By the way, speaking about angels and demons, have you guys noticed that the main concept of the band is based on the unity of opposites: good and bad, poets and the fall. You can see it in the lyrics, there are a lot of images created with the help of antithesis: "Given and Denied", "NENB", "King of Fools", light-night, "...get up after you fall...", thoughtless-kind, caring-blind, devil-smile, as sb has already mentioned, and so on. So I'm pretty sure that ToT is all about that.

Btw, I"m a new here and been watching the forum for some period of time, so I can say VERY nice to meet the most polite and tolerant fans. :)

^^what a very nice and thoughtful first post. :) welcome here

To get back to the topic: I find that I have no expectations right now and no idea what the album will be about. I just like the title and I'll wait to be surprised. :)

Thanx for welcoming.
Can't wait for the new album as well, but sure it's gonna be amazing as everything PotF do. :)

@arktos

Welcome here :)

And thank you for sharing your thoughts about the "opposites". They are interesting and you are right when you say, they appear in many songs. Actually we are surrounded by good and bad, sad and happy etc. in our life. That is the reason for me that I love the songs and lyrics so much because they accompany me through my life and comfort me. Not that I'm a very sad person ... mostly happy :) but everyone has personal ups and downs ... so good to know where to turn to.

Totally agree. And I can say that the best thing is that the good side always prevales in the songs. They always raise positive emotions, even when there are some sadness and somtimes despair in them. Very good heeling for a turtured soul. :)

Welcome arktos. Thanks for sparking such good point to talk about. Not only opposites, but also oxymorons are there in the lyrics. Well, I've read an interview with Marko in which he said that "the Fall" refers to the fall of Adam and Eve (Was it geniune? :? ); so I believe the songs mostly must be about negetive sides of our lives, our mistakes and so on. A blatant example is the song Shallow. But they are poets and I guess they're somehow surrealistic ones because they always show the twinkle of light in mostly bridge parts in their songs, like LUTS, for example.

yep, he said that here:

Quote:
the “fall” as in the biblical term, when Adam and Eve in the paradise took a bite of the apple – that was the Fall. The way I perceive the name is like we’re the architects of our own demise, the script writers of destruction, whatever metaphor you want to use here.

I also recall many interviews where Marko speaks about these 'oppsites', how that's a recurrent thing in the songs :)

I was also thinking of the many "falls" theatrical tragedies have.......as it's been said before, in Shakespeare's plays, each "hero" or "anti-hero" has a fatal flaw which leads to his downfall. (I believe Hamlet to be the ultimate tragedy, since he really did have a reason to go mental with passion). Architects of their own demise, they seem to create their own fate without much thought or with blind passion.
Aristotle's idea of a hero suffering from what he called hamatria. We have had discussions about that term before. I believe everyone has a fatal flaw, maybe some just don't see it or recognize it.....

Illusion & Dream:

So can you name your demon?
Understand its scheming
I raise my glass and say "here's to you"
Can you chase your demon?
Or will it take your freedom?
I raise my class and say "here's to you"

[Off-topic: if anyone likes to read about Aristotle and such things, here's a great site, not a wikipedia site http://www2.cnr.edu/home/bmcmanus/poetics.html]

[Off-topic: Inception was brilliant....so many puzzles, or just for some fun, dependent on what you like. I like movies that are not only entertaining, but fun to think about afterwards, and this one is a great one! No, not the best movie in the world maybe, but damn near close!)

Now of to watch Inception for the _____ time!

Lisa, thank you for the link on Aristotle. Very interesting indeed.

As Marko said in today's interview, SoL, CoR and ToT will be a trilogy

Yes, it was also called "The original sin" (remember "Passion colours everything"), and the mentioned idea of hamatria, whatever you call that, the point is, I agree, that we create our life ourselves, sometimes not the best way we desire due to that original sin.
And oxymorons are the great part of the lyrics as well (E. g. "dying to live"). :)

Turning to the topic of trilogy, I wonder what is in common in these 3 albums except the titles with "of"??

P.S. Liked the Inception too, but judging by my own experience I think the dreams in the movie are not surreal enough as they sometimes can be. But some things are really true, esp. controlled dreams when you realize that you are in them and "a dream inside a dream". :)

Possibly also a part of a trilogy, just a different one. RR, TT and ??.
Like Marko said in an interview this Thursday:

God this "trilogy" thing is confusing. To complete the SOL/COR they obviously needed to revisit pre-2007 material while they claimed to write all new songs for the upcoming one, from scratch. Today they're in different mindset, it must be nothing more than marketing trick to mention older releases.
(I'm a terrible fan i know, don't bother mentioning it to me)

Perhaps i think Marko, not to speak on his behalf of course but he more or less means that you can look at and accept the album as a part of a trilogy if you'd like but maybe that's not the complete intention and possibly not what they were aiming for when they first started recording the album.

It probably just works as a trilogy rather than it is supposed to be part of one.

It's not like they do concept records with elaborate and concrete story that you follow from record to record, i am sure it's just similar themes and of course the title of the record fits with previous formulas.

Of course POTF always has loads of meaning and purpose in their albums I'm not discrediting that at all but maybe in this situation it's not exactly supposed to be taken that it's been the plan all along to do it this way.

Almost reminds me of Steven Seagal and how most of his movie titles are three words, you could say most of his films fit in the same league that way and might not have been intentional at first until a trend was emerging.

I dunno i could be completely wrong just what I'm thinking at the moment.

Naah, can't be anything like that. It must be an evil marketing trick to sell a million or so more albums.

Maybe just for the balance I'll say:

I love the idea of trilogies and I will be very happy if we get something to complete RR and TT sometime in the next years :D For now I'm patiently counting the days to ToT.

Thinking about the album names and lyrics Temple of Thought gives me an image of a destination of a journey. A person first takes a train of thought, then gets lost in it. The train stops in front of a silent wall, the highest wall. The wall is surrounding the temple and the person along with the "passengers" gets off and there it is, the temple, the answer or the question, behind the curtains, by the sea etc............

These are just random scenes that bounce back and forth when I dive into the PotF universe, I get images, ideas, totally fiction, just interesting, PotF is a key part of my Temple of Thought...........
