Yes, here it is! Some new stuff we have:
  • new phpBB3 software and everything it offers
  • new layout that should go a little better with the rest of the site
  • you can now upload avatar images to our server
  • new chatbox with channels and private messages - just click on the Chat link in the top menu and start chattin' (note that even if your profile is hidden in the forum, you will be visible in the chat)
  • there's a textbox called "POTF Collection" in your profile - if you like, you can list there all POTF-related items you own
  • you can see your new private messages on the main site too, above the latest topics - and if you hover your mouse over a topic, you'll see more info about it
  • if you enter your birthday in your profile (year is not necessary :)), you will be congratulated on the forum frontpage!
  • there are also lots of new features for us admins & moderators
As usual, it's perfectly possible if not probable you'll encounter some oddities, or come up with questions or suggestions. In that case, feel free to PM me, or just reply to this thread.

Enjoy!

Personally, I really like the new design. The graphical part is really nice, no bugs for now.
The new features php3 brings are really nice, most noticeable is the improved voting system (just from a first look). Also I like the new POTF collection option in the profile, friend and foe system, everything else...
I only dislike that the left pane is looking too wider.

My first request goes for a moth emoticon ;) (kinda stupid, huh?)
And another: Suggestions when posting new topic (searching if that already exists, take a look at ubuntuforums.org)
(wow, I just noticed that we all lost lots of weight, Admin lost 700p, Danny - 1600p)

I likes it a lot ^^

one thing: on the 'old' forum, when you clicked a link, it opened in a new window/tab.. now it opens in the same screen as the forum which is, in my opinion, a bit annoying!

Thanks, didn't realize that myself. Will fix...

It's probably because of (really) old posts that were automatically removed at some point, but not reflected in postcounts, until now. In any case, all auto-prunings are now disabled, so old posts should not disapper any more. I'll enable it only if it starts to show a significant hit in the server performance.

The new design looks great.
I like all the new profile options and the new font color selector. Oh and the profile overview of where I posted most is nice. (Spam, Spam, Ham and Spam :D )
Anything else I have yet to check out.

The first thing I noticed was that the signature size was decreased (mine was too big and had to be changed). I like it though - and it looks as if the avatar size limit is enforced now too.

For now I find it a bit hard to see whether there are new posts on the active topics, but I#m sure I'll get used to it.

The icons are still a little "under construction".. I tried to make the flames look different enough, but I agree they could probably be better. Working on it. :)

I think the flames do look different enough, maybe it's mostly for those threads without the flames (the... not-most-popular-threads :? ) that it's harder to see "at first glance" the difference between new-posts and no-new-posts.

oh, well, what I mostly wanted to write here was: new design looks great 8)
and I'm curious about new functions... me likes the new style a lot :D

I really like this style, too! :) It's pretty cool that we can see our messages from the main site. 8) Gonna take me a while to get used to it, but love it already. <3

I need a bigger screen... Or minimizing glasses! Can currently read 1 post at a time.

The layout is nice though!

OK, the difference between "read" and "unread" icons should be much clearer now! You might have to force-refresh or clear your cache to make sure you get the new icons.

Those are search engine spiders that crawl our site. I don't know if it's useful for anyone (except) me to see them, I'll consider removing that feature.

It took some time, but I finally found something to complain about \o/

I got two things that affect the layout on my comp (Firefox 3, fullscreen on a 1600x1200 screen)
Don't know if they have been mentioned already, though

The first one is regarding posts that contain pictures which are wider than the expected post width: The text and everything run over the right 'border' of the forum area, making the parts of text that go that far pretty hard to read.
There's an example right [url=http://www.poetsofthefall.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1467&start=1080
]here[/url], halfway down the page
EDIT: When such a post is in the list of a user's last posts, it destroys the layoout for all the posts in the list (Example)

The other one is minor and so far only appeared in one Thread:
This one. (surprising, huh?) Here it's just the page numbers that don't get along with the layout. Must be because they're over 1000.

Oh, and regarding answering to this announcement: That only works when you didn't open it in the 'Announcements' section (unless you're an admin or moderator, I guess)

And before I forget it: Good work with the conversion and the new layout and... stuff :D

That is actually fixed for new posts - the forum won't let you post pictures that are too wide. But naturally that doesn't fix older posts. I don't think there's anything we can do layout-wise, maybe I could make some sort of script that converts too big images in old posts into links, or something.. (or someone could just manually do that... :P )

Heh, true, I constantly forget there are some maniacs on this forum that have nothing else to do in life than post here.. Thanks, I'll fix that! EDIT: Fixed!

Since we started complaining...

When the username or the user's location is too long without blanks, it totally destroys the order of the border between the author name and the post; like this one here.

It used to slide it over to the next line before, if I remember correctly... :?

Sorry, could not resist and since I have nothing to complain about...

True, I'll see if I can come up with some magic HTML to fix situations like that. These are traditionally difficult to handle (users typing too long strings without whitespaces). Anyway, I manually added some spaces to this user's location, should be OK now.
Alev wrote:

Nope, it did exactly the same thing in the old forum, or actually worse - it broke the column in every single post on that page, not just the user's own post. It just wasn't that noticeable in the dynamic-width layout. What is good in this layout is that even if someone manages to break it, if only affects the post in question, not others.

I was thinking about something along the lines of css-editing, setting the maximum width of images to a certain amount... but I haven't thought this through :)
Someone doing this manually? Hmmm, wonder who would be cazy enough for that...

Actually, that could work - somehow I never thougt about using CSS's maximum size attributes for this purpose. I'll try it..

And ta-da, the good ol' forum smilies now live and prosper in the chat too!

one last question: is it possible to show more of the last chat messages when you enter the chat? in the old chat you could see about 500 last messages, and now its only 30 or so of them
