Sorry, I don't get that at all and given Poets financial resources, this step might be contra-productive (Making vinyls is rather expensive, isn't it ? And given their rather small amount of fans, who knows if there are enough vinyl-lovers among them)
Heh... can't you for once just assume that maybe the guys _sometimes_ know what they are doing? First of all, you can stop worrying about their money. Pressing vinyls is very inexpensive, and the small risk involved isn't even fully on the band. Only a very limited batch will be manufactured, and it will easily pay itself back.
Believe me or not, but one of _the_ most frequently asked questions during the band's career has been if there will be vinyl versions of their albums. Well, there you have the first one. And of course there's already someone complaining.
Many Finnish bands (and probably others too) have lately released vinyl versions of their albums (just look at the first post in this topic). The idea is not to make lots of money with it, but instead to offer something special to the fans. There will be a larger campaign in January where several Finnish shops will have special vinyl booths with vinyls from several artists, and Poets were asked if they want to be a part of it. Why not?
As for why people buy and listen to vinyls... it's a combination of many factors. Some think vinyl has better sound (don't know about that, but it certainly has a different sound). It has some nostalgia in it for some people. Playing it is a certain kind of ritual, very different from playing a CD or MP3. The covers look much cooler since they are much bigger. Many people don't even intend to play them - they just think of them as valuable collector's items.
On a side-note: Admin, have you or the band ever considered adding a download-service to the webshop that offers buying the albums in a lossless format like FLAC or APE ? That would be cool IMO, given Itunes and Amazon only offer MP3s.
Yes, we have, and there will be a new webshop at some point in the future that offers lossless downloads!
