song that we know of played on an FM mainstream in Texas and we are working on a good possibility for one in Utah as well. We've also got some team members "championing" their local fm stations in hopes to get them added there as well.
In my opinion, I think there is rise in popularity in the US. I see more and more people from US posting on Poets FB wall as well! I am seeing stations starting to decide to give Indie bands a chance and this is good!
I also think this is just the beginning and Poets presence in the states will only grow! I find it very exciting!

Yes, thank you DSoL! :)

I just want to add my 2 cents. Our "internet station takeover" as we playfully refer to it :P also seems to have somewhat of a cumulative effect, not merely making an impact on one individual station at a time. For example, when we did a second round of e-mails to a new batch of stations, it seemed like there was more recognition than we received in the first batch -- comments along the lines of "oh, yes, I've seen a number of other Live 365 stations play this band", which gives more motivation for them to give Poets a shot. It seems on some level the word is getting around, and maybe this makes new stations feel more comfortable about playing them once they see others are doing so. And when we can throw in "oh, btw, this particular song was #1 several weeks in a row on a station very similar to yours", that definitely helps. ;)

Like you said VesQ, "you have to start somewhere". It's still probably a long haul, but I really believe this could be at least part of a very good foundation, from which we will see other good things happen for a band that so greatly deserves it. :)
