thank you for being here Oskari, welcome :)
I think the video is very meaningful, and it adds something more to the song.. I like how it is 'built': with the reality, the dream and the memory going on parallel through the vid, and I love the final scene, where it's like all of that comes together.

hmm, I remember, how wonder was one of my friend, when she read a translation of Clevermind. She thought that it was very happy song.
I think, there it is - Potf's lyrics. You think that it's happy, but it's not.

I'd say it's mostly because the melody in those PotF-songs is pretty uplifting, so it fools people. And then there are the ones like me, to whom the melody and the what the lyrics sound like are more important than what they actually say. I know Clevermind isn't the happiest song in the world, I've listened to the lyrics that much :P, but there's still a bitter-sweet happiness in it for me, mainly because of the melody. Happiness, like everything else in life, isn't black and white, and it's a thought that gives me hope.

Thanks, Darkness of heart, you've explained better than I could. :)

I'd also like to say thanks to the director of the video taking time for us. I really appreciate it.

I know about it, but as for me, I never thought Clevermind and DWA are happy songs... I donno why, but I hear sad tunes in Marko's voice... Or it's my own feelings... Yeah, it's my stupid habbit to take all songs to heart...   And that's why I always cry while listening. *no, I'm not "always-crying-person"* But I'cannot stop crying while I'm listening such songs... *takes a poster with a pointer on her and word 'emo'*

Wow, that's exactly what I interpreted from the video... Amazing. Thanks so much! :)

Some quick answers -

aquaf0x is indeed my YouTube nick. The video was shot on the Red One camera with an Angenieux 7-81mm zoom lens that gives a beautiful flare. The place we shot Marko singing was on the top of the Cirrus building in Vuosaari, Helsinki (http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cirrus_%28tornitalo%29). No special effects were used in any of the singing sequences - the sky is real, the light is real, and it's REALLY cold, -24 degrees celsius.

I'm happy to answer any other questions!

Oskari Sipola

Oskari, the music video was beautiful! The cinematography and visuals were amazing. One question, though...why did you choose to only put Marko in the video and not the whole band like their other music videos? Just curious :)

At least one reason for this was that the band was so busy with other things (like finishing the album) that there simply wasn't enough time to gather them all for a video shoot. Often, artistic decisions are based on cruel real world facts and limitations, but that just makes things interesting. :) I'm sure Oskari can shed more light on this.

Wow, a director of a music video here. Amazing.

Those word you've used to describe the music video are just about the same words I had in my mind after I saw it for the very first time. Awsome. I'm speechless. You've managed to make a music video that reflects what the lyrics are all about. :D

Now that the first single is out, which I absolutely just love, I can't wait until the rest comes. PotF. <3

Thanks so much for your interpretation, Oskari, and welcome! :D Did you storyboard the shots, or was the process more organic ("let's do this and see what happens!") or both?

Thank you all for your kind words! I'll relay your comments to our unbelievably talented cinematographer, Joonas Pulkkanen.

About Eternal Sunshine - must be a coincidence, I've seen the film a long time ago but it wasn't on my mind in any way when we were making this. Now that you mentioned it, there are some similarities!

The place we shot the running is a beach in Helsinki called Kallahti, close to the tower (the beach can actually be seen in the background in some of the shots of Marko singing).

The decision to use just Marko was mostly about his role as a "narrator" in the story. There were also some scheduling problems with the whole band, as we shot this video in a very tight schedule. I'm sure the whole band will be back in their next video.

We did a very detailed plan and a shot list, but did not draw storyboards, using much more of a "run-and-gun" method in getting the feeling of being inside this man's head. So, both, I guess.

Well, if I'm in a very emo mood it's sad for me too  And it's not stupid to take all songs to heart, I do it with the ones I like. Gives my hyperactive mind something else to think about :P

And my thanks for the director as well for taking the time to explain art to us.
....Vuosaari....I wonder if I could see my house if I went through the whole video frame by frame :P

Today finally I laid my hands on the single. Every time the feeling is awesome! And this "Yeah, Right" part at the end of the copyrights is hilarious! Lyrics font is cool, but kinda hard to read. Speaking of that, will it be online anytime soon?
Somebody slap me...

As someone said back there, anything can be faked nowadays.
Why not "keying" and putting the band there?

Just kidding...
Although it's not totally out of question.

First: "Keying" requires time, which the video didn't had (it was quick release)
Second: Posing for video and other stuff requires again time.
Third: Nice and simple. It's better that way...

They could work on a remastered version, like CoR, and add the rest of the band through "keying".
Would be at least funny to see 2 different versions, but the viewers could choose their favorite between them.

We already have movies that have different endings on theaters and DVDs, why not having 2 videoclips with a "slight" difference?

Just a suggestion they could think about.

agreed, there wouldn't be room for the rest of the band in a remastered version. Well, at least we can look forward to seeing them in the next video, if there is one...

Hahaha!
In fact, there's plenty of places, it's just a matter of using the imagination.
They could be anywhere: snow, room, top of buildings... :P

But hey, people, you're taking me too seriously...
Relax, huh? I'm just joking, the video's already great! :D

Hopefully by saying thank you to Oskari for answering my question, I'll be getting this poor thread back on topic, hehe! :P

Oskari, your "run-and-gun" method seems to have worked just right. Just as the human mind can instantly flit back and forth on various subjects (from past to present, fantasy to reality) the video reflects that well. Would you ever like the opportunity, a different story perhaps, to try something like this again, only stretching it further, to make it more chaotic?

(And can I create a longer sentence?)

Just listened DWA on a Romanian local radio station :o :o In the beginning of a song, Marko says something like: ''Hi, this is Marko from Poets of the Fall''. Then he mentions our radio station. But somehow his voice sounded a bit weird, as if it wasn't really him who uttered the words. Admin, could you tell me, please, if it was really Marko who recorded this greeting for our Romanian city station? (btw, the station is called CityFM)

Yep, that is really Marko, the band recorded a station ID (like it is called) for them. Of course I don't know what the radio station has done to his voice, turned it into Mickey Mouse or something... :D
